Eight of Swords
I'm going to be posting daily prompts to inspire writing, art or journaling. Use these as you would like to help keep your creative practices moving.
Key words/ideas:
internal conflict
being powerless
delusions and distorted vision
Some thoughts that occur to me:
A character is powerless in the face of something. What is it?
Create a magic system where the users of the magic need to be blindfolded.
A character has two choices, but is paralysed by indecision. What are the consequences of them not choosing.
Your hero becomes convinced of a conspiracy theory in which the antagonist is persecuted. How? What happens?
Note that cards are drawn at random and may be drawn more than once. In that case I will repost with an additional idea. I am going to cap the number of repeats at 3 until I’ve been through the whole deck, but other than this I let the luck of the draw decide. Coming up with more ideas for the same card will force me to be more imaginative and its something I strongly recommend.

Two of Wands
I'm going to be posting daily prompts to inspire writing, art or journaling. Use these as you would like to help keep your creative practices moving.
Key words/ideas:
goals
moving forward
will to overcome
open-mindedness
Some thoughts that occur to me:
A character has been raised by a mentor with one particular point of view. They are then faced with something that changes that view drastically. How do they move forward?
A character dreams of travel and adventure, but takes no action. What are the consequences of them not taking the heroic actions they dream of?
A hero often overcomes adversity through willpower. What happens when the hero and the villain both do this resulting in a stalemate?
Write a story where the antagonist is open to new ideas, but the hero is stuck in a toxic nostalgia for the old ways.
Note that cards are drawn at random and may be drawn more than once. In that case I will repost with an additional idea. I am going to cap the number of repeats at 3 until I’ve been through the whole deck, but other than this I let the luck of the draw decide. Ten of Swords
I'm going to be posting daily prompts to inspire writing, art or journaling. Use these as you would like to help keep your creative practices moving.
Key words/ideas:
turning point
martyrdom and betrayal
self-pity and drama
Some thoughts that occur to me:
A hero’s journey ends in martyrdom. Write a story that follows that.
As above, but from the point of view of the betrayer who caused the martyrdom.
Instead of overcoming the darkest hour, your character wallows in self-pity. What do the rest of your cast do?
Pick a turning point in a story you have written/a classic. Then come up with 10 alternatives for how it could turn out.

Three of Coins
I'm going to be posting daily prompts to inspire writing, art or journaling. Use these as you would like to help keep your creative practices moving.
Key words/ideas:
cooperation
community
learning
reward
Some thoughts that occur to me:
An artist receives a commission that becomes increasingly unusual. Only as they create do they realise their creation is dangerous.
The Freemasons began as a cooperative of craftspeople and gained a great deal of power. Imagine a similar organisation in the future. How does it gain power?
In the UK, it is traditional in the first week of the University year, to join clubs and societies at the ‘Fresher’s Fair. Imagine one of those is a front to recruit for a cult.
A charismatic figure rewards people for doing something unusual. Why?
Note that cards are drawn at random and may be drawn more than once. In that case I will repost with an additional idea. I am going to cap the number of repeats at 3 until I’ve been through the whole deck, but other than this I let the luck of the draw decide. Nine of Coins
I'm going to be posting daily prompts to inspire writing, art or journaling. Use these as you would like to help keep your creative practices moving.
Key words/ideas:
abundance, bountiful harvest
inner peace
independence
Some thoughts that occur to me:
What if Sleeping Beauty fortified herself inside the roses to keep the prince out?
A beautiful woman living in a beautiful garden. Who is she really? What insight can she offer? Does she have an ulterior motive?
The hero typically has helpers - a mentor, companions. What if they were completely alone? How does that change the story?
A small business seems to have an abundant supply of something normally quite rare. How did they get it?
Note that cards are drawn at random and may be drawn more than once. In that case I will repost with an additional idea. I am going to cap the number of repeats at 3 until I’ve been through the whole deck, but other than this I let the luck of the draw decide. A woman takes in and nurtures those with special powers who are hunted. Why?
An artist of some kind speaks truth to a tyrannical power through their work, protected in law. What happens?
Note that cards are drawn at random and may be drawn more than once. In that case I will repost with an additional idea. How would humanity adapt if the sea levels rose suddenly and significantly? Look up your area on a map that shows sea level rise impacts and focus on that.
Note that cards are drawn at random and may be drawn more than once. In that case I will repost with an additional idea. The Sun

Key words/ideas:
radiance and light
attainment and fulfilment
victory
Some thoughts that occur to me:
Come up with a story where the light is bad and darkness good.
Write a story where an innocent child comes to power with no one to limit them. How would their youth and innocence affect their rule?
Beings of light appear on earth, but take no action. No one can communicate with them. How do people respond to them?
As global warming increases, our attitudes to the sun change. Think forward to a distant future - how would people regard the harsh sun?

The Devil
I'm going to be posting daily prompts to inspire writing, art or journaling. Use these as you would like to help keep your creative practices moving.
Key words/ideas:
obsession
destruction
accepting the darker parts of yourself
Some thoughts that occur to me:
The Devil is the enigmatic leader who seeks control - a traditional villain. I’ve seen him re-written as misunderstood. Could he be the hero without losing the things that make him a villain?
Create a world in which the Devil has successfully overthrown the church and become the major religious figure. How would the world differ? Try both the misunderstood and true villain versions.
Your character is the hero, but they have an excessive obsession with something or someone. What happens?
To save the world your character must destroy something precious to them. Can they do it?
Note that cards are drawn at random and may be drawn more than once. In that case I will repost with an additional idea. I am going to cap the number of repeats at 3 until I’ve been through the whole deck, but other than this I let the luck of the draw decide. Coming up with more ideas for the same card will force me to be more imaginative and its something I strongly recommend.

Six of Wands
I'm going to be posting daily prompts to inspire writing, art or journaling. Use these as you would like to help keep your creative practices moving.
Key words/ideas:
victory
overcoming hardship
personal success
Some thoughts that occur to me:
I like to twist things, so the first thing that comes to mind is a false victory. A character who has fought hard for a victory only to find out that it was entirely the wrong thing to do.
What was the price of this victory? What was the hero willing to sacrifice to complete their journey?
A single character in a group becomes successful. How do the others react?
A successful character recalls the hardships they have overcome.
Note that cards are drawn at random and may be drawn more than once. In that case I will repost with an additional idea. I am going to cap the number of repeats at 3 until I’ve been through the whole deck, but other than this I let the luck of the draw decide. Ten of Coins
I'm going to be posting daily prompts to inspire writing, art or journaling. Use these as you would like to help keep your creative practices moving.
Key words/ideas:
financial success and abundance
luck
the bounty of a lifetime of work
Some thoughts that occur to me:
A character retiring wealthy at the end of a successful career. What conflict might they face? How did they achieve their success?
The themes of this card are also centred on the successful family at the pinnacle of a community, spreading success. I like to twist these meanings and find the horror in them.
A wealthy family suddenly disappears on the same day that the source of their wealth disintegrates somehow. What is going on?
A character wins the lottery. How does this change their life?
