Zentangle.

I, a professional artist, am being dead serious. Zentangle is a form of doodling that is relaxing, and there are millions of variations so odds are you'll find the patterns that scratch your specific brain itch.

How does this help with learning to draw?

1. Builds hand eye co-ordination

2. Builds line confidence, especially by using pens and markers instead of pencils

3. Mistakes are easier to accept because it's a doodle

4. Mistakes can be worked with and incorporated into the design, building artistic problem solving

5. All practice is good practice, and you can do zentangles anywhere and on anything. Scrap paper, post-it notes, lined notebooks, and whiteboards are great

6. You'll have an awesome skill that can be used in the future for decoration on clothing, borders, and backgrounds when you get to more complex drawings of people! And you can use that to put off doing scene backgrounds for the next ten years

While drawing characters is your main goal, zentangles will help with building a solid foundation. Little steps are better than trying to scale a cliff.

Small things

Zevlor by the river, shirtless and cooling off after a training session. Strong, lean muscle on display, pocked with old battle wounds. Long, meandering gashes that are lighter than the rest of his skin. Stab wounds that have healed in messy knots of scar tissue. Countless nicks and cuts, all with a story of course, but most forgotten.

The juxtaposition of seeing all of those battle scars, imagining the intensity he must have shown in the battles where he got them-- and the stuttering, bashful man who quickly crosses his arms over his chest in an attempt at modesty as he notices you standing there checking him out.

Gotta share a self indulgent idea, totally not based on childhood dreams and trauma

After defeating Lorroakan, Rolan takes over the tower only to be informed that his previous master had a child. A little girl, who just wants someone to want her.

For Rolan, this is an unpleasant twist in his Arch Wizard journey. For Clera, being adopted by a mysterious wizard and moved into a magical tower is kind of a dream come true.
