Recently read a fic where Yin Yu sometimes wandered around the Ghost city without his mask being completely unrecognised. It's so true, I feel like he does it very often just to make sure that there are no rebels or something. Luckily, the citizens are very sincere in their admiration
Imagine if he tried shit-talking about Chengzhu on purpose and came back beaten up by the demons

My friend was watching the show for the first time and they brought up a misconception that I think we see a lot in fandom. So I want to talk about The Gamblers Den and specifically this scene in particular:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My friend genuinely wondered what Hua Cheng would do and then when they heard his explanation they were even more confused:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They basically messaged me saying, wait Hua Cheng would have made the bet. He bets people鈥檚 lives and some how Xie Lian is okay with that. How???
And to anyone else who鈥檚 thinking the same thing or falling for the Demon King vibe Hua Cheng is trying to sell here I am here to tell you, you have all been duped.
What鈥檚 import to understand is that Ghost City actually came from making one of Xie Lian鈥檚 ideas work:
Tumblr media
Xie Lian is talking about a specialised market here, a place where the common people couldn鈥檛 just stumble into without reason and that鈥檚 what Ghost City is and The Gambers Den is the foundation of it. While Xie Lian didn鈥檛 say hey go gamble, Hua Cheng is taking a risk and playing into his greatest strength and then showing of for his crush is the most dramatic way possible when talking about it.
For Hua Cheng the house always wins! Literally. Or at least what he wants the bet to be will always happen. His luck is just that good. If the gambler wins it鈥檚 genuinely because Hua Cheng let him.
In the Den he is acting as Judge and Jury with Xie Lian as his moral code but he can鈥檛 just turn down the deals. If he does then these people could go to less safe options (looking at you Qi Rong) to get what they desire which negates the reason he built Ghost City in the first place.
Hua Cheng has to let these people play by his rules if he wants to follow his Gods wishes. So he has to be creative and look at loop holes, phrasing and Xie Lians most important teaching finding the third path.
For this moment specifically giving the options I think Hua Cheng would have taken the 20 years of his daughter鈥檚 life. Why you may ask? Well the phrasing is easier to manipulate. While the eradication of his competitors is pretty well laid 20 years of his daughters life is pretty vague.
Option 1) Hua Cheng could take her away from her shit father and put her in an apprenticeship and marry a man of her choosing since her hand is now her own to decide since Hua Cheng doesn鈥檛 want it.
Option 2) She has to work in Ghost City for 20 years and is married to Yin Yu in name only (because Hua Cheng can鈥檛 have a wife at all or he won鈥檛 win Gege) then gets pleasantly divorced and giving a severance payment after 20 years.
Option 3) He could decide life is a vague term and after she dies she has to spend 20 years in Ghost City and matchmake a future marriage between her and another ghost.
Option 4) He could decide what she has to do with the next twenty years of her life which could include an actual good marriage and education. Where she has to worship his shrine and be only his devotee for 20 years.
Option 5) He can literally say I鈥檒l collect when I decide and never cash in.
He can do anything because the wording is so fluent and for Hua Cheng debater and Civil God Killer it鈥檚 probably easy. He鈥檚 not a demon king, he鈥檚 a crafty trickster spirit basically a fae lord.
He鈥檚 playing the system and he鈥檚 winning that鈥檚 what Xie Lian figured out and why he supports it. He knows Hua Cheng well enough even back then to trust that he would make the right decision because he believes in Hua Cheng and he鈥檚 right too.

re: the new tgcf uncensored version
The tgcf tags are just going to become insufferable for awhile huh? Really not digging some of the rancid vibes, like on both sides. The "Suck It We Win of COURSE its like this you fools" attitude is just as obnoxious as the people saying you should feel bad for liking it bc its OOC or toxic or heteronormative or whatever.
Buds. Friends. Fanfiction still exists. You all can have it however you want. A part of being in fandom is tossing out the bits of canon you don't like.
But also, if the translations were validating to what you prefer? Don't be super shitty to people who are a bit sad about it bc they've been shipping them a certain way for ages already.
Can ya'll just try to be nice to each other? Goddamn.

