born in seoul in 1982 as ryu seungyeon. at age 10, he moved with his parents and older sister susannah to bergen county, nj

the family started out in a predominantly-human town, but moved to a city with far more supernatural species not long after.

he was a diligent student, both at the urging of his parents and because he knew it would take a lot if he wanted to be a lawyer or attorney.

went to college for pre-law, attended law school, was a junior associate at a top new york law firm after he passed the bar. there were a few supernaturals here and there at the firm, but the overwhelming majority were humans.

later he found himself the guardian of his sister’s two children. they were in portland at the time, and judah dropped everything, including his cushy nyc job, to be with them. thankfully he’d taken the oregon state bar previously and was able to find a job with avalon law group.

after their arrival in new jersey, his family wanted to blend in with the humans around them as best as they could, so they joined the local protestant church, attended mass on sundays, and had a private “bible study” group. most notably, though, they all took on english names derived from the bible. he chose judah because it sounds like 주다, a korean verb meaning “to give.” the name has just kind of. stuck with him over the years. never gotten around to legally changing his name, though.

his loyalties still ultimately lie with the coven he was born into, which is why he hasn’t considered joining the local coven in portland, even though he’s established himself in the city.

inspired to become an attorney bc of the immigration lawyer he met when he was a kid. he didn’t end up going into immigration law, though, bc being corporate lawyer makes way more money, and he wanted to make enough to support his parents. he always sets aside money to send to them.

was always drawn to water, so his affinity for the element when his powers first manifested did not surprise his family in the slightest. people often joked that if they didn’t already know he was a witch, they would have thought he was a merman or something.

usually very calm and sometimes a bit stoic, but he’s just as capable of being ruthless, though that side of him really only presents itself in the courtroom. so, in that sense, even his personality is like water.

lived in irvington when he first came to portland, but has since moved into healy heights in southwest hills.

ABOUT.

Born as a result of an affair between his mother, a maid originally from Zimbabwe and his father, a navy veteran who was set to become Governor. Conceived on the boat from England, he was settled in Port Royal, Jamaica where he was raised in the Governer’s household as a member of staff alongside his mother. 

His mother died when he was ten, and the next three years spent in abject misery being ignored and unacknowledged by his father, and missing his mother. 

In 1657, when he was thirteen, pirates attacked Port Royal. They were ruthless, and his father soon died after an attack. Yet, with them he saw the freedom that he didn’t have here, and in turn one of them saw something in him. He left with them, leaving the Port city behind without a second thought.

Through the ship he gained a second family with the pirates, learnt how to sail and to fight and to cheat, but it was the life of freedom that he so sorely craved.

Growing into a respected member of the crew, he was first mate by the age of thirty, under his adoptive father figure, it was the Golden Age of Piracy. 

[DEATH TW] At the age of 33, they came across a ship that had seemingly been attacked and the crew dead bar one survivor, a woman. She pleaded sanctuary, and came aboard their ship, however on her second night her true nature was revealed. 

The woman was a vampire, and she killed his entire crew without a thought, leaving James and his adoptive father. He had tried to fight but been knocked unconscious and when he awoke, it was to be told he had been turned to a vampire. 

She forced him to kill his adoptive father, before leaving him to deal with what he had done. [END OF DEATH TW]

He forced himself into isolation, never stopping in one place for long and eventually when he felt he had the ability to control himself he began to find ways to deal with his immortality and boredom. 

He trained as a lawyer under a new name, and began his own law firm. He tends to only take on a few non supernatural cases, to cover his own ass but he focuses on supernatural clients. 

Legally the business will “change hands” from father to son over the years as James doesn’t age, and he transitions from each alias. 

Ultimately though, he’s privately been known as James for the past fifty years.

evelyn grew up in a very small apartment with her mother and two older brothers in boston. her father was out of the picture by the time she turned five for a reason that she wouldn’t learn until she got older. regardless, she was a very happy kid - many of her teachers informing her father that she was a “delight to be around” and a “pleasure to have in class.”

despite an upbringing that seemed rather innocent, there was a lot of darkness in evelyn’s lineage. many of the women on her mother’s side of the family were banshees, a gift that was a bit unpredictable and known to be spread out across generations. all it had ever brought her family was pain, and ever since becoming the mother of a baby girl -- he knew nothing but fear. 

when she turned fourteen, evelyn began acting out as most teenagers do. she began rolling with what was known was the stereotypically “wrong crowd” and began frequently sneaking out to parties, drinking and smoking weed, the last being a vice she frequently engages in. she was often either assisted or accompanied by her older brothers, the eldest being two years apart.

of course - her children were causing their mother frequent headaches, and found it difficult to discipline them. around the same time, her sister was filing for divorce from her longtime husband and needed a place to live, so evelyn’s aunt moved in with them until she could get back on her feet again. 

