So I just finished watching Sakuran the movie, which is the adaptation of the manga by Moyoco Anno. The movie was released in 2007 and directed by Mika Ninagawa, who also went on to direct Helter Skelter, which in turn is an adaptation of the Helter Skelter manga by Kyouko Okazaki. And guess who  Okazaki’s former assistant was? Moyoco Anno. Which makes a lot of sense when you look at Anno’s early works’ themes and art style.

ANDD the main character in the Sakuran movie is played by Anna Tsuchiya, who made music for NANA, one of the most beloved shows of all time, right before the film.

Anyways, the point is, it’s just very fascinating to see how a group of women can influence each other, support one another and bring each other’s works to life.
