me: oh yea it's been years I'm over it
also me: *was actually irreparably changed to the point that my personality and the way I interact with others and my insecurities are, even today, a direct result of what happened*

Okay but what about bisexual black-sheep of an aristocratic family Grantaire.
Grantaire who grew up in a famous Gothic mansion and a marble townhouse. Who was chauffeured to school in a limo. Whose father was bigoted and whose mother was cold and who comes from a broken home and a failed high-society marriage. Grantaire who craves emotional and physical attention because he was so starved of it. Grantaire, whose real mother is the nanny, who he visits weekly in her little retirement flat.
Grantaire, whose cynicism and disillusionment are a direct response to his exposure to the upper classes, and their blatant disregard for the disprivileged.
Grantaire who’s never had the courage to break with his toxic family, because he drifted through school and university, doodling, reading classics, being a charming little shit, and is completely unsuited to any actual career. Grantaire, a jack of all trades and master of none.
Grantaire, who fences, and plays polo and lacrosse and rides horses and was on his school’s rowing team.
Grantaire, who works as a nightclub singer, because he enjoys it.
Grantaire and Enjolras, who’ve known each other all their lives, because they went to the same private school. Who are friends because Enjolras knew him long before. Before the cynicism, the alcoholism. Before the disillusionment with the very idea of progress and change set in and warped Grantaire.
Enjolras and Grantaire whose love-hate relationship of bickering and banter is built from years of affection and interaction.
Grantaire, who offers Marius a home when he finds him on Courf’s sofa because ‘I know how badly bourgeois parents suck’.
Grantaire, who gives lavish gifts because he literally has no concept of the value of money.
Grantaire, who after Cosette found out who her real father is, went and kicked Tholomyès in the balls at a charity gala.
Grantaire, who cannot help but love how honest, open and affectionate the Les Amis are.
Grantaire, who was surrounded by all the toxicity of privilege from the cradle, and still turned out a decent man.

i don’t think anyone can deny the fact that Malfoy Manor was a toxic environment to grow up in or the fact that um, 1980s Death Eater Mingle was a toxic environment to raise a child. nor do i think that Lucius and Narcissa were responsible and good parents by any objective stretch–once again, they are RACIST BIGOTS who decided to go the extra mile and actively join a militant, foaming at the mouth group of racist bigots. that’s not even bringing up the fact that like, Narcissa was explicitly raised a in family of inbred class-and-race obsessed dickweeds and the same thing likely happened to Lucius, so they themselves were obsessed with peacocks weird status symbols and gave their kid fucked up priorities and were occasionally super rude in a not fun way
BUT
it is literally impossible for me to imagine a world in which Lucius and Narcissa didn’t absolutely dote on their son in whatever haphazard way they could. not when Malfoy got like a bazillion presents every week at Hogwarts and made sure to brag about it. not when it’s said that Narcissa almost sent Draco to BULGARIA because she’s that much of a fuckin PTA mom, not when Lucius bought the entire Slytherin team Nimbus 2001s and probably god damn specialized Quidditch speedos because he cares that much about intramural sports, i guess, not when the two of them spend the Battle of Hogwarts screaming after their kid. not when it’s pretty explicit in text that part of the reason that Draco is a foil to both Ron and Harry in that unlike Harry (who has no parents) and unlike Ron (who is crowded and overshadowed) Draco has parents who love him and give him as much attention as he wants, and yet as far as human beings go, he’s still pretty shitty
not when Jo Rowling made SUCH A BIG FUCKING DEAL out of the fact that the only reason the war was won at all BOTH TIMES was because of chance and a mother’s love–and the second time around it was because Narcissa loved her son more than she could hate anything, because she thought her son was more important that the fate of the world, than her own life
#i literally just don’t understand why people would go through this effort of woobifying draco malfoy!!! he is not that interesting!!! #like try restricting yourself to just blowing his canon misery out proportion instead of inventing new and fake suffering for him #i cannot believe this whole website made me write a post defending the MALFOYS #GENUINELY talking about their one positive quality! instead of making fun of them! #i had to refer to them by their first names!!! indignity upon indignity #anyway the malfoys are still terrible but at least they love their terrible terrible son

