I did something fun

As a fun experiment I organized the Taylor Swift albums on my Apple Music by number of plays per song to compare against the set list for the Eras tour (highlighted are songs from night 1)

Notice that my most played songs per each album are almost never the singles? I love Taylor for including the deep cuts because she’s performing my most played song on almost every album! I literally never dreamed she’d play Marjorie live.

Before people start looking at my stats… Fearless and Red aren’t technically correct because I deleted the OG albums once the TV’s came out so the # of listens from the OG — AREN’T ACCOUNTED FOR. I’ve also cropped the photos just to her set list selections so like obviously I have the entire speak now album but she only did one song and it’s my most played song, so it’s cropped there.

All fun and games until I remember I never got a presale code, therefor I do not currently have tickets and I am checking daily for someone who’s not greedy to reasonably price their resale tickets so I can go…… or someone rich buy me tickets please. I was at 1989 and Rep tour so I’m still still upset that Ticketmaster didn’t give me a verified fan code, I thought I’d get general sale tickets at least.

Whatever show I end up getting to go to I hope our secret song is either Out of the Woods or Breathe or The Way I Love You

Don’t call me crazy… but I’m 100% positive that Taylor is gonna be dropping the remaining 4 Taylor’s Version re-records within the next 5 months. She’s not going on a tour called “the eras tour” for no reason… midnights is a record breaking album, she very easily could have sold out a “Midnights tour” with no problem… the eras tour is going to be promoting her re-recorded catalog. I would literally bet my life savings on this theory…

Taylor Collab?

I might be just the slightest bit buzzed so I haven’t completely thought this through, but I’m currently listening to my music library on shuffle, and a song came up....

What do you think about a Taylor Swift x Jason Mraz collab? Like part of me is wondering why that hasn’t happened already... so maybe on a Speak Now TS vault track or a new album collab. I’m not sure, but now I’m fixated on this happening...

should I be in A&R? I think, maybe..?

I thought that general on sale was just postponed until tm sorted out their system to prevent more issues… but since it’s been this long, now I’m realizing I actually might not get to see the eras tour…

Like put aside the nightmare of that situation for a second, did they literally sell all of the tickets during the presale? I seriously can’t comprehend the logic behind making tickets for the entire stadium available during a presale. Why? Literally why? Tm being a monopoly isn’t the frustrating part to me, it’s that they’re a dumb monopoly.

Part of me hopes whatever tickets are remaining, Taylor’s team has pulled from tm and will give them to actual fans who didn’t get “verified” (which btw, also bullshit—how does my ticket history on my tm account make me look like a bot or scalper? Truly no logic to the tm decision making processes)

Theory 1: She’s telling us speak now is the next TV because that’s the only one that doesn’t have an emoji/color combo. She started the announcement with “I’m enchanted”…

Theory 2: ain’t no way blondie can fit her hits from 10 albums into a single show so I think she will have a modular show where each night has rotating albums based on the openers who will set the mood… I.E. in Chicago her set list will be fearless and red focused with other songs sprinkled in… this theory is crazy and doesn’t explain where speak now fits in but like a concert set list is 15-25 songs so like how in the world is she gonna be able to pick the songs from her massive hits list… WHILE ALSO INCLUDING SOME DEEP CUTS?!?!?

So Mary Elizabeth Ellis (married to the sexiest man alive btw) is in the Anti Hero video as Taylor’s daughter (maybe daughter in law?) anyways… she makes a comment about Taylor willing her the beach house…

Now I know I am not the only person who thinks Mary Elizabeth Ellis looks exactly like Carly Rae Jepsen…

I am always honest about my opinions about. I love her more than the world and will support her forever and always but I still like to be honest.

I’m curious if Taylor is consulting with like a small group of fans about he re-records. Obviously this is her music and she doesn’t need anyone telling her what to do, but I think it would be awesome if she had a fan or a small group of long time fans who could help give feedback and articulate the things about her precious music the love so much so that she can try to honor the sentimental values we hold over the originals. Once again, not control how she does her re records but in many creative fields feedback is welcomed and it’s up to her what she does and doesn’t listen to.

