˗ˏˋ —— ⋆ wait, did you see who just walked through washington park? i swear it was judah ryu… what, you don’t know them? they look a lot like gong yoo, but i heard that they are a forty year old cis man (he/him) that has been in portland for nine years. apparently, they are also a witch who works at avalon law group as a partner & attorney, and their reputation of being longanimous & reticent is noted by residents from all over the city. but what can you actually believe listening through the grapevine? don’t worry, we’ll be able to find out just who they really are when we see them in portland next.

𝘽𝙄𝙊𝙂𝙍𝘼𝙋𝙃𝙔

born in seoul in 1982 as ryu seungyeon. at age 10, he moved with his parents and older sister susannah to bergen county, nj

the family started out in a predominantly-human town, but moved to a city with far more supernatural species not long after.

he was a diligent student, both at the urging of his parents and because he knew it would take a lot if he wanted to be a lawyer or attorney.

pregnancy tw: his older sister got pregnant when she was 18. 

helped take care of his sister’s kid as they grew up, even as he entered college

went to college for pre-law, attended law school, was a junior associate at a top new york law firm after he passed the bar. there were a few supernaturals here and there at the firm, but the overwhelming majority were humans.

car accident tw, death mention tw: susannah and her husband got into an accident and unfortunately both of them were killed.

later he found himself the guardian of his sister’s two children. they were in portland at the time, and judah dropped everything, including his cushy nyc job, to be with them. thankfully he’d taken the oregon state bar previously and was able to find a job with avalon law group.

he feels more comfortable at avalon, and is happy to help supernaturals in need

𝙃𝙀𝘼𝘿𝘾𝘼𝙉𝙊𝙉𝙎

inspired by carlisle cullen, chidi anagonye, dr. james wilson

after their arrival in new jersey, his family wanted to blend in with the humans around them as best as they could, so they joined the local protestant church, attended mass on sundays, and had a private “bible study” group. most notably, though, they all took on english names derived from the bible. he chose judah because it sounds like 주다, a korean verb meaning “to give.” the name has just kind of. stuck with him over the years. never gotten around to legally changing his name, though.

his loyalties still ultimately lie with the coven he was born into, which is why he hasn’t considered joining the local coven in portland, even though he’s established himself in the city.

inspired to become an attorney bc of the immigration lawyer he met when he was a kid. he didn’t end up going into immigration law, though, bc being corporate lawyer makes way more money, and he wanted to make enough to support his parents. he always sets aside money to send to them.

was always drawn to water, so his affinity for the element when his powers first manifested did not surprise his family in the slightest. people often joked that if they didn’t already know he was a witch, they would have thought he was a merman or something.

usually very calm and sometimes a bit stoic, but he’s just as capable of being ruthless, though that side of him really only presents itself in the courtroom. so, in that sense, even his personality is like water.

lived in irvington when he first came to portland, but has since moved into healy heights in southwest hills.

𝙒𝘼𝙉𝙏𝙀𝘿 𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙉𝙀𝘾𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉𝙎

sending to the main shortly his niece/nephew/sister’s eldest child (a few more details will be in the wc, but they’re a 24 year old witch or human, and i headcanon that judah is close with them. of course, that could always be changed with plotting!)

toying with the idea of him having a familiar... like how would a witch who has knowledge of the law and looking for loopholes approach a “contract” with a familiar

˗ˏˋ —— ⋆ wait, did you see who just walked through washington park? i swear it was nicolette “cole” behringer… what, you don’t know them? they look a lot like zoë kravitz, but i heard that they are a thirty-two year old nonbinary (she/they) that has been in portland for six months. apparently, they are also a human who works at home as a writer, and their reputation of being visionary & awkward is noted by residents from all over the city. but what can you actually believe listening through the grapevine? don’t worry, we’ll be able to find out just who they really are when we see them in portland next.

𝘽𝙄𝙊𝙂𝙍𝘼𝙋𝙃𝙔 

born and raised in the big city, cole has never felt they were a city person. it was always too loud, too busy, too much. they constantly yearned to live in a place with nature (and solitude) closer to them.

always enjoyed reading and writing, but was quite reserved and hesitant to show their work. some of their teachers encouraged them to enter writing competitions in middle and high school, and they won a few awards. 

they didn’t really want to go to college, but everyone around them insisted they go nonetheless. so, after high school, they studied english and earned their bachelor’s

did some solo traveling after graduation before settling back in their hometown (or city, rather)

came into money after writing a new adult modern fantasy novel a few years ago. it was meant to be a standalone book, but was so wildly successful that cole was urged to turn the book into a series. there are currently three books in the anthology, and it’s expected to have at least a two more

last year, she was hit with writer’s block and couldn’t move forward with her next book. eventually, she decided to rent a cabin in the woods in oregon, hoping it would help her find inspiration. other than venturing into the city once, maybe twice a week, all her time was spent in their cabin.

ended up enjoying their time in oregon so much that they decided to move to portland permanently (for the moment at least). 

𝙃𝙀𝘼𝘿𝘾𝘼𝙉𝙊𝙉𝙎

more of a social media lurker, so she has someone to run her socials, cover book releases, and other pr. she does like talking about her writing process and worldbuilding, though, so fans can visit her website to see any blog posts she makes.

doesn’t mind being called “nicolette,” but it’s the sort of thing where if they hear their full name, they assume they’re in some kind of trouble or done something wrong. so please call them cole for the sake of their anxious heart >.<

mysterious and a little aloof, but not on purpose. they just don’t know how to talk about themselves. also they were living alone in the woods for, like, a year.

knows nothing about the supernatural irl, only lore that they used to write their series

currently lives in an apartment in kerns. spends a lot of time at home, but lately they’ve been trying to get out more.

has had a few casual relationships over the years, and one serious relationship while they were in college.

𝙒𝘼𝙉𝙏𝙀𝘿 𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙉𝙀𝘾𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉𝙎

going to send this to the main soonish i had this idea that cole also moved to portland to get away from where they grew up, for something of a clean slate. but someone they grew up with ended up settling in portland as well, and cole is like “oh cool, someone i know,” but also “oh no, someone i know,” ya feel

someone cole ran into on their trips into the city for the past year. could be a barista at a coffee shop they frequented, someone at the grocery store they went to, someone running errands at the same time, or anything else you can think of!

very much amused by the idea of a neighbor she’s never met. like they run into each other one day and her neighbor is like “did you just move in?” and cole is like “i’ve been here six months tho” “oh how come i’ve never seen you?” “… i don’t get out much”

someone they got off on the wrong foot with. cole never wants to make enemies on purpose, but their occasional awkward standoffishness can definitely make that happen. or maybe their vibe™ intimidated cole.

i don’t think cole’s been in portland long enough to have people they would call “friends,” but they definitely have some acquaintances.
