Even Dallas Hall takes part in "Wear Red Friday" at SMU.
If you didn't know, at @smudallas, we wear red every Friday throughout the school year to "symbolize our collective strength and serve as a vibrant display of Mustang pride."

Happy #NationalMascotDay!
---
A Gathering of Mascots During SMU Cheerleader Camp.
For some reason, this image always struck me as funny. I know it's not a great picture—taken with a film camera in 2003—but the mascots all hanging out together as if they are going to a party or something is just humorous to me.

Fall Colors at McFarlin
Hey, if you are in Dallas and need a mental break, go outside and look up.
With the sun coming out this past week, the autumn colors are on full display right now. Here are some of those fall colors on the SMU campus at McFarlin Memorial Auditorium.

Frances Anne Moody Hall
Dedicated on Friday, September 15, 2023, Frances Anne Moody Hall is the new home of the Moody School of Graduate and Advanced Studies at Southern Methodist University. Named after SMU trustee Frances Anne Moody-Dahlberg, the 44,000-square-foot building was part of the 2020 gift from the Moody Foundation. This landmark $100 million gift—the largest in SMU history—established the Moody School and will support research at the school for future "World Changers."

TEXAS STATE CAPITOL AT NIGHT.
The underground Capitol Extension Building was only completed 30 years ago, in 1993, and makes a beautiful addition to the Texas State Capitol Building. Born out of the 1980's Capitol's Master Plan, the State Preservation Board recommended building a new structure to alleviate overcrowding. The best part; the facility was to be underground so as not to impact the view of the Capital building. When it opened, the Capitol Extension added over 650,000 square feet for offices, conference rooms, and an Auditorium.

A PLEASURE PIER SUNSET.
Galveston's pleasure pier appears in silhouette by the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico during the last hours of 2022. The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier replaced the original Galveston's Pleasure Pier that stood in that location from 1943 until Hurricane Carla destroyed it in 1961. The site became the home of the over-the-water hotel USS Flagship Hotel in 1965 but was later rendered uninhabitable by Hurricane Ike in 2008. After the hotel's demolition in 2008, the space became available for Landry's Inc. to restore and develop the new entertainment complex. In the summer of 2012, Landry's opened the doors to the new $60 million Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, "reminiscent of the City Beautiful Movement's style, purpose and effect."

Holiday Lights at SMU
The holiday lights at Southern Methodist University illuminate the quad at dusk on the cool Dallas evening. In the last couple of years, this has genuinely branched out from Christmas Lights to holiday lights, as it is now also part of the Diwali Festival of Lights celebration at SMU.

Fall Colors in Dallas
With all the gloomy weather the past couple of days, it is hard to believe this was just week ago in Dallas.
This was the view last Sunday, December 4, 2022, from the Park City Club. A beautiful view of the spires of the Lovers Lane United Methodist Church standing out in an unusual burst of fall colors in Dallas, Texas.

The Modern Tomorrowland Entrance
The entrance to Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. While I prefer the older style, this one was erected just overnight in 2019. This more minimalist look goes well with the upcoming Tron ride. You could almost see those letters in glowing white light.

SMU’s Hillcrest Foundation Commons
If you sit at the Collins Center's Bobby B. Lyle Executive Lounge, you get an excellent view of the dramatic interior of the Hillcrest Foundation Commons. I used the chance to play around with some settings on my phone using the Moment Camera App to see what was possible.

Last week we finally got a break from the cold and had some bright sun and warm weather. Since it was such a beautiful day on Friday, several SMU students took advantage of it and enjoyed an afternoon on the Quad. Many of us working on campus wished we could join them—just a gorgeous day.
