"The Butler and the Little Lamb"

A Grateful Celebration (ft. Hazel MC)

The kitchen of the Demon Lord's Castle was dimly lit by the moon's light reflecting through the large windows. Only the sounds of a clinking teacup were heard. Aromatic tea was poured into it. Flower-patterned sugar cubes were dropped in with a gentle splash. The teaspoon softly dinked as it hit the mouth of the cup whilst stirring the tea. The demon smiled softly, knowing that his young master would appreciate this — as always.

'Barbatos!'

A familiar voice. He did not expect him to be here. Within a second, he placed the teaspoon down and turned to his back, bending his body slightly forward for a bow. ‘Yes, Young Master.’ Professional as always. He straightened up and saw the Crown Prince of the Devildom. Beside him was someone who had brought light into the underworld. ‘Ah, Hazel,’ he smiled. ‘Fancy seeing you here. I will brew tea for you as well, then.’ The brown-haired girl, Hazel, returned his smile and waved.

‘Oh, you don’t need to do that, Barbatos!’ The prince stopped his steward from reaching the tea cupboard. ‘We’re actually looking for you!’ The steward gazed at his master’s face, slightly confused. Hazel got to his side and held both of his gloved hands in hers.

‘We have something set up for you. Come with us.’ Her signature smile never failed to calm hearts. Despite being hesitant, Barbatos agreed to comply. He walked between the two and made their way out of the castle.

‘This is going to be fun! I can’t wait any longer!’ Said the prince with a childlike glee.

‘Now, now, Diavolo. This is for Barbatos, remember?’ Hazel calmly reminded him. Diavolo let out a hearty laugh. Barbatos just observed. What did they want? Are they going to force him to rest? Are they going somewhere that needs his supervision?

‘We’re here!’ Diavolo announced.

The Royal Garden. And they were not the only ones. They were there too. The Seven Rulers of the Devildom. They were dressed in… Butler outfits?

‘Mammon. Fix your posture.’

‘Gah! Quit pullin’ me by my collar, Lucifer!’

‘Ah, Beel! Stop drooling on the food!’

‘Sorry, Levi.’

‘Hang on for a moment longer, Beel. We’ll get to eat soon, too.’

‘Don’t give him false hope, Belphie.’

‘I look so impossibly cute in this~! It wasn’t so bad after all!’

Still as rowdy as ever, those siblings. Barbatos seemed speechless at the sight of them.

‘So, Barbatos. What do you think?’ Diavolo looked at his steward expectantly.

‘Diavolo had been so nervous ever since we began the preparations. It was adorable.’ Hazel chuckled softly.

A small smile formed on Barbatos’s face. ‘I understand the occasion now.’ He walked towards the brothers, followed by Diavolo and Hazel.

‘I’m sure you do, Barbatos.’ Lucifer replied. He and his brothers then dispersed to either side, revealing a table filled with iconic Devildom meals and plates stacked with dessert. ‘Happy birthday.’

‘Happy birthday, Barbatos!’ Everyone wished him in unison.

Like proper butlers, the brothers seated Barbatos, Hazel and Diavolo before they began to serve their plates. ‘Today, you will have the whole day off and your needs will be served by the new butlers!’ Diavolo said with a big grin. Barbatos chuckled.

‘Quite an interesting way to celebrate one’s birthday. But will they behave properly this time?’ He turned his gaze to Hazel.

‘I too hope that the brothers won’t do another repeat of last time, Hazel.’ Diavolo teased lightly.

‘Oh, don’t worry. I gave them a very thorough talking-to before all of this.’ Hazel’s sweet smile could fool a normal person because for the brothers, it was a cold reminder. This earned a good laugh from the prince and his steward.

It felt like a big tea party with close friends but for Barbatos, it was another birthday party that he will never forget.
