What do you think would have happened if the actual Rafal didn't die and the characters from the main series and a little before appeared?
🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐🛐
Anyway.
So.
Uhm.
Ok no wait.
Oh brother.
Listen, it wouldn't be perfect, far from it, but I think with his character development, he would have been far better than Rhian. While I was ready Fall I could already tell from the first few pages alone that the Rafal from here wasn't the same as the one from the main series. This caused me to contemplate and think about what could have happened for him to change so drastically and cruelly. You heard me. I didn't see Rafal as cruel. Cry about it(I'm joking).
Don't get me wrong, he is morally grey all the way, but the way he acted towards Rhian, his students, his efforts, how he acted with Hook, with the people he had tighter/closer relations to. It called out, not as anti-social or messy, but rather hesitation, self-isolation, and cold autonomy like someone afraid of having it done to them, so they do it to others. Stay in that tower of his to look down on everyone, make sure no one can take him by surprise. To have the high ground. But having the high ground means you forget what it feels like to walk on the ground and soft grass.
I focus on how somebody acts with the people they hold close/dear to them. Sure how you act with strangers matters to, to a point, but how much can it truly matter in the end depending on your own conscious?
I feel like him being Fala, going through the whole mess with Hook, the war, and so on, he would have been more... Merciful. Hard discipline sure, but not through some distant ice arrows but rather a closer approach.
I think he would have been a much better School Master than he had been previously and than Rhian ended up being. For once I doubt he would have been as bitter, maybe disappointed and wounded for some time over the fact that Rhian tried to AHEM him. If Rhian ended up dying I think he would have ended up getting over it after some time, maybe get melancholic after the loss, maybe try and find not a replacement for Rhian but rather a balance for himself outside of his own being, maybe a magical companion to last a few centuries (a dragon, unicorn, another sorcerer, etc), but even fleeting ones like a normal human, or animal or so on would work because now he knew the sensitivity of life and he knew how to cherish one.
If Rhian were alive, though, I'd absolutely see him trying to reconcile with him even if, for safety reasons, he'd be securely put away. I feel like if Rhian didn't die and Rafal also didn't die at the bare minimum the Storian would have taken away his powers, obviously, but he wouldn't immediately turn to dust and die, rather he'd live out his normal sorcerer life span before that happened. And I feel that by the time Rhian died of natural causes, Rafal would have grown enough to understand Rhian's importance in his life, in his journey, before coldly letting go of him forever, but not the memories and the lessons from it all.
I think, I dare say, he would have been great, maybe not the most guiding person, but he would have been so beautiful with it. Not perfect, but a story worth carrying out and savoring each of its drops until the barrel had been poured out dry.
Also OG Rafal and Sophie interactions would be ridiculous.
Like I cannot tell you how much he would have hated her guts. Not because she isn't a good villain or because she is bratty. No. He is beyond the superficial looks of good and evil given he lived the true meaning of those on his own skin. He would have just been pissed at the similarities he finds himself with some of the more peculiar evil students like Sophie. Sophie is a full on diva and so was Rhian. Rafal would have probably been sickened by the reminder of his long lost brother. Maybe even feel for Agatha who suffered like a dog for Sophie's sake and then having her best friend try and rob her of herself after she had barely discovered it.
I feel like Sophie would get a proper earful from OG Rafal, creepie, eerie, promising proper anguish besides just pitiful simple death.
He wouldn't be so shocked at the 'Oh look Agatha didn't kill Sophie even if they are nemesis' part. I think he'd just ponder on it with a dry, bitter smile, thinking how maybe if this and that, then he would still have a brother, but Rhian made his choices. At least he gets to witness somebody else live a better version of what his life could have amounted to.

I like your ask button design.
Second, your thoughts on Quests for Glory? I’ve heard some people did not like it, but generally, I don’t see much wrong with it (from my vague memory), aside from the fact that it disrupted the TLEA/supposed one and only trilogy ending (which I did like better than the OTK ending to be fair).
Thank youuuu. I initially wanted to do the moon cycle but then I realized the button was white and this whole thing right here didn't look that good: 🌑🌘🌗🌖🌕🌔🌓🌒
So yeah I went on a SGE theme.
Now after my brain took 10 seconds to process which book Quest of glory was again (I kid you not the order of remembering the books is the number and then title) let's see.
Everyone had a quest from what I recall, some more evident than others. I, honestly, loved it. Don't get me wrong. Book 3 being the sole ending could have done it I suppose, but everything that came after? The depth, the emotion, the twisting blade of agony and anguish in the gut of our protagonists? Oh that counts as a juicy stake.
That and the fact that the last 3 books gave me enough to go delulu about on Aric by doing analogies, ties and hypothesis in regards to his relation with Japeth (if you couldn't tell who my favourite antagonist was. It's a long story as to how he ended up my favourite 😅).
The way I'd scream, throw the book, close it, scream again(at one of the characters about being stupid).
SGE is the first book series I was ever smitten by, so to me there is nothing wrong with it because the roll coaster of emotion is exactly what brought me into it.
I can't tell you how I began to screech and cover my mouth over the fact that Chaddick died straight up in the first few pages like bro just past tensed like that 💀(I had not read the never ever handbook by then having read it AFTER I finished the series, cuz I didn't expect lore or foreshadowing to be in it, jokes on me, but if I would have read it then Chaddick's death wouldn't have impacted me as hard probably).
I agree on the ending of OTK being OOOF, but it seemed fitting. Our characters went through all that to learn that any fairy tale, and a good one at that especially, is STRUGGLE and TORTURE. So, to me, it was the perfect ending compared to book 3 where things just closed nicely, because they didn't. It was messy, it was ugly, ashes that had to be build back into something, but so many lose ends and secrets left behind.
The quest of glory gave us a beautiful mark on how our characters stepped out into the real world, after they went through some of their initiation process, and I loved it, every bit. I felt that the struggle that followed was necessary as well in order to have them prepared and ready for what it actually means to be responsible on the lives of so many others.
Over all, a solid one in the series, it pushed boundries, defied the norm of a fairy tale, whichever that norm may be, traditional gore brutal folklore or Disney.

