National Handwriting Day
23rd January, National Handwriting Day. Did you ever think why have an exclusive Handwriting Day?
Although this day was invented in 1977, I feel it is more so important in today's scenario, when we are so addicted to the use of the key boards for all types of written communication.
As per the historical evidences, Handwriting was incepted in 3400 BC in Mesopotamia, with the spread of Handwriting through the years, good Handwriting became a symbol of status.
You can still make your handwriting a status symbol by enhancing your writing style and skills. Always remember you are able to read because some time in the past you could write legibly with your pen.
It is prudent to give Handwriting more importance in these days of automated communication. After all feelings are always better reflected when you pen down a few words personally for someone very close to your heart.
Continue to celebrate this day, the 23rd of January as the 'National Handwriting Day'.

Benefits of Learning Abacus

Abacus, the ancient calculating tool was initially solely used for the purpose of doing higher arithmetic calculation, but has now emerged as a holistic brain development program for kids. While improved Mathematical calculation is the immediate visible outcome, the list of benefits of Abacus learning goes much beyond. The modern day program of Abacus teaching is designed specifically for the kids from 5 to 15 years of age. It is scientifically proved that during this phase the process of brain development or Neurogenesis is at its peak. Being a complete brain development program for kids, abacus learning activates both left and right hemispheres of a child’s brain, resulting in added benefits such as – Increased level of concentration, enhanced listening ability, better logical thinking, improved recall, photographic memory, better overall academic performance, diminished math phobia and self-confidence.

Concentration, Listening Ability, Memory And Recall, Why And How Are They So Important

At a first glance the qualities like concentration, listening ability, memory and recall, may not appear very significant, but let me assure you these four could be the prime cause behind the most common problem we come across in the academic performance of kids. In layman’s language, it is said that the child is poor in studies; technically we can term it a result of lack of concentration, poor listening ability & memory and weak recall.
Interestingly these four are interconnected and the right or the creative hemisphere of the brain is responsible for them.
We often say that a child is not focusing on studies or has diverted attention while studying. Do we really know that this is actually because of a lack of concentration which actually has a scientific reason and is not being done voluntarily by the child?

Problem Solving with Abacus
Mathematics for many is a scary subject right from their childhood. They dread numbers and this may continue even when they are in college. Mathematics is considered "better" as agreed by the teacher who said it was not a killer. As a human anything abstract is always difficult to understand and become friends with. And, numbers certainly are abstract. Moreover, with multiple formulae and arithmetic operations, they, of course, are not so easy for many to accommodate. The best solution to get over the math phobia at an early age is if one could transform numbers from abstract to something tactile that visualized that and be touched. I am sure you have heard of the ancient Chinese / Japanese calculating device Abacus. This certainly is one instrument that gives the numbers an image that a child can feel and visualize. This greatly takes care of the math phobia of the kids as they can visualize the numbers and calculate.

Effect of lock-down on Children, Parents, Teachers and School

When did you last visit a school? Well whenever you did, just visualize the scenario. It is a building that greets you with a lot of noise, the noise of students chatting, teachers laboring hard to maintain discipline in their respective classroom, the noise of students running around, playing, laughing etc. It is a building that has an aura of a very high positive energy.
Of late things have changed. There is silence all around. The aura of energy is gone. You can no more see the kids rushing into the school in the morning or running towards the school exit with the last bell ringing. The usual sight of parents dropping and picking their children is also gone.
This is the sight at all schools without exception since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of schools are closed affecting the lives of millions of students. With the fear of the children getting infected by the Corona virus parents have locked their children indoors.

Why so many Play Schools and their expected standards?

It has been my recent observation that there is a so-called play school almost in every colony, and almost everyone had a good number of kids in their Campus prior to the Covid 19 pandemic. When I started to mull over this fact and tried to answer the question, why so many Play Schools at all?
Primarily the reason I could identify were, the Nuclear Families and the working Parents, unavailability of trained domestic help for taking care of the small kids of toddlers, lack of playing space for the child in compact Home designs and the Modern Day Colonies, single child with high Tantrums and last but not the least high level of competition.
Hence, there are several ‘Play Schools’, but the most relevant question that needs to be answered is, are they equipped enough to deliver effectively and efficiently to the needs of the kids?
A detail analysis of this is interesting. To get the detail please read our blog https://www.mastermindschool.co.in/blog_detail/273/why-a-play-school-and-its-expected-standards?#

The Corona Effect on Education
This unexpected and uncalled for crisis due to Corona will probably become the turning point in the education world, creating new norms of teaching and learning.
In this Corona crisis, the entire education system has changed. There has been a change in the attitude of the Schools, colleges and universities, who are now agreeing to the fact that they like it or not online teaching is the only available option.
The parents will now be looking for schools offering quality online teaching and will avoid or many may even withdraw from costly institutions in the coming financial year.
Teachers are not comfortable teaching online. They are improving their technical knowledge and ability. They are accepting that due to the restrictions of the physical presence of the students and teachers pandemic, this new knowledge to be acquired is no more a choice it is essential and mandatory.

Choosing The Right School
Choosing the right school for your child is certainly a very vital decision because it is the initial schooling that decides the future of your child’s academic success and life. Well, talking about a Pre-primary school or a Play Way School it should be able to take care of the anxiety of separation of a first timer child.
Important steps for selecting a Play School.
As the first step make a list of all the schools in your vicinity. During your visit observe everything very diligently for safety and hygienity. See if the kids there are happy.
Talking with the right person always gives a lot of relevant information. Talk to teachers, Principal, Parents and staff.
The fee should be affordable and compatible with the value being provided.
A school should have the best of the teachers because they contribute 75% to the academics and personality development of the kids.
