Perceptions of the Dead 2

Was released this summer and is available both on Steam and Itch.io. Second story – Undercover Undead

Work on the second story for the game is well underway. We’ve received a few hundred voice lines from our current roster of awesome VA’s, and auditions for extras for the story are also underway.

As with all Perceptions of the Dead games, there will be a good amount of experimentation with visual storytelling.

Some extra sprite poses have been made for Tulip, who features as a main character in the second story. The lovely Lauren Kawamura did a particularly great job on the voices for her, and was so animated in doing so that I wanted the sprite to at least try to keep up with her.

Other sprites may see some updated poses as well, time will tell! Tulip, in particular, is easy to do extra poses for since she has only 1 outfit and 1 hairstyle, so any extra art positions or body positions don’t immediately result in cumulatively large amounts of required work.

That, paired with Ren’Py having a newly released Layered Sprite system, left me wanting to try to take advantage of extra animated sprites.

Composed by the everlovely Johnathan Johnson. It contains 23 songs that you’ve heard from the game, and at least one that hasn’t yet made an appearance.

Auditions for extra characters for story 2, Undercover Undead, are underway and the script has been added into Ren’Py as coding begins.

It's a goofy, spooky story about a live-streamer that's trying to locate a ghost hunter to help her out with a haunting problem.

There are quite a few familiar voices in it that you may have heard in our other games, as well as some new voice actors who are just as lovely, and Johnathan Johnson returns as the composer with an awesome soundtrack for the game.

Fully voiced visual novel with short, animated clips to enhance the story.

Early 2017, we released a Kickstarter for visual novel “Women of Xal”. It was comfortably funded! In short, you play as the woman Xjena as she eyes the title of Matriarch: A position of power that would make her one of the most powerful people in the world. To earn the seat, she must prove herself worthy to the current Matriarch, Xuna. It’s a moral roller coaster filled with decisions that trickle down, emotions run high, relationships grow and burn, and plenty of ways to die! If this all sounds like something you’d like to try, we’re offering two entirely different demos –free to download and play– right on our Patreon page! It also comes with a few more details.

Yes! Two entirely different demos that convey two entirely different experiences, art, music, and timeline. The “Kickstarter/Lore” demo was made late 2016, released early 2017, and acted as a concept for what the final game could end up like if fully funded. It explores the lore and characters a little more, faster-paced but isn’t canon. For the Patreon release, we’ve moved to an entirely different engine and has allowed us to squeeze in way more features, as well as being far more functional. More endings, balanced music, and a plethora of quality of life updates.

The “Official/Canon” demo was started 2017 and released this April (2018) with new art, music, and even tone as it’s now playing the long game in terms of showing its lore, character motivations, and storyline. It’s far more representative of what to expect for the full game’s release.

“If your Kickstarter was funded, why does your project want more money?”

Long story short: The Kickstarter paid for what we needed. Although yes, we could most certainly finish the game and have it out with or without the Patreon, the Patreon will determine whether or not the voice actors everyone loved in the Women of Xal Kickstarter/Lore demo make a reappearance in the final product. And for the cutscenes to work the way we envision, we definitely need the voice actors! You can find the Patreon link below if you want to support us for a while!

In 2011, Tyrone left home to pursue a life as an Acolyte, a Paranormal Problem Solver. Since then he has fought horrors and saved both lives and unlives.  

Today, he’s missing.

In October of 2017, Jill Count held an IRL streaming event from within the haunted hospital of Saint Heart. The events there left her forever changed, and able, now, to see ghosts.  

Haunted by the ghost of a young man she met there, Jill travels to find Tyrone, hoping he can help her.

Finding him missing, she is quickly roped into helping save him.  

Little does she know what she is actually walking into.

Perceptions of the Dead 2 is the continuation of the stories that began in ‘The Phantom Ice Cream Truck’ and were eventually compiled in the collection Perceptions of the Dead, which is available for free on Steam.
