I love Stardew Valley, it's such a comfortable game to play, but the plot feels a little light at times. I bet it would be more compelling if the farmer had amnesia, crippling substance dependence and was suffering so much mental degradation that he thought his clothes were speaking to him.

got his dad kidnapped, his friend kidnapped, mizora is waiting for him at camp and his favorite clown got killed. terrible day for the blade.

also he was made to be the perfect trickster hero lying to the baddies with that high charisma so i got him to do the talk

i think my biggest grievance with the qunari in da is that bioware keeps wanting them to be. almost not human (human in the humanity/person sense, not literally). oh the qunari have a breeding program and their name is actually just a serial code. oh they dont waste anything so they dont have sweets. oh they are all so rigid they think one way. it feels like they keep trying to dehumanize them instead of showing them as people.

and it gets to me because we do have crumbs of how the qunari really act. We have sten's dream, that show the other two guys he was if talking and making jokes and being sarcastic. we know that when someone is deemed hero by qunari standards, they have days long celebrations that can take a while for the ben hassrath to bring everyone back to normal. tallis say that the qunari only act all stoic and quiet when there are others, non-qunari, around, and that amongst themselves they talk and gossip like anyone. despite being told there's no relationships on the qun, bull has the whole dragon tooth thing so that you know you're not apart or smthg. and im like i want more of that. more of how they act with each other, how their culture is and less of. "if you dont convert we'll fuck up you mind with drugs"

Only in Deltarune can your favorite character directly acknowledge you 🫵 specifically, the player of this specific run of the game by stuffing you in a cardboard box, beating you with a hockey stick, hurling you into the garbage and violently kicking the shit out of you. First ever blorbo to despise me personally. Incredible experience, no notes. I hope they put me in the garbage disposal next chapter, or perhaps the air fryer.

Not to be a bitch but sometimes people engage with fiction in the most boring way possible, and nowhere is this clearer than in videogames. Like what you mean you hate a character just because they were kind of abrasive when speaking to the player character? "They were mean to me" and it didn't occur to you to wonder why? Like, what might their attitude toward you reveal about the world? About the social dynamics within it? About their own perspectives and backgrounds and personalities? Does it even occur you to ask? Would you only have liked them if they bowed to your presence and talked about how great you are? Like I'm sorry but you're so boring. How boring fiction would be if it cathered to you
