well it’s safe to say i definitely forgot about this account! i have a gross habit of attempting to record my days and musings and either forgetting or losing motivation. and then, when i attempt to pick it back up again, i make it known that it is usual for me to forget and restart a good time later. like maintenant !
aaaanyways. a quick rundown of this semester is in order, i think! it is week fourteen at the minute, if i’m not mistaken. on mondays, wednesdays, and thursdays, i have (get this) Magic, Sorcery, and Witchcraft in Classical Civilizations and the World’s Religions; Roman Archaeology; and Introduction to Drama and Poetry (a french class). on tuesdays and thursdays, i have just my WGSS capstone class. every other tuesday or so this past semester i have also been meeting with one of the history professors for a directed study, and most every friday also includes a meeting for a linguistics research course.
i’d also like to mention my schedule for the coming semester, because i’m terribly excited and can’t wait for this semester to end and the summer to fly by! i will be taking, on mondays, wednesdays, and fridays, first italian 1 in the morning, quickly followed by a special topics course for french (which i’ve been told is going to be called the Morbid, Mysterious, and Macabre ((or something like that but in a different order)) (((or, le Morbide, Mystérieux, et Macabre))).) a short break will then give way for (get this !!!) latin 1!! mondays and wednesdays will also see me in dr. bell’s semantics course to start finishing up my linguistics major. on tuesdays and thursdays, i will be in just one class again (though it is an hour twenty long, and in the basement of one of the worst climate controlled buildings on campus) that is known to all as ‘1960s in the U.S.’. i am lowkey so glad i breezed through the gen-eds in highschool and the first few semesters here, because i have the ability now to have a semester dominated by language and literary analysis
in other news, today went by quite fast. i woke up fairly early and spent the majority of my morning trying to make more headway in the last book i was assigned for that aforementioned directed study. what appalling experiences detailed within!! a truly well written book, though, most definitely a page turner: at the dark end of the street by danielle L. mcguire. a good sort of antithesis (am i using this term correctly?) to elaine tyler may’s homeward bound. i then walked to my car (which i had to park, last night, a street away, due to the irritating and frustrating combination of the facts that my roommate moved her car up to our driveway and that there is construction scheduled all week on our one way street. so no street parking at the end of our driveway, i’m afraid!) and drove to class, wherein we have begun paper presentations. i saw another faculty, stokes, whom i haven’t seen since last semester, and finally put a face to the name that is risa. afterward i drove back and got some distance further in the book before heading to the dismal parking garage to get to the directed study. we talked about all sorts of things related to the amount of the book that i read, and then also got onto the topic of the beatles somehow.
when i got back, i began some laundry and really just waited for six thirty to come so that i could leave the apartment for the local cinema, at which there was to be a free showing of The Return (2024), introduced by and followed up by my aforementioned magic class professor. i left partway through the follow-up q&a to stop by work and get some ice cream, and i chatted a bit with my coworkers. we got in some little pot keychains and adorable new box sleeves !
to finish out the night, i watched the finale of daredevil: born again. insert that photo of scorsese with the caption ABSOLUTE CINEMA because, contrary to popular belief, i really liked this show. maybe i just have an optimistic outlook on media i consume when i have set already my expectations for it. but the radiohead needle drop at the end! and frank, my love, and karen, my other love! and dec, my other other love! and frank— wait, i said him already.. still! i eagerly anticipate the next season and hope it comes soon, though i know that /that/ will be a false hope.
in any case, here i am now, having spent the first half hour of today, the 16th, writing about what i did yesterday. hopefully this will take root in my daily habits (and hopefully i will do it on the right day) but, dear reader, don’t have any expectations along these lines yourself. no guarantees i’ll be back tomorrow, so à plus !

