Happy pride month to my dad. When I came out as bi to him, this man googled what it ment, look at me and said "ohh. Yeah. You get that from me. You'd have far more siblings of I only shaged women." And went right back to his work emails.

love my classics teacher to death. but. we did hymn to demeter today and he explained demeter putting demophoon in the fire was just a way to showcase her power and completely unrelated to the abduction of persephone, more just put in as filler. and i dont believe that hes right. to me demeter's attempted immortalization of demophoon is an expression of grief for the loss of her daughter. persephone was abducted by hades, and demeter specifically states that putting him in the fire would spare him from death, thereby sparing him from hades realm. demophoon was not there as a pointless addition, but to emphasise how demeter's grief leads to her latching onto the first child she is given care over to work through her emotions about persephone. reducing this to filler just seems demeaning.

And it's a god-damned tragedy, not because it highlights the folly of man, that pride and ambition will be our downfall. Not because he was doomed by the narrative and was foolish and unwise and didn't listen. No. It's a fucking tragedy because his fucking kid died
I don't care that I am willfully misinterpreting this myth because fuck that. Icarus was a child. Daedalus had his issues, sure, but he didn't deserve to have his kid ripped away from him. Icarus didn't deserve to be struck down by the gods. They didn't deserve that. Nobody deserves that.
And then we as a society decided to blame the child
Nothing fills me with more rage and anger and frustration then the mistreatment of children

somehow got a 94% on my classics exam despite doing absolutely no study. teacher asked what study methods i used because i handed in absolutely zero of the 23 practice papers he gave us and i had to try and figure out how to make obsessing over the myths via tumblr seem normal

explain your gender in 10 words or less without using boring words like “male”, “female”, “nonbinary”, “masculine”, “feminine” or “androgynous”.

personally I believe that Zeus was straight up lying to Odysseus in the horse and the infant. why would Astyanax hunt down Odysseus and his family in particular? Why not Neoptolmeus or Agamemnon or any of the other kings? Sure, Odysseus made the horse, but Neo’s dad killed his father and then he himself either killed or enslaved the rest of his family. Taking revenge on Odysseus specifically doesn’t make as much sense (unless he went on a revenge spree).
I think Zeus just wanted to see if Odysseus would obey. Whether because a god commanded it or because he feared for his family, at the end of the day he killed a child because he MIGHT take revenge. He did what Zeus said. It’s Zeus’s way of toying with him.
it’s also why I like the parallel in Thunder Bringer. Zeus knows he will choose himself over innocents because he has already done so.

Andromache by Euripides would have been better if Hermione and Andromache stopped fighting and just beaten the shit out of Neoptolemus

Stop. Stop characterizing Chrysothemis as “Team Clytemnestra” she’s team family. She’s team “Electra, Orestes is alive!” She’s team “I don’t hate you that much” she’s team I don’t want anymore death and murder and I miss how things used to be. I love you both but I can’t kill our mother. Hatred can’t keep me alive.

I keep thinking about how actually devasting is must have been for Iphigenia, who all those years longed for her family, to find out both of her parents are dead, that her mother tried to kill her little brother, that said little brother killed their mother with the help of their sister, that her mother abused both of her sisters, and that her little brother is currently hunted by the furies. Like, it genuinely must have been a lot to take in
