1) Fell down the stairs (I hadn’t even inhaled to cry before he got to me),

2) When I got a preying mantis in my hair and started screaming (he was in the house, and I was 50 yards away from the front door),

3) When a fucking gigantic rattlesnake lookalike slithered by my summer-bare legs,

4) How even now, over 40, my voice pitched at just the right tone of panic or tears on my face will kick his 73 year old self into “PROTECC” mode,

And according to the Lore:

4) How he refused to leave me tiny, fresh-born side as the hospital whisked new me away until he SAW them put on the CORRECT named wrist-band.

tolkien being such a bad driver edith refused to ride in the car with him driving

young tolkien and edith dropping sugar cubes on the heads of passerby from the second story of a tea room

tolkien and lewis going to a non-costume party dressed as polar bears

tolkien almost ending his friendship with lewis because he hated santa claus making an appearance in narnia so much

tolkien’s entire writing group except for lewis fucking hating his writing because of all the elves

literally everyone hating going for walks with tolkien because he would stop and stare at every tree he passed for like 20 minutes

tolkien owning a goblet with the black speech (that he made up) on it and refusing to drink out of it because it’s an “accursed language”

tolkien inventing the “one ring to rule them all” verse while in the bathtub and jumping out

tolkien dressing up as an anglo saxon warrior and chasing his neighbors down the street with an axe

tolkien entering the room shouting beowulf in old english at his students the first day of classes

tolkien convincing his class that leprechauns were real

tolkien stealing a city bus while attending oxford and taking his friends for a joy ride

tolkien being a savage replying to a letter from the nazis

tolkien hating the beatles with a passion and refusing to let them make a lotr movie

tolkien hating his crazy american fans and calling them his “deplorable cultus”

if you ever find yourself thinking “wow I scraped the bottom of the barrel with my energy with that and came out okay!” that’s the devil talking. you did not come out okay. you borrowed energy from the future. you will repay it if you don’t rest and replenish the borrowed energy first.

My fucking cat has figured out how to gently dig his claws into my eyelid and pull my eyes open while I'm sleeping. He does this. It does not hurt. He is remarkably precise and gentle. I however am asleep when it happens and do not appreciate being clockwork oranged by a needy clingy goddamn animal who thinks he needs attention.

On this excellent day, be aware that this is the largest group of freshwater lakes in the world, covering over 95,000 square miles and reaching depths of over a thousand feet. They are beautiful freshwater seas.

Also when you die in these lakes, the very cold, oxygen-poor conditions at the bottom preserves you perfectly for all eternity. You will not rot and nothing will eat you. You will exist for as long as the Great Lakes do. Many shipwrecks still have the crew on board. Be Aware.