hey, i'm actually writing a post on the day it's meant for! wow
so today i woke up and wasn't really feeling breakfast so i think i just putzed around before leaving like an hour early. before that though i saw trisha's arm and it looks like she got a tattoo at the superbowl event last night?? weird
it was nice to take the tram in the morning by myself again. missed that
grammaire was ok this morning, i sat between pilar and carla again but i was like fighting for my life i was yawning like crazy!! i brought some of my spaghetti noodles from the other night for lunch, heated them up in the cafeteria, and went to bâtiment stendhal where lit was to eat my noodles tout seule. i got a tea from the vending machine, and not long after i sat back down did aia pop over and we chatted for a bit. malheureusement max also came over but he sat on teh other side of aia.
i was kind of dreading lit because every single class i've sat next to someone i don't like, so i was really hoping to a) sit closer to pilar & carla and b) not have max, sophie, or aaron sit next to me. i went to the bathroom quickly after setting down my stuff to fix my shirt and as i went back in the classroom i saw max going up the stairs, pausing at the table where my stuff was, and he went up a row! score. also funny lol. at least i got to sit by myself.
i took the tram partway home with aia, picked up my laptop and had a snack, and went to see brie to figure out my visa confirmation. turns out the one thing i didn't do was the one thing that solved it lmao
i went back to carrefour and fnac to browse because dad sent me 150$. got some snacks at carrefour... mini mozzarella included c: i tried to do the mini pizzas again with the mozzarellini and new sauce i got but i burnt most of the breads :( i still ate most of them. then, i took a shower. my bangs are starting to get a bit longer but it's the awkward phase where they won't fully sit straight but also they don't part well. boo
i did some crochet and watched grian's new hc video, and now i'm here in bed, writing this, and missing home. currently listening to take it easy by the eagles. i'm really sad that the living situation has turned out like this and that i'm really friendly with only two of the seven other people i'm here with, but i guess you have to make your own sunshine more often than not.
kt signing off for the night! sleep well, guys

forgot to write about sunday. on sunday
i didn't do a whole lot.. however, i did go out shopping for groceries bc i wanted to go back to the cheap carrefour. it turns out that the small snack size bag of haribo crocos is more expensive than the larger bag, so i took that opportunity quickly! i also got a zucchini, and some ramen noodles to cook for later. afterwards, i went to alsace casino to get a red pepper and also ended up grabbing a bottle of ketchup, some cherry tomatoes, and strawberries. the guy at the till commented on how everything was red lol. he also said that the total came out to 8€ something, so i pulled out the coins in my pocket and counted them before seeing i had like 7 something, so i went to put them away to grab my card or the 20 note i had in my phone. but the guy said non, non, c'est bon, and held out his hand so i just gave him all of my change. it was very nice, and i'm not necessarily complaining, but i kind of wanted the change so that i could do my laundry! oh well.
i think i just chilled out a bit more at the apartment before making some pasta with my chopped-up half pepper, half zucchini, and 4 cherry tomatoes. it was pretty good but i probably should've gotten some sauce or made sauce for it.
i then spent the rest of my night in bed finishing some subjunctive homework and a production écrite for grammaire. i went to sleep with nobody else in the room and it was very nice.

jour 32: 10 février
hey again! it's sunday so i'm recounting this from memory. today (saturday) was an excursion day, and our whole group went on a trip to the vercours mountain. we left at like 7;50 in the morning, so i was very tired. i sat by aia on the bus.
the first stop we went to was some castle ruins. there wasn't much there, but it was pretty high up one of the mountains, so there was a really nice view and it was pretty sunny. there were daisies throughout the field. i discovered that aia has read when you reach me and because of winn dixie.
after the castle ruins, we took the bus to this place called le grotte de choranche. our tour guide, vincent, explained to us that the vercours mountains are made of limestone, unlike the alps. because limestone is prone to water erosion, it's very porous and the mountains both crumble greatly over many years and are hollow! while the alps are made of limestone, they also consist greatly of other types of rock and continuously grow due to tectonic plate shifting. anyway-- le grotte de choranche is one of the many large caves inside the vercours mountains and it was beautiful. there were many many calcified stalagtites and stalagmites, and we took a tour of some of the bigger openings in the cave. there was even a lightshow in the second largest cave! additionally, there was natural running water that was so, so blue. it was beautiful, and i loved it.
after the caves, i think, was when i started to hit my wall. we took the bus to this little restaurant that all of us sat at, and while i did get to sit between aia and vincent, unfortunately max sat across from me. the appetizer was ok-- it was a choice between meat and cheese, so i chose the lesser of the two evils (cheese)-- and then there was some kind of ravioles for the main entrée. i think i've just had too much ravioles during my time here so i only ate about half the plate, i also filled up on bread lol. the real star of the show was the raspberry panna cotta that i had for dessert-- divine!!! i don't think i've had panna cotta before, but it was so creamy and delicious and the raspberry gel on top was really tasty.
