I miss when the characters used to be meaner, it was so funny. I still crack up at lines like "Jay, how on earth did you become a ninja, seriously?" or "Sure we can't understand Zane, but did we ever?" or of course "it should be someone expendable, like Jay". Anyone who calls it bullying clearly hasn't seen how a male friend group interacts with each other. I know in DR they're older and more mature now (and also often separated), but that's part of why I think I'm not as attached to the next gen. Arin and Sora would never say lines like this to each other because they have different personalities than the OG's, so they don't get many chances to endear themselves to the viewers with memorable quotes, and then you're left with just Wyldfyre being a jerk to everyone and no one being jerky back to her (which is why she came off so unlikable in the beginning).

Rogue Jay is so boring I'm sorry, but I genuinely don't think he warrants any of the hype, especially considering Ninjago's made characters like him before so he also just feels like repeat. Bounty hunting/thieving mechanical wing wearing jerk who's motivation is getting paid and bonds with Nya? Ronin's already done that. Main ninja that loses his memory and gets manipulated into becoming a villain then gets pitted against one of the ninja? Zane's already done that. I was honestly so excited for administration Jay cuz it felt like something actually new and interesting, thanks to the unique setting and premise. It's disappointing that it wasn't what they stuck with for Jay's character.

lmao DR said how about instead of writing his personality inconsistently we write his role in the plot inconsistently. Bro went from being an office worker to an evil villain club member to a bounty hunter.

Unironically I don't think anyone can really call Jay an amazing, perfect character nor call him a shit, terrible character because he's genuinely such an inconsistently written character throughout the series. Take for instance in the 11-min era; The whole queen of the Munce episode he does absolutely nothing when Murtessa defames Nya, an absolute ass move, but then in Crystalized when the Mechanic defames Nya he proceeds to fight and beat his as with Nya 💀. Like, I genuinely don't know what they try to do with Jay sometimes because it's all over the place. Hopefully DR changes this lolz

It's a military-style flat top, like Arnold Schwarzenegger and other white people had in old movies in the 80s and 90s. Some of the old hairpiece's first uses are white Harry Potter characters. It can be used flexibly to represent both straight and curly hair-types. The movie hairpiece has been used for both M'Baku from Black Panther and the white general guy from the blue people Avatar

It's not a guaranteed "Zane IS black and you're ignorant if you don't also see him as black" the way Arin obviously is for multiple reasons. you can interpret Zane however you want

there's the elephant of the room of whether it's right for any of the ninja to be depicted as fully white, but I'm not touching that beehive

Jay x Nya is the only exception. Other than that, I don't really ship any of the original six ninja together... I don't hate the ships between the ninja (most of them anyways) but like I've always loved the brotherly/sibling bonds that they have, and I wish more people would keep that bond instead of making it all romantic and stuff. Especially with the original four like- just because two men are close with each other doesn't automatically make them gay for each other... just saying...🤷‍♀️ Again, I don't hate the ships between the ninja. If you really like a ship and it makes you happy then alright you can ship it, but I crave more platonic/familial content from this fandom regarding them. 💔💔 -🍴

I mean Sora HAD her arc in the first season and it still didn't make her interesting.

Arin's arc was shaping up to be pretty cool but it looks like they're bailing on it idk.

Anyway point is the og show was able to make us care about its characters in just two seasons, DR shouldn't need that much more time. It is definitely not too early to decide if we like DR or not.

The Forbidden Five suck. Part of the reason I was interested in them is because I thought that they would be another attempt at an “opposite ninja” since season 2 and (debatably) crystallized.

Doc was hyping them up so much on Bluesky, saying they would have parallels to the ninja but the only ones I can think of are Rox and Nokt being siblings like Kai and Nya and how unlike Lloyd, the green one being most useless.

I think they should’ve known spinjitzu just like the ninja and I think it should’ve been a requirement to use Shatterspin like the rising dragon. And yknow it’s supposed to be a corrupted form of spinjitzu.

It baffles me they didn’t explain HOW they came together. I wish thunderfang was actually a mentor to them considering he gave them their powers, like maybe he wanted to test the powers he created and took the 5 in as kids to use them. While they see him as a father figure, he could parallel Wu where they’re both dragons and both are teachers but whereas Wu loves his students and sees them as family, thunderfang only sees the five as test subjects and lab rats that could be replaced at any time. Another Wu and thunderfang parallel I could see is him teaching the five how to use Shatterspin and giving the five’s beliefs about war and strength from thunderfang’s personal experience as a war general.

Sure there would be Massive timeline issue from that, but I’m sure it could work somehow given how long they were in the nether space for.

I also wish that they used to be actual heroes. We know from the Shatterspin comics that they led the wyldness into a golden age of sorts and united everyone under an iron rule. I wish we could actually see the conflicts that came before and how the 5 solved them. Like maybe all the different animal tribes were at war with each other and the five had to bring peace or something and all those conflicts drove them insane so they created the wolf clan and took over.

I also think that their powers should work differently from everyone else given how their made by a rejected source dragon. When Doc revealed Nokts element to be brute force I was thinking “Oh, so the reason he didn’t use his power in the tournament was because it was ALWAYS ON!”

That’s false but that got me to think, what if the five didn’t have complete control over their own powers? The reason they’re so dangerous is because their powers are very chaotic and unpredictable. Because they come from the “source” of CHAOS.

Brute force is always active and gives Nokt super strength he can’t turn off and he breaks everything he slightly touches. any hits Nokt takes could be stored and allow him to hit back harder. And the more damage he takes, the more his red aura increases which can allow him to fire energy blasts and stuff like that.

Rox should actually USE fear which could be like scarecrows fear gas or something. Or it could bring the fears of her opponents to life. maybe instead of fear her power could be emotion and she could manipulate the emotions of others and that’s how she’s the leader of the 5.

Side note: it is so stupid how we had to learn what her element was through a non canon magazine no one AND I DO MEAN NO ONE is going to read.

Decay could be more like shigiraki’s as in kur can’t touch anything without it decaying. She tries wearing gloves and those decay as well.

Instead of misfortune, Zarkts power could be just Luck. It could be like Hakari from jjk where he creates a slot machine for different results, sometimes getting stat buffs, sometimes having instant kill abilities, but also stuff very chaotic like misfortuning himself or switching the bodies of all his opponents.

Swarm is…fine I guess

Finally, they should’ve had actual dynamics with each other because all their scenes with them together are either mostly silent or nokt and Rox doing all the talking which is just saying the most generic, mustache twirling villain shit ever. That one scene in season 2 where Zarkt pushed Kur gave them all more characterization than the entirety of season 3.

Like Maybe Zarkt could be the laziest since he relies everything up to chance and could have a gambling addiction of sorts. Drix could have DID since he’s made of bugs. Kur, there’s so little screen time of her that idk what to make of her.

Or something like Surge and Kit from Sonic who are basically Sonic and tails but all their negative aspects are amped up to 11.

And last, I wish they didn’t fucking die man. Imagine the Five riding on thunderfangs back as they fought the ninja that would’ve been so hype. They were the only villains I actually gave a damn about besides Ras and his master.
