gen 1-4 of my short lifespan legacy

started gen 1 with cara min, a career-focused woman who entered into a relationship with leo slade. she got pregnant early with her daughter, emily, despite not really being ready for a child. her partner, however, assured her that they could 'do this' and so she went on to have the baby. she and leo married, continued to focus on her career, and was quite strict in raising emily. cara and leo decided to try for a second (and final) child now that they were more secure in their careers (and relationship) and they soon welcomed henry to the family. the parents were a lot more lenient with henry than they were emily. cara later unexpectedly became pregnant with third (and truly final) child, kurtis.

emily moved out soon after reaching young adulthood, enrolling in university (for a degree i now forget). she quickly married high school sweetheart lucas munch, with whom she had a daughter, ainsley. emily truly believed life was perfect, that the coldness of her past was to make room for all this warmth. life had other plans for her, though, when husband lucas fell sick soon after they decided to start trying to a second child. emily and ainsley could do nothing as lucas deteriorated over the next few years before ultimately succumbing to his illness. emily raised ainsley alone for years, before eventually finding love again with longtime best friend tarik brown. emily and tarik then went on to have two sons, august and amos.

amos' was the messiest generation so far. the mess started in his teenage years, as he carelessly played with girls' hearts. he didn't care for commitment, believing he had his whole life to settle down with someone. among his many flings was mckenna greenburg, widely believed by amos' friends to be the one girl that could change him. and perhaps that would have been true, had sade hill, another fling, not turned up at his door claiming to be pregnant. initially, amos wanted nothing to do with sade or the child. they were both too young, and if sade wanted to keep the baby, then he was leaving it to her. emily and tarik later found out about the pregnancy when sade's parents called to berate them for how they raised their son, and soon invited sade to stay in their spare bedroom when they discovered she had been kicked out by her parents. in the meantime, amos continued with his careless lifestyle, spending time with girls that wanted more than he would give them. as time went on, however, as sade lived under the same roof, the pair grew cloer, and amos eventually admitted he did want to be in their child's life, but he was afraid that his age would prevent him from being a good father and provider for the child. he, sade, and his parents sat down to form a plan for life after baby's birth, which included the two continuing high school while emily and tarik took care of their child, to give themselves a better chance for the future. amos and sade's relationship developed to the point that amos actually cut off the other girls and promised sade that he would be committed to her for as long as she wanted him. they started dating, and were engaged by the time sade gave birth to their son, beckett brown.

when the pair aged into young adults, they moved into a house bought for them by amos' parents and quickly married. amos entered the athletic career while sade decided to pursue a university degree. for a while, things seemed... wholesome, normal. but amos' past self reared its ugly head and he soon started an affair with a neighbour. then a woman he met online. he knew it was wrong, knew his parents would be wholly disappointed in him, but he couldn't bring himself to stop. he didn't love sade like he desperately wanted to. he just didn't.

things got worse when sade discovered she was pregnant. amos went through the same song and dance as last time, cutting off his affair partners, promising that this time he would be loyal to his partner. they welcomed everly into the family, a perfect baby girl, and things again seemed normal. until, that is, his ex-affair partner turned up with her own baby in tow, claiming amos to the be father of her daughter, rosemary. sade was, understandably, furious. she couldn't believe amos would hurt their family like this. they argued, amos demanded a dna test and begged the sim gods that the child wasn't his, the arguing got worse when he was revealed to be the father. he started paying child support and sleeping on the sofa. sade didn't know what to do... and then tarik passed away. amos lost himself in his grief, and sade told him they could work through this. but amos wasn't sure he wanted to. he went out drinking more often, ignored his wife's concern, promised her that he was fine, that they would be fine. then emily passed. amos hadn't yet processed the loss of his father, and now his mom was gone too? how cruel. was this karma? probably. did that stop him from going out drinking? no. and that's where things change, because at the bar, amos reunites with mckenna. she approaches him as an old friend, the girl that he would have loved if given the chance, and they talk. she tells him about her life, her career in education, and he tells her about his. about how he felt trapped in his marriage to sade, how he knew he was a bad guy for how he'd hurt her, but he couldn't bring himself to stop. he loved his kids, he cared for sade, but he didn't want to be married to her. he didn't want to spend the rest of his life with her, but he didn't know how to tell her.

