if there is one president who i think deserves to come back to beat the shit out of the current regime and it's not theodore roosevelt (a valid choice though).
but no. in my opinion it's ulysses s grant.
the man has been slandered to hell and back for over a century by neo-confederates that seek to romanticize the antebellum south and have perpetuated the lost cause myth.
the current administration is dishonoring and dismantling this man's legacy and what he gave to the country.
the general that defeated the confederacy
established yellow stone national park in 1872 which would be 30 years before teddy roosevelt became president
established the department of justice to carry out the enforcements acts of 1870 and 1871. they're commonly known as the ku klux klan acts. effectively destroying that iteration of the klan and it wouldn't emerge again until the 1920s
supported the 15th amendment which was ratified early in his administration. the amendment that prevents the denial of a citizen's vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
he sent federal troops to the american south during reconstruction to protect the newly freed slaves and their rights.
established the civil service commission which was meant to counter the patronage issues by hiring based on merit.'
on a more personal level grant was probably one of the better individuals to hold the office of the president despite his flaws and mistakes. compared to recent events the corruption that occurred during his administration seem almost quaint.
just to round it out
he deeply loved his wife julia and their children
had experienced poverty multiple times in his life
wrote his memoir while dying of throat cancer to ensure his family had money after his passing (he'd been the victim of a ponzi scheme)
he was a horse girl
put in the work to redeem himself for issuing order number 11 which expelled jews from his military district due to involvement in cotton speculation. he later admitted his action was hasty and the rescinding of the order was well deserved. he also provided this banger of a speech at the annual reunion of the army of the tennessee in des moines, iowa in 1875:

I am forever grateful to an archivist mentor I worked with in grad school for some resume advice she gave me and thought maybe others would also benefit from it.
Keep a Master Resume.
This is not the resume you send out. This is a detailed resume of every job (with dates and location, supervisor and location phone number are a bonus) and as many skills/duties/accomplishments you can possibly think of for each and every one of the jobs and education programs you can think of.
She showed me hers, it was about 25 pages long, and formatted exactly like a regular resume for ease. Every time she would learn a new program/skill, she'd add it. Change in title or duties, add it. Complete something big/special/complicated/new to her/professionally significant, she would add it. This way when she went up for a promotion or raise, she had a detailed record of highlights to pick from to show she deserved it. There was no "when was that? Did I submit that last round of reviews?"
Applying to a new job? Pick and choose items from your Master Resume to plug in to the resume or CV you will be sending based on the job posting. You don't need to rewrite it, just cut and paste relevant details.

Did you know that horses are still used for logging? Not just as a way to keep traditional handicrafts alive, but because horses are genuinely better at some jobs than machines?


Horses are much gentler on sensitive ecosystems, they're more flexible in rocky terrain, and they don't topple over on a hillside.
They can enter dense forests and drag out one specific tree without damaging the other trees and without compacting or eroding the soil.
They also run on hay instead of gas or electricity. Horses don't pollute the ecosystem with either oil leaks, gas stench, or noise.