ever think about the great sect madams of the generation before?
about madam yu, the violet spider, one of few in her generation to earn a title (even her husband was only ever sect leader. even wen ruohan was never regarded by a title other than sect leader wen). about yu ziyuan, about what she was like before years of jealousy and envy twisted her to only her most bitter parts? about the girl who was the third daughter of a sect leader, and then the wife of another, and yet all of her immense martial power meant nothing to the society around her.
about madam jin, known only by her title and never given a name or a natal sect, who was still somehow the closest friend to yu ziyuan. the mother of the sect heir and yet a wife who can do nothing but stand by as her husband dishonors their marriage over and over again.
about madam lan, the murderess locked up for her crimes, never seeing a trial and dying alone, only allowed to see her children once a month. who was she before she was the wife of the lan sect leader? was there a reason she killed the lan elder? did she want that marriage to qingheng-jun? did she even want the children she was kept from?
about the madams nie and wen, who only exist by implication, by the knowledge that their children exist and therefore so must they. about how so little is even implied about them?

It would be so funny if Lan Wangji wasn't actually that beautiful compared to the others. It'd be more of a brand thing: the Twin Jades of Lan but Lan Xichen is 10/10 and Lan Wangji is a solid 5 or something, but you can't just say that out loud, so everyone just kinda goes with it

I want Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng to reconcile in post-canon. I want Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng to get drunk and start a mock fight, just to mess up with overprotective Lan Wangji. I want Jiang Cheng to outdrink Wei Wuxian because his new body just sucks. I want them to eat spicy food together and start calling everyone who doesn't like it pussy( Wei Wuxian will call Lan Wangji the cutest pussy in the world). I want Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian to crush their bones in a proper reunion embrace although it's been months since Wei Wuxian returned. Would they cry they eyes out in the process? Absolutely. I want them to sneak out to swim in the middle of the night, just like they did in their childhood.
Lan Wangji would be a bit jealous, because he can't really be a part of it. But after a while he'd get used to the thought that Wei Wuxian is not going anywhere and after a good time with other people he always comes back to Lan Wangji.

I really love to think that the demons of the Ghost city admire Xie Lian not only as Hua Chengzhu's husband, but also as a person. Like, they don't tend to hide their emotions when it comes to such things and I feel like most of them truly love and respect their kings(even Qi Rong), because ghosts value actions more than words. And Xie Lian... is a perfect idol. He truly cares for the demons and they can't help but respond with the same warmth and respect.
In the beginning they were too afraid to say a word against Crimson Rain's spouse, but eventually they got to know Xie Lian better and realised that he doesn't care about their past and just does nice things without even manifesting it.
So yeah, when a heavenly official shows up in disguise they mostly hear praise towards a wacky but kind grand uncle.

I feel like Xie Lian eventually would start adding more colours to his clothes. In the beginning it's gonna be just to make Hua Cheng happy but after a while Xie Lian will realise that he doesn't feel wrong wearing bright things. His key colour is still white, he's still mourning. But it doesn't cancel out his right to be happy and feel beautiful.
Just imagine being able to wear something that reminds you of the most hurtful episodes of your life and smile, because you don't have to bear this pain alone. Guilt will never go away, just as sorrow. But now Xie Lian has a special someone who can not only ease this pain, but also remind him that there were many beautiful things too. And that Xie Lian deserves beautiful things like no one else.

He Xuan probably spent a lot of time just staring at Xie Lian's statue at the Tonglu Mountain because there weren't many things to do whhen he killed everyone.
So when Hua Cheng tried to describe his noble, gracious special someone Black Water threw chopsticks at him and said that he would recognise this fucking face faster than Shi Wudu's