AND THEN THE PAIN SETS IN. 

evelyn loved her aunt more than anything. even before her aunt moved into the family home, it was very clear that the woman was an incredible parental figure in her life. the arrival of her aunt made her want to do better, be better. during this time she got better grades, went out less and seemed to turn herself around, much to the confusion of her mother who never seemed to be able to get a handle on her. 

at age seventeen, the screaming started. it awoke evelyn’s mother in the middle of the night, having heard the sound spilling from her lips in nightmare after nightmare. she had hoped and prayed her daughter would be free of his family’s curse, but she wasn’t. 

two days later, evelyn’s aunt went missing when on her way home from her new office job. frantic, her mother turned her daughter, even if she was oblivious to her abilities. more than anything, she was terrified that she’d lose one of the only parental figures she ever really knew. something told her that her aunt was still alive, but evelyn didn’t know what. 

about five days after her aunt went missing, another sign of her abilities showed itself, leading evelyn to be the one to discover her aunt’s body. drawn to death. she had been murdered, a gorey scene that has stuck with her ever since. 

a year later, college rolled around and evelyn made the decision to stick close to home and attend boston university to study psychology. after what occurred, her grandmother, another banshee moved nearby to educate her. evelyn would spend time with her friends on the weekend, but many of her nights were spent working on her coursework and after that, learning about who she was and never wanted to be. 

one night, after a night on the town she was in an uber with her friend on her way back to their dorm where she would be staying. she didn’t know what came over her, but she couldn’t stop screaming. startled, the driver crashed. she was the only survivor.

CURRENTLY.

shortly after the crash, evelyn dropped out of college and moved to portland, a new place where no one knew her or her story. she lives in an apartment by herself and while she spends a lot of time in the bars and club scene of portland, she makes sure to not make many, if any serious connections. a couple have slipped through the cracks, but only a special few.

the definition of a stoner, in look, but not entirely in personality. very thick skinned, she tends to act for her own protection, but simultaneously makes decisions that could be defined as self-distructive.

has a very sharp tongue, which also tends to get her in some intense situations. not only does she tend to talk back, but she has gotten herself into several physical altercations in her life.

she wants absolutely nothing to do with the supernatural world, even if she won’t outwardly say it. instead, she does everything that she can to mask her own story. she frequently listens to very loud music in an attempt to drown our her hearing, even if it isn’t always successful.

music tends to be her safe space. she has a book of songs that she’s written but will never release and plays both the acoustic and bass guitar. she has a dream of starting a band, she just needs to find the right people.

more than anything, she needs love. desperately bad. the question is if she will allow herself to receive it, or if she believes she deserves it.

born and raised in the big city, cole has never felt they were a city person. it was always too loud, too busy, too much. they constantly yearned to live in a place with nature (and solitude) closer to them.

always enjoyed reading and writing, but was quite reserved and hesitant to show their work. some of their teachers encouraged them to enter writing competitions in middle and high school, and they won a few awards. 

they didn’t really want to go to college, but everyone around them insisted they go nonetheless. so, after high school, they studied english and earned their bachelor’s

did some solo traveling after graduation before settling back in their hometown (or city, rather)

came into money after writing a new adult modern fantasy novel a few years ago. it was meant to be a standalone book, but was so wildly successful that cole was urged to turn the book into a series. there are currently three books in the anthology, and it’s expected to have at least a two more

last year, she was hit with writer’s block and couldn’t move forward with her next book. eventually, she decided to rent a cabin in the woods in oregon, hoping it would help her find inspiration. other than venturing into the city once, maybe twice a week, all her time was spent in their cabin.

ended up enjoying their time in oregon so much that they decided to move to portland permanently (for the moment at least).

