Now for the real guy, I love doing this because I get to do one of my favourite things - recommending books, so here we have:

Trapped! by Robert K. Murray and Roger W. Brucker is pretty much THE Floyd book of all time (I do not have this updated edition, I ought to make a purchase.)

The Longest Cave by Roger W. Brucker and Richard A. Watson is a good companion to Floyd, it's about exploring the greater Mammoth Cave systems.

The Life and Death of Floyd Collins by Homer Collins and John L. Lehrberger, while maybe not the most solid book on the Sand Cave incident, I personally think sheds some light on Floyd and his relationship with caves and family.

I can also recommend The Caves Beyond by Joe Lawrence, Jr. and Roger W. Brucker, Depths of the Earth by William R. Halliday, as well as Beyond Mammoth Cave by James D. Borden and Roger W. Brucker.

For photo books, you'd want The Floyd Collins Tragedy at Sand Cave by John Benton, Bill Napper, and Bob Thompson, as well as Mammoth Cave and the Kentucky Cave Region by Bob and Judi Thompson.

These articles are also pretty good reads, from Mental Floss, the NPR, and the Courier-Journal.

On documentaries and music (that isn't the musical!), have this documentary here and Death of Floyd Collins by Vernon Dalhart!

And now my absolute favourite, this GEM of a book that brought polar exploration and caving together:

Endurance and Going Under by Donald Finkel is a LOVELY little poetry book about the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition and Floyd Collins. It's rather hard to get ahold of these days though so ask me for a scan.
