April 14th, 1912 - On this day, 110 years ago, during the Sunday service held in dining saloons, first and second class passengers sing hymns about danger at sea.
Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm hath bound the restless wave, Who bid'st the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep; O hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea.
Throughout the day the Titanic receives warning messages about ice from a number of different ships including the Cunard liner RMS Caronia, the Leyland Line’s SS Californian, and others.

On April 14th, 1912, the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg at 11:40 pm, popping open many rivets and allowing water to gush into the ship. 2 hours and 40 minutes later, she sunk at 2:20 am, taking 1500 people with her. 705 people were able to escape the sinking ship, and were picked up by the RMS Carpathia a few hours after the Titanic sank.

Titanic drabble #7
characters: Captain Smith, Wireless Operators Jack Phillips and Harold Bride
warnings: none
words: 100
--
"Send S.O.S."
Bride was trying to joke. How could he not? They'd been joking around ever since Captain Smith first came down with the news. Neither of them wanted to think about the fact that Phillips was sending C.Q.D.s, so they thought about humor instead.
"It might be your last chance to use it."
Phillips and Captain Smith both laughed.
But Bride noticed that the pattern Phillips was sending changed, without hesitation, to the dit-dit-dit dash-dash-dash dit-dit-dit of the new signal, and they all stopped laughing, and Bride searched his mind for the next joke.
