Steve Randle is so deeply mischaracterized and im so happy people are finally doing him justice

Like people always write him as the dumb one in the "dumb and dumber" duo trope people write platonic!stevepop (regular stevepop too but im talkin canon today and unfortunately they are not canon T-T) but in the actual book, Ponyboy who really does not like Steve tells the reader that he's smart

Like. A fourteen year old kid every single one of us knows is petty af, willingly saying someone he dislikes is pretty intelligent? Thats gotta say something about Steve

While platonic!stevepop is a dumb and dumber thing, its also "Blunt smart guy keeping sunshine happy cant sit still guy from doing stupid stuff" and I love it

Like he canonically drag races (I'm pretty sure anyway) and I never see anyone talk about it!

Give Steve his smarts back! Both street and books smarts. He does well in school!

Give Steve his bravery back! He literally Ran as fast as he could with BROKEN ribs to get to Dally

just give steve his character back other than being soda's friend and eating :(

Ya'll I'm tired of people writin Soda as a clueless idiot ESPECIALLY when someone likes him

Can we pls remember that Sodapop is Canonically extremely emotionally intelligent?

I'm sure he can be a clueless idiot sometimes, I mean c'mon, he's Sodapop Curtis but not NEARLY as much as people write him

Soda can tell exactly what's going on in people's heads just by watching their body language and facial expressions for a few minutes. he's just really good at that

Therefore, if someone likes him, HE 👏 CAN👏 TELL 👏

He knows what it looks like, he knows how people act when theyre crushin on someone,

But he's just too nice and sweet to say anything so he just pretends he's oblivious to not hurt anyone's feelings if he doesnt feel the same way

PTSD Dally trying to stay out of more trouble or at least being more careful when he does so he doesn't come across cops

PTSD Dally who drives the speed limit in town and actually pulls over when the cruisers need to get by

PTSD Dally that actually starts looking for a job to help pay Johnny's hospital bills

PTSD Dally that gets locked up for a week but doesn’t call Darry so he won't waste money on his bail

PTSD Dally that won't go to horse races anymore because they use a gun to set off the start

PTSD Dally that goes in the Curtis storm cellar whenever there’s fireworks because they sound too close

When Dally met Daisy, it was kind of an "Oh shit" moment

After he'd gotten out of jail for the whole "pulling a gun on the cops" thing, which darry did bail him out for, he just wanted a bit of normalcy since the incident with Johnny and Pony

So, he headed to the Dingo. Just to mess with waitresses and spot out pretty girls while he sipped on a chocolate milkshake

and a pretty girl he did find

At a table sat two girls

One facing away from him with brown hair tied back in braids,

and the other in a pretty white coat with a fluffy trim, earmuffs hanging off her neck and a bow in her pretty blonde hair.

He immediately felt the need to mess with her

So he strolled over to the table and the girls stopped their conversation

"I'm sorry to interrupt, this seat taken? No? Cool."

and he just plopped down beside the girl with the bow without even waiting for a response, and earning himself a good glare from the girl with the braids

He ignored it and immediately just started messing with them.

"Want a cigarette, baby?"

"N-no, I—"

"C'mon, give it a try. Not gonna give you cancer,"

or

"You've got some cute blush goin' on there, doll. That from the cold or from me?"

"I- um—"

"I wonder if you blush pretty pink like that in other places."

eventually the other girl starts to get mad and protective over her clearly shy friend

"Would you kindly leave us alone? I'm sure some other girls'd fall right all over you."

"Yeah, but I don’t want to though."

"Besides, the lady isn't pushing me away now is she. What was your name, doll?"

And she just swallowed and looked at him for the first time, her eyes all wide and nervous

"Um.. I-it was Daisy..."

And Dally just stops. He's never seen eyes so blue. And for the first time in a long time, Dallas Winston is at a loss for words.