I cant stand the sge movie just because of the fact that everyone is such a good bean.
Sophie? Not nearly bad enough. No murder. No heartbreaking revelation that she believes her best friend should be doomed to a life a crime, misery and loneliness because she is "ugly".
She's just a scared teenaged girl.
Agatha is SO PRETTY that it posses me off that EVERYONE in the movie is trying to convince us that she isn't. That actress is GORGEOUS wth are they talking about. Also, she's not nearly edgy enough. Not as snappy, or scary. She's just a slightly awkward, equally scared girl.
I will not talk about Tedros because they removed any reason as to why Agatha must hate Tedros. They deleted the sort of enemies to lovers thing.
Don't get me wrong, I think movie Tedros is such a darling, and every interaction he has with Agatha is so adorable that It makes the plot seem... Off? Why would he ever date Sophie when he was flirting a lot with Agatha, and he doesn't even think she's ugly?
It just doesn't make sense to meeeeeee

Hii!! Saw your post telling ppl to ask you stuff. So, here I am!
So, what are you thoughts about book 2? I feel like it just made things more confusing and weird, and that gender stuff was not explored enough – but most people seem to enjoy it because of the genderbend thing. Soo, what you think?? ;))
Thank youuuuuuuu.
Now let's get back to the question. I for once believe it was explored plenty enough. The 'rules' of SGE are vast, complex, and strange for each species of origin either by regnum or magical kingdom.
We were told gnomes, like Yuba, get to change their gender a lot, but not other species. That seems fair enough because each species must be unique in one way or another via magic if not biologically when we are talking about evolution instead of socially structured wise.
Sure it was a fun thing this whole gender bend thing, but we also saw it rather accurately in the long term as a side effect. In book 3 Sophie mentions her cravings which had been caused by the temporary transformation in book 2.
This goes to show that unlike gnomes who by default are built in with this type of magic in their veins, other species wouldn't be able to recover as fast from such a strong transition. Sure our students at SGE can turn to animals but they don't get to change their basic hormone input.
Maybe if they changed into animals where gender roles were switched for example spotted hyenas, there might have been a similar result, but they don't do that.
The whole gender bend thing brought a nice new discovery into the series. Sure we love the students and the school, but in a world full of magic with all of these great stories taking place from all these different cultures, all of a sudden having one singular writer(the storian) who doesn't make them up or uses cultural references, but rather observed the story that unfolds before him and writes it as it is, with the view of an outsider in every shape or form instead of a writer who has actually made the whole world, interaction and characters up linking them to a certain culture period, or so on; This gender bend part allowed us to see a glimpse of what the SGE world is like outside of school. It is much more complex and wider, allowing many more possibilities on a moral and ethical plane for certain actions. Or at least give certain possibilities.
Sure the gender bend was fun on a surface level. It was also good plot wise. But it left for implications deeper rooted for our better understanding of the SGE world as a whole that we rarely get to know more about given that the endless woods are exactly that, endless.
Overall it was a great part of the plot, relevant in all points, and helping readers prepare or expect even wilder things down the series.
Thank you again for your question! Have a good one!

Please draw Rafal x James or whatever you ship Rafal with!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry but I'm so bad at ship art 😭 It's not much. I'm sorry if it wasn't what you expected. And This is quite rushed but I hope it fulfills the soul. 🙏🏻
Ok i know James' trademark is his super cool blue blood but I keep forgetting that somehow lol. his shading is a bit duller.
You can interpret this as whatever you like.

No obligation for this art request at all!
A Midas art where he's older and like a king. Freedom for however that looks like in your head!

Tysm for the request!!
I was fighting demons while trying to properly shade Midas' curls and pick out a colour. Nonetheless I LOVED drawing this!! I also gave him dangling earrings bc I thought it would look cool.
Honestly we need more Midas content. He deserves some love 🙏🏻
The crown is so poorly drawn so here's one without a crown /j
