16.7 Zero Tolerance (Part Two)

CONWAY: Mr Brownlow has every confidence in you. MONROE: Oh, that’s all I need.
Feels like forever since a proper Andrew focus episode and this is a good one. Ultimately, it’s about priorities and making promises you can’t keep, but it’s also a great character study for Andrew—his focus, which creates blindspots, his low-key arrogance/unwillingness to listen when he thinks he already knows what’s going on, and a v.rare show of temper/violence. Some great stuff about parents being responsible for their children, too, which sets him up for his own issues with his daughter later this season. Meanwhile, the results of Cass’s youthful optimism are almost as dire.

Wearing that hideous Reg Hollis shirt out for afternoon tea.

#Just need the even more hideous Mike Dashwood glasses to finish the look#Which unfortunately are in my pocket bc for some reason I haven't replaced them yet#Damn you Mike Dashwood for influencing me!!#I'd say the same about the shirt but that was honestly a complete accident#Bought it from Armstrong's in Edinburgh and then saw the episode#Kind of obsessed w/ it though so idc#Apologies this side blog appears to have become only very tenuously about The Bill#Reg Hollis#I promise I will start making more direct and coherent posts at some point

This programme is actually so stupid and not The Bill, but it is fun and it has Trudie Goodwin, Kevin Lloyd and an incredibly enthusiastic (and competitive) Colin Tarrant on it as a team doing some very silly things.
#God I do love Colin Tarrant an insane amount#And it's so nice to see him in something as himself and not as a character#It's really bad but worth a watch if you haven't seen it#Even just for Colin's banter with Chris Tarrant at the beginning#The Bill#Also have just been looking through the episodes and apparently ep 9 is Brittas vs Drop the Dead Donkey so looking forward to that one

having just watched mike dashwood’s guest appearances at the end of the 1992 series, all i can say is there is no heterosexual explanation for the way jim and mike were acting with each other.
#You're so right there is zero heterosexual explanation#I mean tbf there's no heterosexual explanation for pretty much anything the two of them do but particularly these last guest eps#Mike in Finders Keepers fully gives me 'kid teasing another kid bc they like them but don't know how to deal with the feelings' vibes#I feel like maybe the relationship would work out better for them when they're not working together all the time though#Like they can choose to spend time together and not just be forced into it#Idk maybe that's me massively overestimating Mike Dashwood and his ability to not lead Jim on and to just generally not be a dick#But idk maybe he'd have time to think on it when he's gone and realise what he's missing and what he was doing to Jim the whole time#Dashers would def have to make the first move and prove himself though#Bc I reckon Jim has had enough of his shit and has decided not to take it anymore#Which ofc won't last for long

Anyone have any headcanons about how Ted and Roxanne actually met? Or about how exactly she came to be his informant? I'm trying to flesh out some ideas, but they're not quite coming together how I want them to.
#Or do we ever find out? I feel like we never got much backstory (if any) but I'm struggling to remember rn#Even though I've only just watched the eps again lol#I've pulled in bits of Paul O'Grady's own experiences and other random ideas but I've not quite managed to pin down anything solid#Also of you have any song ideas for a playlist bc the one I have is woefully lacking and pretty cliché with what is on there#Apart from About You Now by the Sugababes which I desperately want to use to make an edit of them#But I've never done it before and I haven't quite figured out how to go about it yet#Why are they still in my head?? Literally plaguing my every waking (and sleeping) hour#Unfortunately I don't hate it#Ngl it's so bad that even my students have started asking me about it so ik I'm in deep#I have been watching other eps I promise but so far it hasn't made a difference#Ted Roach#The Bill

The Bill - 'Old Enemies' + 'New Friends' (ITV, 2000).
"Only two people I've ever known have treated me like a woman, one is Mickey Owen, and the other one is you."
#:(#I will say though it was a joy to see them back together again and I'm glad they brought them both back despite what happened

Roxanne deserved so much better, and I am beyond pissed off that she didn't get that, even for a little while. The one saving grace for me rn is that Ted cradled her as she died. I just wish he'd been brave enough to tell her he loved her whilst she was still alive (or that she'd survived and he'd had the chance later on).
#I'm not saying that what Ted and Roxanne had wasn't also a little bit toxic#But I think if she'd been out of that situation and they'd been able to set some proper boundaries and ground rules it could have been good#Why am I going insane about this 25 years too late?#Will be thinking about them and their tragedy for at least the rest of this week but probably for the rest of my life#The Bill Old Enemies#The Bill New Friends#These are my more coherent thoughts and there's probably more to come but might have to rewatch#As much as I don't want to#Spoilers ig#Just in case#Ted Roach

Ok, had never actually watched Old Enemies and/or New Friends and didn't expect that outcome but absolutely should have expected that outcome. Not wine drunk this time, just crying and very angry at Jack Meadows and devastated for Ted bc yes he was in love with her and they could have had their happy ending. And maybe I'm just being optimistic, but I fully believe that if she'd survived the stabbing, they would have had a happy ending, or at least a go at one.
I'm pretty wine drunk which maybe isn't the best time to be watching The Bill, but was Ted Roach maybe a little bit in love with Roxanne and a lottle conflicted about it?
#I knew there was a reason I never watched these damn episodes#Fucking rambling I know and why am I this angry about a fucking programme that aired literally 25 years ago?#Idk but I am I'm so pissed#You best believe I'm going to be pretending this never happened#This is the point where I'd usually turn to fanfiction but there is none so idk how to cope now#Maybe I'll spend my days at work doing nothing but fantasising about the life they could have had#Maybe I'll attempt to write even though I can't#Fuck#Fuck fuck fuck#I need to go back to 90s The Bill to try and get over this emotional turmoil#Will just watch some Andrew pissing everyone off content that will help for sure#These are my mostly unfiltered and unhinged first thoughts after watching but posting the next day

#Idk maybe he is just worried for her safety and there's nothing else to it#Like I say though very wine drunk rn#But idk I just feel like there's more to it#The Bill#S6E31: Information Received#Ted Roach#Seems like a very...complicated situation

People who ship Jack and Andrew, what are your headcanons on how they got together? Bc I have so many ideas about established relationship them, but cannot fathom for the life of me how they might have come to be a couple in the first place, bar something completely and ridiculously explosive (but still as yet undecided).
#Idk how many people do ship Jack and Andrew but I am fully obsessed with the idea of them being together#And I've read the fanfictions that are out there (all of which I adore) but I still can't settle on any ideas#The Bill#Andrew Monroe#Jack Meadows#Very intrigued to see if anyone actually has any thoughts on this

15.37 Foreign Body (Part Two)
SKASE: You wouldn’t mind if I, um you know. MEADOWS: No disrespect, Rod, but, uh, I think you’ve got more chance of teaching a jellyfish to tapdance. SKASE: You should never underestimate the master, Sir.
MEADOWS: They think we’re gay.
MEADOWS: No disrespect, Rod, but from the word go, your presence on this trip has been a complete bloody disaster.
Chris is the real hero of this one, paying Jack back for cutting him out of his own operation by not mentioning his French expertise and getting him to take Rod instead. At least it gives Jack a scapegoat when he cocks things up time and time again, although his soft spot for Rod is well in evidence. And Rod got to go for drinks with a French person, even if it ended up being Patrick the Gendarme instead of a “bird”. A very entertaining episode, and Chris and Jack are always great when they get the chance to be funny.

15.50 Critical Mass
There’s a bomb in the station, Andrew is (mostly) brave, Derek is (entirely) tactless, and Jack doesn’t realise the obvious until it’s too late.