I personally am very surprised and happy about Love Story. For some reason I was thinking that she was going to try to modernize the tracks too much but it does feel pretty authentic to the original, especially vocally. I’d say my one piece of criticism is that it’s missing a little bit of the “smoothness” in the string instruments, the guitar at the beginning and the violin throughout it feel a little bit “pluckey” giving it a more intense country vibe. Love story for me was all about the fairytale and whimsy of the song that I think was conveyed through this very smooth progression of string sounds that I think the new one is missing a little bit. But that’s so minor that it doesn’t bother me.

I have much stronger feelings about the artwork but that’s cause I’m an art director in music so I’m overly critical so I’ll keep those comments to myself. Hahaha

I love you Taylor, I love that you’re doing this and I can’t wait for all the albums!! @taylorswift @taylornation

folklore—initial feelings

I’m so tired but I need to get this out while the first listen, and initial feelings are still fresh.  It’s super important to note that the official genre of the album is categorized as alternative, which I did not notice until 5 songs in, and was definitely have changed my perception of those songs had I known that first.  The simplest way to sum up the essence of the album is to say it’s poetic, but that doesn’t quite emphasize the actual stunningness of the lyrics. This is by far her most creative, raw, and delicate album yet. It is also the most well packaged album to date, with every song fitting just perfectly—except for Betty but I’ll get to that in a second.  The lyrics are very heavy which I think makes the gentle melodies just write to pair them with.  A couple of stand out songs to talk about. I did not enjoy cardigan right away, wasn’t expecting that, didn’t realize it was supposed to be alternative, from a pop perspective I was thinking it was a huge miss, however my feelings have changed now that I know what to expect. Exile. I’m dead. I felt my heart shrivel up inside by body, and the red tissue go dull. It killed me. What an incredible gorgeous song. Forget that Taylor is a popstar, exile is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that has manifested in the last century. Esily my favorite song. Second favorite song was epiphany. I have absolutely no idea what she’s singing about, nor can I grasp at the story behind the lyrics. But I truthfully don’t care one little bit because it is the most graceful songs I’ve ever heard. It had me feeling like I my brain was just filled with clouds and I was floating in the sky. The only word to describe it is ethereal.  Lastly Betty. The song that absolutely does not fit on this album, but believe you me if could be copy and pasted right onto fearless or speak now and you would have no idea. Taylors country twang in her voice awakens, the song had me feeling so nostalgic, I can’t help but wonder if the song was actually an unreleased song from that era. It sounds like she’s singing about a potential summer-gay affair she experimented with which makes me love the song even more because it addresses nuances of gay-baiting which I don’t think is the most serious of issues we face in the world, and the song does show a degree of self-awareness that’s admirable.  Job well done, Taylor. This album may or may not break record sales or have #1 singles on the billboard chart for weeks on end, but it highlights your talent, which does not go unnoticed. And the fact that you stuck to your guns with such an alternative musical expression show your passion and dedication to your craft. I’m so proud to be one of your fans! Keep doing everything that you do!

My friend and I just had a like 4 hour conversation analyzing Taylor’s discography and we discovered something truly miraculous.

Fearless was about the illusion of love. Fairytales, and expectations of what love will feel like. The desire to feel love.

Speak now was a continuation of that, but also the introductory stages of early relationships. The first experiences she had with love, or witnessed.

Red was about the her first heartbreaks, first-hand experiences, as well as the first passionate relationships she’d been in.

1989 was about heartbreak, but more so about betrayal.

Reputation covered two stages. First, getting even or payback/redemption. The second, dipping her toes back in the water to something that may be real.

Lover is the sequel to the second half of reputation and is the culmination of all her experiences leading up to a real kind of love. All her experiences lead her to being able to find what she’d been searching for the whole time. Love is golden.

Whether she knew it along the way or not; Taylor’s music shows a really beautiful evolution of the discovery of love.