EX BOYFRIEND: Shortly after being bitten, she met a vampire through work in New York, and they fell in love over the course of their time at work. He had been a vampire for a few centuries, and helped introduce her to the supernatural world and cope with the way things were now. They went from hating each other to something else, but the age gap proved too much, and he left her in the middle of the night. 

CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND: They grew up together, and Livia abruptly cut of contact after the death of her family and her turning. Now they’ve run into each other in Portland, and things are awkward.

ABOUT:

Born the youngest of two daughters to Carlos and Ana, Livia was the moon to her sister Luisa’s sun. They were complete opposites, Luisa loved pink and painting nails, content with sitting and reading a book in the corner whilst Livia would be skating around on her roller skates singing the latest song stuck in her head whilst trying to play guitar. 

Her parents were loving and chaotic in their own way, their father was a mechanic who sang to the rolling stones at the top of his lungs whilst cooking them breakfast on sunday mornings. Their mom was an artist, most comfortable in paint splattered dungarees with a paintbrush twisted into a knot in her hair. 

Basically their childhood was filled with music, art and laughter, and Livia adored it. She loved her family, and loved their life. 

As predicted, Livia grew from a wild child to a hellion teen and her parents constantly dealt with people knocking on their door with complaints, “Your Livia did this,” and as she entered her twenties, it was brought up with laughter and jokes about how Mrs. Hendersons cat still suffered the trauma of her wild antics and pranks. 

Livia became a mechanic like her father, earning a job in the same shop as him and joking about how they’d open their own mechanic shop one day, a father and daughter empire. 

[DEATH MENTION TW] However, their idyllic life came to a halt when she came home from work later than her father. She had been delayed getting a package, shirts with a potential business names and her father and hers name on them, and her father had gone ahead of his daughter. 

When she came home, she saw her sister first, lying on the couch with her throat torn out. She found her parents in the kitchen, with her father crouched over his wife like he spent his last moments protecting her. 

Her stomach dropped, and the woman stood so quietly, so numb that she was unaware of someone approaching. The attack should’ve killed her, but she survived the bite to the throat and woke up the next day. [END OF DEATH MENTION]

In the wake of the death of her family, she withdrew into herself. She moved to New York, where she met a vampire who’d been around for a long enough time to understand what she had become. She was a lycan, and she needed to adjust to that. 

He began to help her adjust, and slowly she was trying to get used to what she was. Over time they also fell in love, something that didn’t last. Their age gap became too much, he felt there was too much life for her to experience and he didn’t want to hold her back so he left.

Alone once more, she moved to Portland where she got a job with Morbid Records. She comes across as social, and charismatic but is also pretty adept at keeping people at arms length, not quite getting too close to people for fear of getting hurt.

the daughter of a loyal familiar and a human woman, selene was born in london into a comfortable home where it was believed that she would never know pain. there was never a time when she wasn’t shown affection or given what she wanted. 

she was always told that one day, she would follow in her father’s footsteps to protect a witch. at first she defied it, not wanting to be controlled by someone else. it was after meeting her father’s witch, a kindhearted woman for the first time, that she began to become more curious about her intended profession. she studied her father and his witch closely, hoping one day she would find a bond like the one they shared. 

rebecca foster was an coven elder - and a very powerful one at that. not only did she have power practically dripping from her fingertips, but she was beyond kind to everyone she met. she would go out of her way to make sure that her coven members were safe and protected, always. 

much like her father, selene was a believer in the idea that she could have it all. he believed he could master the act of balance: have his soulmate, a child and serve the witch he was born to. and yet, the choices he had to make for rebecca put a strain on his relationship with his wife. it eventually got to a point where they decided to divorce. it shattered his heart. 

the family made the decision for selene to go with her father to the states, where rebecca had taken a position at new york university. she attended a prestigious private school where she excelled, graduating at the top of her class as valedictorian. she was accepted georgetown university on the pre-med track. 

AND THEN THE PAIN SETS IN.

college was where selene thrived. she excelled in her academics and found herself making many friends, all the while watching as her father looked on proudly. at least, when he could. there were times when rebecca still took priority. 

shortly after she graduated with her degree, rebecca was attacked by an enemy coven looking to collect a debt. in the process of trying to protect her, selene’s father died. she spent a good period of time feeling an emotion she had never felt before: hatred. hatred for rebecca and hatred for the profession that she was sworn to do. even if she has forgiven, that pain hasn’t entirely gone away.

as part of her healing, she spent a lot of time traveling and learning from others with no intention of settling down.

she ended up in portland rather randomly, not even she is sure why. regardless, something about the town convinced her to stay. this reason soon came in the form of shin seo jun, the owner of the botanical shop. much like her father over rebecca, she soon found herself becoming protective over him and chose him as her witch. 