rest of the day sucked museum of water blabla

to start off, i figured i would try and type out my days since writing them physically hasn't really been going well. i've skipped many days in my journal and couldn't really keep up with sending texts of my days to mom and dad. i don't think i'm really going to censor anything but i'll just be vague when the situation calls.
so, today is friday. we don't have classes on fridays, so aia and i usually go to the ste claire market in the morning. today we went with pilar, who lives pretty equidistant to the tram stop as we do. on the way over we went to the atm round the corner by the tourist office, only to find that both of them were hors de service :( in any case, i tucked that away for later, because we went into the market and everyone got a tart. last week, i got a tarte aux fruits mélangée, but this week i saw the fraise one so i just had to get it.
we were kind of aimlessly walking around after getting our tartes, but then i remembered that trisha got weird pink tp and i've heard that dyes aren't safe in tp so i don't want to take chances. so i asked if we could go to the casino that was really close to look for regular white tp, and lo and behold, none!! contrary to popular belief, i'm finding it really hard to get a four-pack of regular white toilet paper. aia then suggested that there's a carrefour around here somewhere, so we set on our way for that.
we got a bit tied up at tower coffee for like two hours and i got really fatigued while we were there. it was almost 1, and we'd been out since 10:30, so i ended up eating my tarte. i really wish i had gotten a photo of it, but it's fine, i guess. it was really good and i miss strawberries. i haven't seen any like anywhere since i got them that one time at casino.
once we dipped from tc, we set back out on our journey to find this carrefour. get this-- there was regular, white, non-dyed, non-scented toilet paper! woo hoo!! i got a six pack, which i guess is fine, along with two sugarfree monsters (at 1,80€ each, which is astounding!! lowest price i've seen yet.), some apple juice boxes, and a small thing of haribo crocos (1,68€... the tabac ones, same size, are 2,20€!)
on our way back to victor hugo aia suggested i try the atm there while they looked for the nut guy by les galéries. they didn't find him, and i was able to withdraw some cash for the excursion tomorrow. money freaks me the fuck out, man. these exchange rates are crazy and i'm so weirded out because i can't get a job here even if i wanted to.
i sat in the bedroom for a bit after i got back, and then decided to make the rest of the ravioli that's been sitting in the fridge for a few days. i had that and then some of my salt and vinegar chips on the side for a late lunch at like 3:30 something.
sooo i'm continuing this from memory on dimanche 11 février bear with me
i don't really remember what i did in between late lunch and the evening, but at 7pm i met aia and waited for emilio and caleb in the lobby so that we could go to the tram for, get this, a showing of la la land at a local theater! it was scheduled for 7:30 but a) i wanted to see how the ticket process was like and if we could use our fancy newfangled student id's for discounts and b) i wanted to be early enough so that it wouldn't be sold out. unfortunately though, tickets were bought on kiosks. also, the showing was sold out! however there was one other showing in town that we decided last minute to go to as it was at 8pm and we were only like a 15min tram ride away.
once we got there, we discovered through the kiosks that the showing we initially were going to see was a VOST showing: version originale sous-titré, or the original version with french subtitles. the one we were at now was VF: version française, or dubbed french! personally, i was a bit excited, because this is one of my favorite movies and i really wanted to see it on the big screen. i didn't really care about the audio except for the music. however, emilio and caleb are both not the highest in their french proficiency (B1.1 and A2, respectively) but they were both willing to see it anyways, which i appreciated. caleb was the only one who hadn't seen it before, so i can only imagine what that must've been like to see it for the first time!
the movie was really good, and a bit weird in that the songs were actually their original versions, just subbed french. i guess the dub actors didn't want to sing lol. there was like a 20 minute portion at the beginning of some guy that runs the theatre talking about the movie and stuff... i don't know but i was really bored of him.
after the movie, and it was like 10:30 almost 11 by then, we decided to go get food at a burger place nearby called point b. i got a burger meal (burger, drink, fries) for just 5€! not too bad, and it was also tasty! we then rode the tram home and of course all the doors were closed and lights off so i called my grandma quickly before heading to bed.
