My mom passed away yesterday. She was my first friend and the source of my sensitivity. Her love was the foundation on which I built my life. I spent the last week by her side holding her hand. Now I’m surreally back in Europe and feel as if the solar system has lost a planet. Nothing on the ground has changed, but the gravity and orbitational pull of all things are different. I’ll pull through though. I’m not writing this in the hope of receiving condolences. I’m sharing this news on this impersonal platform because many of you, my friends, had the fortune to meet my mom and many of you, my friends, I haven’t nor will I see in the flesh for some time and I thought you should hear it from me and not through the grapevine. That being said, if you knew her personally or knew her vicariously through me, then please take a moment to think about her today. And in the future when you are faced with hardship, think about my mom and her humble positive fighter’s spirit and you can share her with me as your source of strength and love. The nurses from Mercy Hospice were so kind to her and my family. "Burnt Tongue" is out today! I've spent the last two years of my life writing, arranging, recording, and organizing the release of this record. It's intimate, honest, atmospheric, and I'm really proud of it. It'd mean a lot to me if you took the time to listen to it and/or order it on CD or the fancy marbled vinyl (link in bio). Of course, musicians always say that their newest record is the best one they’ve done so far, so I’m not even going to say it though my pride in this album says it without words. The new album, “Burnt Tongue” will be printed on orange marbled vinyl 🧡 Contrary to popular belief, the title did not come from eating too many scalding hot pizzas or drinking a million coffees while recording in Sicily. It comes from a story I tell in one of the songs on the album about a night in my teens when my friends and I tried to start a fire with wet driftwood on the banks of the Mississippi. We covered the wood in gas and, when I went to light it, the vapor ignited in my face.