so I did some research regarding Enjolras’ name and discovered that he was almost definitely based off of French anarchist/friend of Victor Hugo Louise Michel. Enjolras was one of her pseudonyms when writing, and she signed her letters and poems to Hugo with the name (Hugo also referred to her in his journal as ‘Enjolras’. this is interesting because Michel is a lot like Enjolras, daring to be shot (“Since it seems that every heart that beats for freedom has no right to anything but a little slug of lead, I demand my share. If you let me live, I shall never cease to cry for vengeance.”) instead of imprisoned, publicly protesting the government, and being violently anti-Bonapartist. It’s also interesting that another of Michel’s pseuds was ‘La Louve Rouge’ (the red wolf), and Enjolras is almost always depicted as wearing red. Louise Michel went on to help lead the Kanak Revolt, and later singlehandedly lead many demonstrations in Paris. She was also most likely not straight, and involved in a relationship with Sylvia Pankhurst while they advocated for women’s rights.
tl;dr shown through their many similarities (and Michel’s affiliation with Hugo), it’s quite possible that Enjolras’ name/character was based off of feminist-anarchist Louise Michel.

Les Misérables ↳ montparnasse
“Montparnasse was a child; less than twenty, with a pretty face, lips like cherries, charming black locks, the glow of spring in his eyes; he had all the vices and aspired to all the crimes. The digestion of what was bad gave him an appetite for what was worse. He was the gamin turned vagabond and the vagabond become an assassin.”

Help me fund my Top Surgery!!!
Hey friends, because I’m nonbinary it’s harder for me to get referrals to the treatment I need at gender clinics, I’ve asked to be referred multiple times and each time I’ve been turned away.
I’m incredibly fortunate that my parents are supportive of my decision and are going to pay for my surgery privately, but we’re not in a good place financially to do this so I’m raising money! I have a job and can finance part of it myself, but I can also sell and get commissions that would really help.
Little donations would be lovely, but I can do lots of stuff in exchange:
I will perform covers (I can play piano, ukulele and guitar!)
I have an Etsy, Redbubble and Gumtree where you can buy some of my paintings and shirts!
I am completely open for commissions (info here)
If you want to donate through Paypal, click here
And I have a YouCaring page here

One thing I feel like a lot of people forget is that there aren’t really any hard lines between gay, bi, and straight. Or cis and trans, asexual or allosexual, romantic or aromantic. Heck, there aren’t any hard lines between different genders, either.
Sure, most people tend to cluster at one end of the spectrum or another, but it’s still a curved distribution with lots of people in the middle. While labels are useful for communication and developing a shared identity, drawing arbitrary lines between who does and doesn’t “count” as a member of one category or another is usually counterproductive and sometimes harmful.
This is why letting people choose their own labels is so important. Human beings are complicated, and the more complicated a thing is, the less likely it will conform to arbitrary, socially-defined categories. An individual’s comfort and safety is more important than debates about semantics.
#you are not allowed to engage in this in any way if you are not x#I feel this on a profound level#not just about lgbt stuff though my identity is definitely blurred#but yeah I exist on the edge of so many spectrums#and the hard line really fucked me up over mental illness#and denied me access to a community I really needed at the time#because I didn't feel sick enough#and like#I'm always so fucking anxious talking about my race because I'm hyper aware I'm white passing#but at the same time#I never ever considered myself white until I got to social discourse#(and to be clear not because I never thought about it but because the fact my father was non-white was very influential to my sense of iden#but suddenly I was being told that wearing my aunts handmedowns was cultural appropriation#and I now have a more detailed understanding#but basically long story short I felt like I could never mention my dad was asian for years in case I was seen as like#trying to tokenise him or myself#anyway okay I'm done#relevant
