I just wanted to pop in and say you may be single-handedly responsible for my headcanon of Finrod with green eyes and freckles, thank you for your work 🙏
hehe, thank you! my initial idea was simply that i haven’t seen that many arts of him with this exact combination (at the time) so i decided to draw him with green eyes and freckles but this choice surprisingly grew on me!! it’s always like this now ✨ and it also contributed a lot to my hc for silm elves in general, because ofc we have general descriptions for them in the books BUT in my head at least all of the house of finwë now have more or less established appearances

A/N: For my bestie @ilaneya who celebrates her birthday today 🥰🥰

The nights that usually happened to set upon the upper city of Piltover were blanketed with heavy fog rising above sea level, covering the horizon with a thick, milky layer of fog. The air was humid but not as moist as it would be during the day, where it would suffocate people to near death. Its source was the salty seawater, which did not help with feeling any better—the opposite. No amount of cooled drinks saved the poor bastards stuck for too long under the scorching sun, making their well-tailored clothes stick to their bodies with sweat, and their exposed skin was sometimes burned to crimson crisps that burned twice as bad due to the sea salt particles mixed in the water vapor present in the air.
If the facilities in lower Zaun city did not have AC air purifying systems, you could bet that folk dwelling there either came from desert-like planets or loved suffering; there was nothing in between. Many of them could be described in two words: beggarish and desperate. In accordance with the Piltover dwellers, of course.
One of such dwellers, Jayce Talis, a lesser aristocrat and recently expelled student of the Piltover Academy after the scandalous accident he was part of and to blame for, was sneaking around the back alleys behind the aforementioned Academy. He wiped the cold sweat off his forehead with the sleeve of his shirt and, for the umpteenth time, looked over his shoulder to affirm that no one was sitting on his tail while he was trying to do a questionable, in its legality, task.
Jayce reached the wall surrounding the Academy. He broke into a run and sprint-jumped over it, smoothly landing on the other side. Spending a moment in a half-squat, he swept around the nearby proximity with his sight, ensuring no one spotted his spectacular entrance.
Ensuring no one was nearby, he straightened and smoothed out his uniform. He began walking forward, mulling over where the Academy's dean could hide his research when he heard quiet clapping behind his back. He froze. “Phenomenal, Talis, really,” the voice said, “It's just a pity that you made me wait so long for you.”
“Viktor,” Jayce said, slowly turning around. “What are you doing here–”
“No time for chitchats. I know where the dean put your research.” Hobbling quickly on a crutch, he went past Jayce. “It's in his office, and you must be lucky tonight because you're in the presence of someone who knows how to get inside.”
“Did you steal a key to his office or what?” he asked, brow furrowed in worry for his friend, still following a step behind the other man, who, at his words, began rummaging in his jacket's pockets. Viktor took out an amateur-made ‘burglar’s necessity 2.0’ and showed it briefly to Jayce. “No, I made my own key,” he grinned at the taller man over his shoulder and went back to leading the way toward the dean's office wing.
Dodging academy guards stationed between the branches, they made it to the bureau building without further ado and slipped inside through the side doors. From there, they had to take two flights of stairs up, with a short break for Viktor's sake, but if somebody asked, it was Jayce who needed the break, thank you very much. By taking a sharp turn to the left, they arrived before their most significant challenge of the night—the locked door.
“Hold onto it,” Viktor murmured, showing his cane at Jayce, who grabbed the thing without a word, setting to observing his friend battle the accursed lock. Jayce was skeptical of the lockbreaker prototype Viktor had brandished before him. After looking down at the few minutes of struggle before him, he was about to speak up when he could scale up the wall when a mechanical click broke the silence of an empty hall. The lock gave out, and the doors slowly swung open before them. “Ha, didn't think it would work,” he heard Viktor speak as he stepped into the room. Jayce looked at the back of his head in disbelief. He was pretty used to his partner's unorthodox ways, but from time to time, Viktor succeeded at catching him off guard with one trick or another.
He shook his head clear and stepped inside the office, quietly closing the doors behind himself. He looked down at the cane he was still holding in his hands and, after a brief moment, decided to stick it against the doors for extra security in case their entrance was busted. Satisfied with his handiwork, he turned to see Viktor already bushing around various chests and drawers on one side of the room. “I'll take the other side,” he stated, moving towards his designated spot.
“That's a Good idea. Let me know if you find the paperwork,” Viktor said absentmindedly, focused on his task.
They worked for some time in silence, interrupted only by the rustle of turning pages or the tsk of opening and closing random drawers. Then Viktor spoke. “I think I found it. Take a look,” he said, an armful of briefcases full of research papers, slightly stumbling towards the desk at which Jayce was rummaging.
Viktor set the briefcases on the desk and sat at the top beside them, resting his legs while Jayce studied the documents. “Yes, that's my research,” Jayce confirmed, ensuring the other briefcases were mostly whole. He raised his head, and his full attention fell on Viktor. He grinned.
He stepped aside and trapped the petite man between his arms, resting his forehead against Viktor's. “With this, I can continue the research… We can continue the research. Together.” He whispered, his voice charged, full of emotions ready to spill over at any moment.
He glanced down at Viktor's lips, briefly hesitating, and pressed them together in a shallow imitation of a kiss. Viktor gasped against him, pressing his hands into Jayce's biceps, but surprisingly, he did not make Jayce back away. No, Viktor was pulling him closer, opening his lips by a notch, and tilting his head to the side, he deepened their kiss.
Jayce closed his eyes, deciding to take in the moment with every one of his senses but sight. Still leaning over the other man, he caressed his sides, and sticking his tongue out, he licked into Viktor's mouth, tasting him from inside out.
He tasted like mint pasta, and that disgusting licorice-flavored mouthwash Viktor insisted on using, yet with a trace of something sweet, something Jayce could only associate with no one else but the man kissing him back as hard and passionately as he could. He tasted like heaven on earth to Jayce, and honestly, he wouldn't mind drowning in it, simultaneously being inevitably, willingly, forced to spend an eternity surrounded by this taste.
Viktor grabbed him by his collar and roughly pulled against the material of his buttoned shirt, causing the buttons to give up their stitches and fly in every given direction, exposing Jayce's chest on which Viktor's icy, skeletal hands immediately rested.
Jayce's hands flew to Viktor's pants, beginning a fight with the blasted zipper, still trying to kiss him as much as he could despite the slight change in their position, when they both froze upon hearing a sound outside the dean's office. Jayce's eyes flew open.
A heavy booted kick sounded outside the doors, and Viktor's cane cracked under the pressure. They looked at each other in horror. “I have an excuse, don't worry,” Viktor whispered against another's lips, stealing one last kiss before his well-served cane gave way and the heavy doors flew open, banging and biting against the opposite wall.
The enraged dean of Piltover Academy flew into his office, wearing his night robes. “What is the meaning of this, Viktor?!” he shouted, red in the face, pointing accusingly at his assistant and glaring at the student he had banned off the academy grounds less than a week ago.
Viktor cleared his throat, looked around confused, and looked straight at the old man over Jayce's broad shoulder, saying, “Oh, I thought it was my bedroom?”
Jayce squeezed his eyes shut. It would be a long, long night for everyone. He might even get expelled from the same Academy twice. His, no, their poor luck.
