Is there a fanfiction that's stuck with you for years after reading it?
#lots for good and bad reasons but by far the funniest is#that a naruto fic had a strong role in helping me develop my gender identity lmfao ✌#but also mid-2000s fanfic had a massive impact on how i write not just because of emulation but also because#they were extremely metatextual - there was a derth of fanfic commenting on the way fanfic was written#there was one extremely popular at the time but now deleted fic where the characters of lotr#would kidnap badfic authors and take them to an academy where they took classes on how to write less shitty lotr fanfic#cue me at thirteen years old developing my taste based on the simultaneous scolding i was#recieving and the shitty tenth walker fics with minimal understanding of lotr lore that i loved to read#and that tension between what sucks but is fun and what works logically/structurally but is less Fun#has stuck with me all these years as like. the angel and devil on my shoulder#true equilibrium is not indulging one over the other#thanks meta lotr fic. i've still never read the silmarillion. sorry. 🙏

somehow i still get surprised every time i see fandom take a guy who canonically has relationships with and genuinely loves women in a romantic way and makes him exclusively gay to validate their ship as being somehow more truer/purer/better than the het ship instead of just. letting him be bi and still like women just not this time. like what do we say, fandom? everyone say it with me: sorry women!
