the problem with reading and writing leading to a strong vocabulary is that you tend to know the vibe of words instead of their meanings.

if I used this word in a sentence, would it make sense? absolutely. if you asked me what it meant, could I tell you? absolutely not.

Every time I watch VD I get caught up on the scene where Leon almost falls off the roof.

Throughout the beginning of the movie (& novel), it's pretty explicitly shown that Leon's depressed and not doing well. And while it's implicit in the movie through his word-choice and how he describes things, it's more explicit in the novel that he's pretty much passively suicidal. During one point in the battle against Arias, he even thinks about how "today is a good day to die anyway".

And then he immediately almost falls off the roof, nearly falling to his death, and he lays there staring over the edge trying to catch his breath. I think that might've been a moment of clarity, a moment of realizing that he doesn't really want to die and that, perhaps, things could get better. And I can't imagine how terrifying that must've been-- of all the ways Leon's probably thought he was going to be killed in the field, I don't think falling from a skyscraper in Manhattan was one of them. But despite this, he has to pick himself up and keep fighting.
