Hi!! Sorry to bother you - would you maybe be willing to take a look at "Get busy"? I know a translation already exists (and massive kudos to them!!) but some lines are unclear to me and I'd like your input on it if that's okay!
hi slug!!! i've been looking for a translation of ''get busy'', but i can't find one that makes the lyrics sound clear;; if it's not too much trouble, i'd love to see your take on it please!! thank you again if you're able to :D
Sorry for the wait, anons!
This is one of those songs that is more vibes and innuendo than meaning, so I can totally see how it would be difficult to translate. I won't do anything too fancy, but I'll simplify it a bit so it's easier to understand. The footnotes are related to the song's liberal English use haha.
The summer night swelters 'cause we're on fire, underdogs turning the game in our favor, right now. Don't let self-consciousness hold you back. Get out there! Get busy! Go for broke, buddy! [1]
Lock eyes with me, rival; picture yourself taking home the trophy. If you blow it now, it's game over. So quit cowering! Get in the moment! We better get busy No, not today really… Wait… why oh why oh Oleole oh [2]
The floor's lit up by a dim spotlight. The sweet and spicy scent of ecstasy [3] floods my nose. The moment's so short it's dazzling. Excitement builds; exhilaration mounts. You dip and weave past me like it's nothing, and I'm blown away by your talent. I'm so caught up in the moment nothing feels real.
It's now or never-- there'll be nothing like this ever again. It's my chance, and I'm not gonna let it get away. My blood's boiling, wow. Rock my world now--[4] if you can. But hey, the night's still young! Lemme give you that midnight surprise. [5]

Cross paths with me, rival; [6] we have until morning, and that's an eternity. You ready? Now lock in. [7] Follow the beat--that's our exhilarated heartbeat. [8] Keep your eyes on the prize at the end of this passionate battle. Wait… why oh why oh Irotoridori yo [9]
I'm losing my mind over you-- you might take that as innuendo, and that's fine. You pull me in, you taunt, you tease--and every time, you make my nerves stand on end. Let's bring the best out of each other. Let's bring everything out of each other. Let's not walk away with hard feelings. Let's walk away basking in the afterglow. Just you and I together, matching each other stride for stride, rushing headlong to the finish... Yow! [10]

A siren's ringing endlessly, rolling through my body. Two people meeting, clashing, crashing-- Lock eyes with me, rival; picture yourself taking home the trophy. If you aren't in the right headspace, it's game over. So quit cowering! Get in the moment! We better get busy No, not today really… Wait… why oh why oh Oleole oh

Come at me with your whole body and soul, rival. Don't be chicken, now--this is everything I've been dreaming of. Give yourself up to the moment. Ratta Ratta Ratta Ratta yeah, yeah Embed--shh, don't listen to a word they say. Fill in--just keep dancing with me. Fill out--we'll make it so morning never comes. [11] Ratta Ratta Ratta Ratta yeah, yeah

[1] According to a Japanese dictionary, Eng. "push it" is "to take great risks," "to challenge [one's] limitations," and "to have great desire for something to happen." I feel like this must come from "don't push it" or "push [something] to [the limits/greater heights/etc]" but it's certainly not a phrase used in my area...
[2] While the last two lines are almost certainly just vibes and "we better get busy" is like "we gotta get out there! We gotta do it!", I'm genuinely not sure what "no, not today really" is supposed to signify... I have a hunch it's acting as shorthand for "[We're not gonna back down/give up/lose/other negative thing] today" because this English phrase appears to that effect in quite a lot of Japanese pop songs.
[3] As in excitement, passion, HOOWAH whoop-ass.
[4] "Dip my mind" appears to be a Hypmic original phrase. I don't see a consensus as to what it means, but I see at least a couple of other people interpreting it as 心を浸してくれ (make me feel a strong emotion; literally soaking or "dipping" the mind into a strong emotion) so that's my best take on it. At least we're all baffled together... Japanese and international fan solidarity...
[5] What's a midnight surprise? Your guess is as good as mine... In all seriousness, this seems like a phrase that's here for vibes. This song is innuendo-y in a "Bro... We are two rivals locked in a passionate contest for the trophy... Let me get lost in your beautiful eyes, bro..." way, and so this is here for titillation. What's a midnight surprise? Well, wouldn't you like to know, rival ;) To be clear--I don't think Jirou and Kuukou are singing at each other. I'm understanding this as them sharing the same values (appreciation of talented rivals, the thrill of the sport, intense drive) and singing to some off-screen rival in a playfully homoerotic way. You are free to fill in the blanks and assume whatever listener you wish.
[6] Literally "connecting dots" but I wanted this to match the structure of "lock eyes with me" as happens in the source.
[7] I'm like 90% sure they mean "pop in" as the non-literal definition of はまる (literally to be "popped into" place, like a button or switch is popped into position, or non-literally to be focused and excited about something). (Post-song edit: Oh. No, it's... it's something else "popping in" to fill a hole, huh...)
[8] I don't like this TL, but I don't know what else to do with it. The use of ビート (beat) suggests it's the speaker's + listener's hearts performing the 跳ねる (jump; heart jumping = to be excited or exhilarated). Literally, then, "follow the beat in accordance with [the heart] jumping" or "follow the beat in accordance with our excitement"
[9] Again, here for vibes/sound. Irotoridori means "varied" or something that has many colors/many nuances. It's spelled in an atypically artsy way here to suggest like...so many vibes. Like we are having so many feelings tonight.
[10] This is 100%, undeniably, comparing competition to cumming. Cheers.
[11] Hm. What interesting choices of English words. I wonder what thing could be embedding itself in what other thing. An exercise left to the reader.
[12] Oh dear, that "push it" means something else too!!! Oh well lol good for them