The other girls just scoffs, and gets up, talking Daisy's hand and pulls her up to walk out

"C'mon Dais, let's go."

And when Dally gets up to follow, he gets a swift knee to the crown jewels.

But he doesn't mind.

Because he just can't get those pretty blue eyes put of his head.

And when he realizes he's falling hard already. He just runs his hand over his face with a quiet

"Fuck..."

Darrel Curtis may not show his love like Soda or Pony, but he shows it in other ways,

The way he checks Ponyboys math homework every night to make sure he gets a good grade on it.

The way he subconsciously takes the jelly out of the fridge in the morning bc Soda likes it on his eggs.

The way he always makes sure Johnny has a full stomach even if it means missing a meal himself.

The way he leaves the door unlocked in case Steve's dad kicks him out and he needs a place to sleep.

The way he switches the beer bottles for a glass of water when Twobit drunkenly passes out on the couch.

The way he bails Dally out of jail even though hes struggling to pay the bills.

Darrel Curtis may not give hugs and massages, or draw pictures and write poems for his favorite people, but he does show his love. You just have to look.

This is not a light post, I just need it off my chest. This isn't silly and fun, nor is it Outsiders related, those tags are just here because that's the crowd I am a part of.

I saw a post here on Tumblr today that said something along the lines of "I'm so pro abortion, whenever I see someone pregnant on a TV show get pregnant I get mad." with over 25,000 notes. I do not remember who the post was by, but ultimately it doesn't matter.

Before I speak my thoughts, I'd like to preface that every one is entitled to their own opinions. Free speech is, what's supposed to, make this country great. Even if we aren't all there right now. I don't change my opinion of someone just because of something they said online. If you're kind to me and the people around you, I couldn't care less what your political opinions are! Anyway, on with my thoughts.

This harmless post can be funny, but it's the comments that made me uncomfy. Things like "ABORT THAT THANG" and straight up shaming women who choose to get pregnant and have a child.

That, is wrong.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm okay with abortions. But not as a form of birth control. Women who go out, irresponsibly and do this to themselves, like come on. (JUST TO CLARIFY I AM NOT SAYING "They're asking for it" Rape is wrong and we should teach our sons [and daughters in some cases] better. And any victims of it, I am so sorry and I hope you are okay. You are loved. I'm just saying, anyone going out specifically for a good time and being irresponsible knowing their consequences.)

I think if a child isn't in the picture for you at the current moment, there are better, and cheaper, ways of birth control than abortions.

Now with that said, I also understand that that is not a majority of abortions, and there are obviously exceptions. (i.e., you practiced safe sex or are on birth control and it did not work. I understand that neither condoms or most birth controls are a 100% working thing.)

Rape is obviously an exception.

A teen pregnancy is obviously also an exeption.

Or even if being 'irresponsible' was a one time thing and its not like you're going out and getting handsy with random people every night.

That being said, that was NOT my problem with this post. I consider myself pro-abortion. I do not think it should be illegal, nor do I feel it should be an overly taboo topic.

My problem with this post was the people.

The whole point of the My body, my choice movement was it was the woman's decision whether she decided to keep the baby or not because it was HER body.

Why are we now shaming women who DO decide they want to settle down and have kids or start a family?

If it's wrong to shame women for deciding to abort, why is it suddenly not wrong to shame women for deciding they want to keep the child?

I think it's gross and wrong that these people don't even begin to realize the double standard they are creating.

And the original post I understand could be just taken as in media, how sometimes a woman will haven't a baby and just become a shy housewife character. But I also want to say, that's less common now (yay! Strong women who can also be mothers!) But this person showed in their replies to comments left on the post that they very much were like everyone else in those comments shaming people for deciding to have children.

Like. I hate to break it to you brotha, you would not be here if a lady didn't decide that they were gonna keep you.

Sorry for this heavier post, aka literal essay, I'll be back to my silly Outsiders obsession in the next one. I just felt like this needed to be said.