CURRENTLY.

she resides in a very neatly-kept home close to her witch and not far away from the hospital. 

she is extremely calm, soft spoken and level-headed, sometimes to a point that pisses off some people. bring up her witch or anyone she cares about, however, and you might begin to see some cracks. 

she is currently not in contact with her mother, but would like to be. she’s just a bit scared. 

selene has always been very skilled working with young children, specializing in pediatrics. she’s been the resident pediatrician at the hospital for around seven or eight years now. 

dresses rather smartly: her wardrobe is filled to the brim with trousers, button-up shirts and dress shoes.

sometimes she wonders if her kindness can be a weakness as much as it is a strength, considering she could be letting in the wrong people and leaving herself and shin seo jun vunerable.

as much as she knows her father failed to keep the balancing act of having a normal life and serving his witch, that hasn’t stopped her from wanting it. one particular person has caught her eye, but she’s been fighting it.

AND THE STORY BEGINS.

they say maggie was born to be an anthropologist. when she was born, her anthropologist parents were preparing to conduct research all over brazil. this would start many, many trips around the world for the family and an infinite amount of curiosity for the young woman. 

never staying in one place most certainly effected her, considering she never really had the chance to make longtime friends. regardless, maggie wouldn’t have traded her experiences for the world. even if there were times when she really needed a friend. 

not only that, but she was a bit on the bookish side growing up. she would much rather read than talk to people and often found a lot of comfort in having something that was consistant. she could read her favorite book a thousand times and the story would never change. 

it was clear that maggie was very smart from the moment that she entered the classroom, but the concept of her being a gifted kid only grew when she reached middle school: particularly in the maths and sciences. she often took higher classes than her grade level to keep herself challenged. 

graduated at the top of the class before going off to follow in her parents footsteps at colombia university. after her undergrad, she went on to pursue a masters degree and has since received her doctorate. 

THIS IS WHERE THE PAIN SETS IN.

during her education, she continued to travel with professors to learn and continue the same work she had watched her parents engage in since she was born. during this time, it was when she met a man by the name of sebastian castillo and fell head over heels while traveling through spain.

she would come to learn that sebastian’s family was well known throughout spain as a family of hunters, tracking the supernatural. at first she didn’t believe him, but after learning his methods.. she too began to look into them. he had never stayed in one place, much like her. this was how they connected and by the years end, they were married.

once she received her doctorate, sebastian and maggie made it their life’s work to track the supernatural and learn more about them. the two of them benefitted each other not only as partners in life, but as partners in their work. even still, maggie continued to work on other projects. how to go about publicizing her more supernatural research was something she never really got to do, however, before the unthinkable happened. 

during one of his tracking expeditions, sebastian never came home. maggie was heartbroken, having lost her life partner when they still had so much ahead of them. so, she swore off her work with the supernatural, planning to never publish what she had found. 

that is, until she learned about the supernatural activity in portland, oregon. it also just so happened that they were looking for a professor in the anthropology department...

CURRENTLY.

maggie is still a rather new hire at the university, known as dr. k by most of her students. she’s better at teaching than she ever expected to be: kind, supportive and wants nothing more than for her students to succeed. 

she lives in a rather expensive home in a nicer part of town, her expensive taste clear in the way she decorates. not only does she take pride in her furniture, but the matinence of many of the artifacts she has kept up over the years.

since sebastian’s passing a couple of years ago she has been more or less.. allergic to commitment. she fears letting anyone else close, knowing that when she let hector in, he was taken away from her. will that change? who knows.

she spends a lot of time at the bars and is specifically a regular at hells gate. 

perhaps what she’s most curious about is the magic surrounding the coven. even if she’s interested, she has sworn off looking into the supernatural, for it took hector from her. 

she had been seeing someone consistently though.. as much as neither of them want to admit it, they can’t seem to stay away from each other ( WANTED CONNECTION )
