Indiecade and Relaunch!
Hey everyone! I've received several comments regarding the recent relaunch of my website. Thank you all for the kind comments. A little persistence in Dreamweaver goes a long way!
I learned a few things in Adobe After Effects as well- I created the new splash video that accompanies the front page of my website. I am satisfied with the outcome, and may revisit it again someday.
This weekend, I went to Indiecade in Culver City. If you saw a short bearded man with "IV Music" on a T-shirt, you probably saw me. Unless you saw my doppelganger, he has been known to fool with people. But Indiecade- what a blast! I saw some awesome games and tech, but I met some equally awesome people too- such as the composer for There Came an Echo, Jimmy Hinson- better known as Big Giant Circles. I met other peers including Akash Thakkar, sound designer of Hyper Light Drifter; Ryan Ike, composer of Gunpoint; and reunited with my friend Jacob Pernell, sound designer of Sam Farmer's Last Life game. Other cool introductions included one Clifton B of Czarcade; Asher Vollmer, creator of Threes and Puzzlejuice; and Siena Leslie and Vicky Hsu, the creators of Habit RPG. I hope to cross paths with all of these people again. Going to Indiecade was an awesome experience, and I will definitely be going again. Never have I felt more confident and energized from a gathering of indie peers. The outlook from here on out is a good one.
Also, Sportsball looks amazing!

"Unintentionally Awesome" Completed
Hey everyone!
I have finished scoring the upcoming comedy web series titled "Unintentionally Awesome." Yes, I said "comedy." For this project, I have a much more upbeat sound to my music.
You'll soon be able to hear the music for yourself when the series goes live. My friend Casey Mitsch, who edited the series, has just turned in his final versions of the videos. I am unsure about the actual release date, but I will post here again once the site has the videos online.
Thanks for your support, and I hope you enjoy my work on the project.

Recruiting an Army, Inquire Within
This past weekend, "Jill and Jack" debuted in Glendale, California and the film is officially on its way to Sundance. I've got a copy of the film, and hopefully in due time I can upload the film or excerpts of it to show online. Meeting up with the cast and crew was a pleasure.
But still, I think that I can do even better than I did with "Jill and Jack." Don't get me wrong, I'm very proud of what I did and the collaboration I did with Nick Brady. But working with Nick's guitar strumming made me realize the power true instrumentation can have in a sequenced score. It is common to have a combination of digital instruments and real instruments in a film score these days. I may not have a real orchestra at my disposal, but there is an alternative: recording instrumentalists and adding them to a digital orchestra.
I may not have unlocked every secret of EastWest's orchestral libraries (Hollywood Brass is great, by the way) but one thing that I know I can do is "humanize" my music. So come one and all. If you play an instrument and you're good at it, I want to know you and your talent.

Jill and Jack, SoundCloud, and Server Migration
First things first.
I'm nearing the completion of another score, this one entitled "Jill and Jack," an independent, prospectively Sundance-bound film which takes place in the Korean War. I'm very excited about it. The first draft of the score was completed last week, with final revisions being completed over the course of this week. I'm looking forward to sharing it, I have created approximately 19 minutes of music (not including end title song), which is by the far the most work I have done for one film. "Jill and Jack" is directed by John Conley and co-written by Joy Villa, and produced by Christopher McDonald. Nick Brady of Emissary provided guitars for the score and end title song.
Secondly. For my website, I was using a custom player to show off my music. After some testing, I've heard that it was not quite obvious that the player would appear upon a mouse hover-over. To make it more obvious, I've switched to the SoundCloud player which will also better integrate that service with this website. Thanks Nick (also responsible for web design and such) for making this all happen.
Thirdly, the website itself is undergoing a server migration. Any technical issues will be resolved throughout the week now that I've switched my hosting provider to the blazing fast SSD Nodes. Sit tight, folks, and enjoy the music.

New Film Score in Progress
This week, I'm taking a break from my normal routine of working on music for iStock to score a film. I had the privilege of seeing it filmed last month, and despite all its technical issues, the film is looking great.
While this post is a bit vague in its content, I am keeping things under wraps until I have completed the project and will release the score (so long as I have permission to do so). This film is prospectively going to a film festival, and having work from the film online--to my knowledge--disqualifies the film.
This film, without a doubt, may have some of my best music to date and I am eagerly looking forward to sharing my completed work. Until then, feel free to check out my previous work at youtube.com/isaacvail, including the last film I scored!
