A Feeling
It started with a haircut.
Not the first one.
Not the second,
Or even the third.
It started when the world fell apart and kept going,
and I was expected to keep going too.
Like the shards of it weren't digging into my feet as I tried to catch up.
It started with a mirror,
a bottle of red hair dye,
a moment of desperation,
and a moment of surprise.
A reflection that paused and whispered,
Oh,
Yes.
This is right.
This is me.
It started with a step in the right direction,
and a bit of the world
settling into place.

Night Shift
Rise without the sun,
the sun not having risen.
Pulled roughly from the gentle grip
of dreams left half eaten,
dripping out from rows
of pale teeth,
clenched against the cold.
Strap into the metal coffin,
geared up for transport to a temporary grave
as white lines fly idly past.
A funeral procession wreathed in white,
uncaring and indifferent.
See the reflection, stood uneasy at the door,
eyes blind and burning,
waiting for release.
Weightless words tumble briefly
out of despondent mouths,
dissipating with departure.
Feel the plastic splash of light,
a buzzing glow that sinks into bones.
Bones that sing along in time
with time that follows crooked lines.
Stretch like taffy the lonely seconds
between now and the rising
of bodies,
of minds,
of dawn
over the horizon.

Author : @shanastoryteller
Illustrator : @citrusvoid
Original Story
It took me over a year to finish, but I finally extended the original 6 page prologue comic I did of Where Will They Live out to a 27 page, complete story.
I’ll be posting it in 5 parts. I’m doing this on my iPad and am figuring out the best way to link things on the fly so please be patient with me.
Happy new year :)
DISCLAIMER
‘Were will they live’ story and characters belong to Shanastoryteller.
CHARACTER DESIGN
All character designs and illustrations created by Meg Prisca. All characters belong to Shanastoryteller.
BACKGROUNDS
All of the backgrounds are traced from photos or google maps. I ain’t financially profiting in any way from this comic and didn’t want to spend another year creating backgrounds from scratch. Other people’s art/illustration was not used or referenced.

Why
————
I don’t need someone to tell me
What my purpose is
Or why I am here
I know the answer is the same
It is in the touch of a mother
The words of a friend
The smile of a stranger
The sight of a lover
It is us
We are why

Here
————
You are here
And isn’t it a miracle
To experience this
Here and now
is an improbability of infinite proportion
and yet
You are here
And isn’t it beautiful
To see the sunrise and know
that there have been a thousand before
and there will be a million after
and a trillion after that
You are here
And isn’t it a gift
That you have a mind
That can think
And feel
And appreciate
that though you are small in comparison to the universe
You are someone’s entire world
You care and are cared for
And you are here
You are here
————
Possibly the start of a series of poems called existential joy
