The chair is such a good bit, but also it shows that this thing, that was never human only given the characteristics of one, is actually trying very hard to be courteous.

Imagine him making this meeting with Colin, and then getting off the phone and thinking to himself, "What do people like? Well they do sit a lot. I hear they get tired from not sitting. Well I wouldn't want Colin to get tired. Should I get a chair?"

Then also imagine him going to a furniture store, picking out a chair, making sure it's comfy. Maybe even asking someone to sit in it to tell him if they like it. Balking at the price tag, looking around for anything else, then sighing and buying it anyway.

Only then to not meet Colin and have Alice too uncomfortable to sit in the chair. Like, that's what the chair is for, Alice. To keep you from being uncomfortable.
