Comparing the incentives and motivations behind each team in the SCF this year will never not amuse me.
There’s Edmonton, shouldering the expectations of not just its (international) fan base, but of every other Canadian who has been willing to temporarily shelve their team loyalty to rep the orange and blue in hopes of ending a 32 year old Canadian cup drought, a 10+ year career of mcdrai, millions upon millions of articles about ‘biological clocks’ and ‘wasted potential’ and ‘star centres that are still cupless’, Jeff Skinner’s first ever trip to the SCF after 15 seasons in the league, the devastating heartbreak of the 2024 season, the narratives of redemption, and comebacks, of believing, doing it for the guys who can’t be on the ice, for the sake of the pink pony club, etc
Then there’s Florida, all like, lol wouldn’t it be funny if we won twice in a row?
