I do not remember much from playing octopath 2 and to be honest I remember it being kinda mid but I do remember there being a sidequest called “useless fruit” and that’s very funny to me because yeah same

ok so for the sake of everyone else kinda hoping that the switch 2 flops and seeing posts about switch 2 preorders selling out I’m just gonna put this here

the people preordering(aka core dedicated nintendo fans) and the average joe are two VERY different groups and the average person makes up a large portion of nintendo’s sales

tldr: stop dooming. I still doubt the switch 2 is going to do well

How I felt about the Nintendo direct earlier today

it really seems like the success from the switch left nintendo with an over-inflated ego and that’s why we’re getting 80 dollar games and a 450 dollar console but I think they forgot that the reason the switch was successful was because it was a genuinely good console that appealed to casual audiences, and part of appealing to casual audiences is being financially accessible. the switch 2 is likely to flop at least when compared to the switch because kids’ parents are going to see the price tag and not buy it, especially when people already have a harder time affording luxury items than ever before.

I think the best-case scenario would be similar to what happened with the 3DS where it started out selling like dogshit so they lowered the prices. worst case would be that they either don’t experience consequences and get even greedier or it flops SO bad it’s worse than the wii u and it actually sinks nintendo permanently this time(which is highly unlikely). because as much as we all shit on nintendo’s awful business practices I think most people still don’t want to have the company go down the shitter *entirely*, because they still make good games.

a point that comes up a lot in this discussion is the idea that due to inflation, games are actually still cheaper than they used to be, but this is something that only becomes true in theory, but not in practice. the world is in a very different place economically than it was in the past, prices for the cost of living have gone up yet wages haven’t. people are less and less able to afford things like games. in practice, they’re actually more difficult to afford than they’ve ever been.

idk I’m rambling but hopefully nintendo realizes it’s a dumb idea and scales back the pricing
