My two friends, Chase and Yo-E, are pure magic. This video was originally conceived of to test Gold body paint for TOP OF THE GAME, but more than anything it was an excuse to work with Chase before he moved to Australia.

The bitter-sweetness of knowing Chase would be leaving us within a week brought out what I think is some of the most emotional and powerful stuff I’ve ever had the privilege to witness and shoot. The dancing, though un-choreographed, was something Chase & Yo-E had done 100 times together and this night felt particularly charged.

We shot for 1 hour then called it a night. I edited it in a week and decided not to share it until TOP OF THE GAME had been released. I’m making this link public because it usually causes me to well up with a range of emotions when I watch it. I’m hoping this video brings up as much emotion and joy for you as it does for me.

Afropunk just premiered my new music video for Ohene Cornelius TOP OF THE GAME. Music produced by Tev95 of 95labs. Words cannot describe how good it feels to release this music video into the world. It’s been a hell of a ride. I dedicate this video to the memory of my best friend Storm and one of the greatest mentors I ever had, Jeffrey Fisher. A journey like this one has to be a team effort. So much talent went into this video both in front of and behind the camera. Endless gratitude and love for the team of good friends who worked/twerked to bring this labor of love to life. We should all be really proud today. If you’re trying to reach the “TOP OF YOUR GAME” or if you just want some solid entertainment - watch this video!!! It’s for you. *And depending on what you do maybe it’s NSFW.

Gouaschevember Day 13 - VP William R. King. King served under Franklin Pierce for 45 days, until his death from TB. King became the only VP to be sworn in on foreign soil - he was visiting Havana for his health (apparently the closer you get to the equator, the more health there is) and was sworn in there in Cuba. King never actually presided over the Senate, barely making back to the states before succumbing to the disease. 

I’d honestly never heard of King until this little project. He was a representative in his native NC, then moved to Alabama and eventually elected as a Senator. His family became the largest slave owning family in AL at the time, based in a plantation near Selma. 

Many historians as well as his biographer maintain that King was actually gay, and carried on a long term relationship with the future president James Buchanan. He shared a boardinghouse with Buchanan for 10 years amidst rampant speculation, and they planned to run together in 1844.
