Tier List of Hermit Weirdness made by Gem and Ren Today on Ren's Stream!

Notably: Ren tried to fight Gem on Grian and she insisted that of all the Hermits she’s met, he’s pretty normal compared to Ren, Mumbo, Pearl, Scar, and Joel. Gem actually wanted to put Scar lower, but Ren thought being Disney obsessed was weird enough to warrent S rank. He also tried to say Cleo was one of the weirdest people he’s ever met and should be in S, to which Gem reminded him that sometimes Cleo is the level headed one in the situation, such as when Mumbo and Bdubs wanted to call their alliance in Secret Life the “axis” and Cleo reminded them of the Implications ™. They also originally thought X should be S tier but decided to move him down. It was Ren's decision that Joe Hills should get his own tier.

The ones they most emphatically agreed on were that Joe, Zed, and Pearl are weird as hell and that Beef is definitely the most normal Hermit and the only thing that makes him weird is that he plays Minecraft online. They also said that Hermits who have weird online personas but are normal people irl went into the “kinda weird” tier and that a chunk of their decision making was how people act in real life rather than online.

Do you have any advice for beginner writers?

Hey Anon! I certainly do, although I'm not sure how helpful my advice will be. I'll give it my best shot!

Read, Read, Read! Genuinely one of the best pieces of advice I can offer. Read a variety of authors, genres, styles and concepts. It'll help you get a feel for good dialogue, plot balancing, how much prose is too much prose, and everything else. Not only is it great to learn, but it'll also help you figure out what you like and don't like! I recommend reading at least one really bad book so you can figure out what you didn't like, and how to avoid it.

Kill Your Darlings. This can refer to a lot of things: characters, plots, chapters, ideas. Sometimes you have to let things go, and that's a natural part of writing. Scrap a chapter if it's not helpful to the story; change a plot point if the characters have shifted while you write; cut out parts that you love but will only bog down the writing. It's heartbreaking, but it has to be done. Save the scrapped ideas and see if you can use them somewhere else!

Share Your Writing. I can't express how important this is. Friends, family, posting it online, whatever you feel comfortable doing- getting a second pair of eyes on your writing is life changing. Don't let it sit on your computer or phone forever- share it! Ask what people think! Find someone you trust to give you honest advice and ask them for it!

Don't Be Afraid To Write Bad Stuff. Seriously. If writers didn't write because they thought it would be bad, we wouldn't have any writers. Remember that everything you're writing is helping you become a better writer, and remember that you can always go back and edit it. You can't edit a blank page, as my fellow writers like to remind each other.

Let The Characters Decide. This applies to most things in writing, not only characters, but for the sake of simplicity I'll refer to characters. If midway into your story you realize that a character is doing something you didn't plan for, or you're thinking about sending them down a different path- do it! Embrace it! Explore that alternate path and see where it leads- you can always return to your starting point if it doesn't work out. Writing is a wild, crazy, chaotic kind of thing; sometimes the characters will hijack your story and start making their own decisions, and sometimes you just have to roll with it.

And, most importantly: HAVE FUN! Writing is a craft like any other, one that takes time and effort to hone. But the most important part of it is to enjoy what you're writing, and the rest happens as you go along. To quote a fantastic Tumblr post I copied onto the first page of my sketchbook: "Don't let anyone piss on your good mood, amigo. If they do? Eat them."