amos and mackenzie's relationship shifts from old friends to something more quickly. they're drinking. she's trying to comfort him, knows how much he loved his parents, how their approval meant everything to him. then, he kisses her, and they both know they should pull away but they don't. it happens often. they meet up at this bar, and each time they assure themselves it's simply as friends, but they always cross the line. one night, amos gets too drunk. it's his mom's birthday, and he spends it with mackenzie. so, she takes him home. she knows she shouldn't, knows she's crossing a line, but part of her needs to see it. his home, his family. it needs to be real for her. but sade sees her, remembers her, and she knows. surprisingly, it's amos who brings up divorce a few days later, after a catastrophic fight and an ensuing silent treatment. they're not happy. she deserves better and he needs to be better. so they divorce. he lets her keep the house and moves into an apartment. beckett, now a teenager, chooses to go with him, whereas everly chooses to stay with her mom. amos decides to pursue a more stable relationship with his daughter, rosemary.

eventually, amos and mckenna become an official couple. quicker than they should have, but no one is surprised when it happens. beckett and everly are, understandably, cautious at first. they're reluctant to like her, but it happens, slowly. they move from sanmy to oasis springs when mckenna finds out she's pregnant. the house is big, with enough room for all of amos' children. everly and rosemary visit often. in mckenna's second trimester, rosemary's mother passes away, and she moves in with the couple. they later marry and welcome twins, bowie and ryder into the world. the pregnancy was hard on mckenna, who'd always wanted a child of her own. so hard, that when she fell pregnant again towards the end of the twins' infanthood, she was scared of what would happen. she did, ultimately, decide to keep the baby... a son, lincoln. despite his track record, amos remains faithful to mckenna.

perhaps it was karma for amos that one of his children would follow his path. perhaps even more that that child was his daughter, bowie. now, bowie didn't run away from commitment like her father. in fact, bowie was madly in love with her boyfriend, odin. but neither of them were ready for a child, that much was obvious. so, with her parents' and odin's blessing, bowie gave her child, a son named chase, up for adoption. it was hard, and sad, but bowie was confident she made the right choice. she and odin broke up shortly before they graduated high school, knowing their dreams were taking them in opposite directions, and that was that. no drama, no heartache. just two kids choosing themselves.

bowie and ryder grew up as best friends, so it's not surprising they chose to enrol in university in mt. komorebi together. with their parents' help (and money, did someone say nepo babies?) they moved into a small home. they made friends, studied, and eventually found love. ryder met and fell in love with gabriella marino, a computer science major like himself, whereas bowie fell for itsuki saito, a music major with big dreams like her. things progressed smoothly for both couples. their love interests moved in at the beginning of their final year of university, bowie adopted a cat, and when they graduated, they chose to stay in mt. komorebi. ryder and gabriella soon went on to have a son, alexander, around the time itsuki proposed to bowie. bowie and itsuki didn't take long to plan their wedding. they were soulmates, bowie was certain of it. for a while, it was just the two of them, but they did soon start trying for a baby. they were successful, and bowie soon found out she was pregnant with another boy. this brought up memories of her past pregnancy, and how she dreaded it entirely. it was around this time that she received a call from an unknown number claiming to be her son. now, bowie had kept in contact with chase's family over the years. curiosity often got the better of her, and she just wanted to know her once-child was growing up happy. she knew that it was a matter of time, that chase would eventually reach out to her, but talk about timing. so, they met up, and they talked, and chase understood why she had to give him up all those years ago. he hoped they could keep talking, she said the same. he was invited back to visit when bowie gave birth to her son, tamaki. bowie and itsuki have since gone on to have a second son, haruto.
