I genuinely don’t get the last anon cuz there’s this new trend where you’re cool if you’re above having any emotional response to characters on the screen or on book.

we all sometimes enjoy hovering over the narrative and analysing the themes but then at the same time we can also love getting invested in certain characters and look even if you want to look at the nuances for all characters from all sides, well that’s the point isn’t it that they written this so blatantly biased that one side is demonic and acknowledged by the narrative that they’re such but the other side is angelic and we can’t even enjoy that cuz it so blatantly comes from coddling the characters and REMOVING all the nuances.

Obviously if this is distressing people too much then they should take a step back but I think it’s fine to be invested in the stories to have passionate opinions

I don't mean to drag this user because they meant well, but I saw this post going around saying that Ned and Oberyn would have a lot in common and, like, basically understand each other's pain because they bought lost sisters during the rebellion and "well ackshully Lyanna and Elia were bought victims/Ratgar's victims" and I swear to god if I see any more of takes like these I will go madder (tm) then Dracona did when she heard those damn bells in King's Landing. The fucking audacity and lack of media literacy and reading comprehension it takes to make the comparison between what O/E went through and what N/L went through is mind boggling and I won't be responsible for the person I became if I see another user even TRY to make the comparison again.

Maybe Oberyn would start by asking honourable Ned Stark why he stayed besties with the man who walked over the bloody corpses of Elia and her children and then joined hands in ruling. If Oberyn is half the man we know, he should have smacked Ned's blockhead into a new year and viewed every Stark as complicit in his sister's ruin.

I'm over people trying to act like what they went through is remotely the same, Oberyn would have killed to have what Ned got in the end. Instead, his sister was smashed to actual pieces with her children, while Ned's passed by his side with her son safe. Wow, Reddit is WHACKING Alicent, the writers and the Team Black bias at the Greens' expense, did not think I'd see the day. They are normally so far up the Blacks' asses. Alicent selling out her whole family to die for a chance to sniff the unwashed air around Rhaenyra is not going down the admirable feminist way the crackheads in the writer's room thought, she's actually finished at this point lmao. And the consensus favourite character, the one who they've all finally clocked is being deliberately degraded in every scene and written as a cartoon monster based on Mushroom's fanfic, while Rhaenyra is made a saint who has no flaws, but still somehow coming out as the most sympathetic of the lot?

something that I really hate about the hotd fandom is that they straight up just invent people in their heads to he mad about. This is most commen in black stans but green stans are weirder about it. I think both alicent and rhaenerya and every character deserve sympathy, at least, because they are not real, and so you do not harm anyone by digging into implications

Neither of them deserve a lick of sympathy, Rhaenyra was always a selfish moron with no redeeming qualities, and any sympathy Alicent had died this season because the writers have rewritten her to be the sole cause of all this destruction and without the spine to stand by it. Can't wait to see them both kick the bucket and hopefully have said bucket rebound on their goofy, empty heads.

And after seeing what a stupid, pathetic failure they've had Alicent become, I sorely regret it. Selling out the child she quite literally had DRAGGED kicking and screaming to the throne, so the selfish flop who would not spit on her if she were on fire can have a disastrous six month reign. Does not care that all her children- precious Helaena included- were sentenced to death from birth because of the same Team Black she's betrayed them for. Another anon here. Let's not forget that Cole verbally (and physically) asked Rhaenyra to stop when she was seducing him. That in combination with the power imbalance, makes the scene really uncomfortable. Their scene was definitely dubcon/coercion. I absolutely believe that he had feelings for her, and was attracted to her, but STILL did not want to do it. Yet people have the audacity to call the victim an incel for his reactions?

He was damned if he did, damned if he didn't, and that should have been enough for the audience/writers to view it as supremely selfish and wrong of Rhaenyra to ask it of him at all. You'd understand it if it were Cole exerting his power over someone below him who couldn't say no (you understand it for Aegon), but can't see it for the oath sworn, low born kingsguard? His first reaction when "caught" was to beg Alicent to give him a swift death, and not to castrate and torture him. Surely that says it all.

Yet somehow the show, with its inability to accurately convey the crushing weight of sullied honour, and the fans, with their one braincell, have made him into the evil punching bag. From what little I've seen, it's even worse in S2, like they pander to the audience's hate through his interactions with other characters? All because he refused to play the silent bed warmer for a decade (unlike certain dignity-less men, who aren't even given the respect of being remembered after years of whoring themselves out) and was angry to have been tossed aside like a used rag, when he had risked everything for nothing.

Lol a bit late to respond now, but pretty much everything that has happened in terms of the bastardisation of Alicent's character. I said last season if she continued to bootlick Rhaenyra after B&C, she could go kick rocks. And somehow they've done worse than that. Doesn't give a fuck that her grandson was beheaded, doesn't care that Helaena's life is destroyed because of Rhaenyra, doesn't care that Aegon is a burned twig, doesn't care that all Aemond's villainy comes from being blinded in one eye by Rhaenyra's devil spawn. It's just boo hoo, I'm a bad mother, boo hoo, my bestie deserves better, boo hoo, I should be regent, hang on, let me drown myself after being the one to set everything in motion. Not exaggerating when I say one of the worst written characters of all time. I know S1E7 Alicent and that beautiful knife is rolling in her grave. This is the writers punishing her for daring to have one episode not hanging off Rhaenyra's ass.

I knew Aegon would be the most compelling character, despite these hack writers. I knew Team Black would continue to get pandered to. What I didn't see coming was them apparently axing Nettles for that boring ass Rhaena. Didn't see the complete idiot they've made out of Aemond- he has now been made the sole cause of almost every major Team Green downfall and don't be surprised when they make HIM responsible for Helaena jumping to further absolve saint Rhaenyra. But everything else is as bad as I expected.

From the clips I've seen, Aemond has become a one note moron who will single handedly lose everything for the Greens with his stupidity. Cole is the punching bag again. Alicent is quite literally the worst character ever put to paper, a complete joke, she should just go and defect to the Blacks so she can take up residence in Rhaenyra's colon the way she clearly wants to, because God knows she dgaf about anyone who actually loves her. Team Black was always dumb & boring so no change there, just more people clocking it.

Heard Aegon is the breakout character though and Tom Glynn Carney the performer of the season. Hmm, who could have predicted?? Lol imagine what could have been if they didn't make him a cartoon villain in S1 and hadn't wrote this garbage as Team Black fanfic. This show isn't fit to lace even GoT S7/8's boots.
