I still have social media connections to two online-only friends from junior high (AOL in 1996) and social media connections to half a dozen (mostly) online-only friends from early Tumblr days (2007).

For some reason maintaining those threads gives me a lot of peace, knowing that people I may have never met in person are still a part of my life and that late night tinychats, no-shave Novembers and risque late-night postings have as much weight in my memory as in-person interactions.
