Being an intern at Tricell would change your life forever, but not in the way you expected.

The moment he laid his eyes on you, he was breathless. It was one of the very few instances when he lost himself, when words were stuck in his throat. He was stiff as a plank and was staring at you with wide eyes, wondering what type of spell you cast on him.

So, he did what he knew best: he stalked you. At first, he followed you around the lab, cafeteria, and during breaks. He eavesdropped on your conversations with coworkers or on phone calls. All of your movements were observed by his watchful, constant gaze.

Then, he stepped up his game (as always) and became even creepier. He placed cameras in your house and hired people to watch you constantly and report back to him. After all, he had a lot of things to do, but even so, you were constantly on his mind, like the heartbeat he couldn’t live without.

He knew your every step. He knew your deepest fears and desires. He knew at what time you ate your lunch and what was the last show you watched. He was constantly there, yet so distant. You barely knew him, except from what other people told you and from one, maybe two, random encounters. Sure, he was pleasant to the eyes, but he never picked up a conversation with you. Unbeknown to you, he was closer than you could ever imagine.

He knew you well enough to know that you wouldn’t share his vision, so he did the unimaginable. He sent two of his men to kidnap you in the parking lot as you were about to leave. Then they brought you back to one of his labs.

The device was still a prototype, and you were the perfect subject. The surgery was long and complicated, but eventually, he succeeded.

As you began to wake up, you felt strange in your own body. You knew it was yours, and yet it felt like something else was inside your mind as well. You felt… foreign in your own flesh, like you didn’t belong there.

Then, you felt something heavy on your chest. With trembling hands and doubt in your heart, you tapped on the cold metal ducts that pierced your skin. The flesh around them was tender, sore, and painful to the touch.

You wanted to scream. You wanted to run away. You didn’t recognise the environment. But, to your rising despair, your muscles didn’t move.

“It’s alright, dear,” a voice echoed in the corner. With steady steps, he approached you, and he gently lifted your chin to meet his gaze.

Red eyes pierced through your soul. His face carried a satisfied smirk. The moment you saw that smirk stretching across his face, you knew.

“Why?” you asked yourself, still unable to speak. Tears began to roll down your cheeks, at which point you saw him soften.

“Don’t cry, my flower,” he said, wiping the tears away gently. “I don’t want to hurt you… and I won’t turn you into a grotesque experiment.”

Your expression shifted from despair to confusion. “If I’m not here as an experiment, then…?”

“You see…” he began, his thumbs beginning to invade your personal space as they traveled to your lips, “you caught my attention from day one. I can’t explain it—it’s just… you left a strong impression, and my admiration only grew with each day I saw you.”

“Each day? I barely saw him around!” you thought, fighting to move even a finger.

“I had to know you better before getting involved, so I followed you around…” His thumb was now tracing your lower lip. “And I fell…”

As he kept talking, you felt more and more nauseous. He was invading your personal space; he had taken away your freedom. Perhaps it was because of these strong emotions that you were able to move one small finger.

This small detail didn’t escape Wesker’s watchful gaze.

“Oh, dear, let me fix that,” he said, pulling a remote from his pocket. He pressed a button, and you felt your insides grow colder as liquid began to pump into your body. You couldn’t describe what followed next.

It was like someone had poured a bunch of chemicals straight into your veins. Your brain turned into mush. Every thought of resistance- gone. The disgust you felt towards him - gone. All that remained was an obedient little girl, desperate for directions to pull her out of the fog.

When he noticed the blank, lifeless stare in your eyes, Wesker’s grin widened. The experiment was a success. His hand slid down your throat, squeezing it gently at first, then harder, until you started gasping for air. He watched as your cheeks turned red, as tears rolled down your face again—and despite that, he couldn’t find a single trace of resistance in your eyes.

“Oh, this will be interesting…” he chuckled, releasing you so you could catch your breath. This was just the beginning of something far more twisted.

He’d keep you as a pet. He didn’t want your opinion, because he already knew it would contradict his. He knew you wouldn’t share his ideals of a perfect world, so he reduced you to silence, nothing more than a mere doll to please his eyes. At least for now.

He’d have you follow him around. He slowly introduced you to his plans, to his vision, and you listened - because you had no choice. Besides, his was the only voice that pulled you, even faintly, out of the fog. It was distant, as if someone were speaking from very far away.

Whether you ever truly understood him or not, that's not sure. But amidst the everlasting state of confusion, his voice felt divine, and you craved it more and more. Every minute away from him was pure torture, because you were left in a perpetual empty state of mind.

New RE9 Trailer!

For those who want to see the trailer, you can find it here! I recommend watching it first if you haven't already seen it because I'm not going to be covering everything in the trailer, just what's important.

We open with Grace and her mother Alyssa in a room at the Wrenwood Hotel. Grace is doing... something? on her laptop that she's apparently been working on all day when Alyssa comes in. They get a call to the room, asking for "Miss Ashcroft" but the line disconnects and then the lights go out.

As soon as the lights go out, Alyssa immediately starts to panic, telling Grace that "they're coming," and they need to get out immediately. There's some cuts between the scenes as Alyssa, with a gun, tries to guide Grace out of the hotel. They make it to the lobby where they're greeted by the guy at the front desk, who's then immediately murdered by Not Vergil-- who, interestingly enough, kills him by putting a plastic bag over his head then immediately slitting his throat while Grace and Alyssa scream in horror-- in a very Batman 2022 Riddler-esque manner. There's also some kind of creepy shit going on with Not Vergil's skin-- it's not shown in the trailer, but it's apparently shown in the demo from what I've heard (take this with a grain of salt until that demo actually comes out), but his skin apparently melts off when he's exposed to light.

It jumps around a little again but Alyssa and Grace seemingly manage to escape Not Vergil and make it to some other room presumably in the hotel where Grace then proceed to have a panic attack. Alyssa promises she'll explain "everything" to Grace "one of these days" and the two cry together. They discuss how they need to find a way out, Grace panics again because they don't have any of their stuff, and then when she turns back around, Alyssa is murdered in front of her. It's the same style as before-- Not Vergil comes up behind her and presumably slits her throat. I say presumably because we don't actually get to see anything beyond like 5 frames but if you do watch it frame-by-frame you can see the blade, which looks like the same blade Not Vergil used earlier.

And that's it! The demo is currently playable but only at the event in Germany, so it looks like the rest of us will have to wait until the press embargo lifts tomorrow to get details on what's shown in the trailer, unless someone at the event leaks things tonight.

Overall, the new trailer didn't show all that much, but what it did show was interesting. We now know that Grace was with her mom at the hotel when she was murdered as opposed to just knowing about it, which is going to make it even worse for her when she gets sent back there by the government. We're also getting a lot more of a flashback than I originally anticipated. In the first trailer, we can see some warped shots of Alyssa, which we now know are Grace's memories, and it looks like we're gonna play through their attempted escape as well. This aligns with what got said about there being a small section where you play as Alyssa, but we'll have to wait for confirmation. I would assume the demo is going to be the gameplay portions between the cutscenes we saw in the trailer, but more info about that should hopefully be out soon!

Thus far, the only major criticism I have is that they've really got to work on the animation for the facial expressions. It's especially noticeable when Grace has the panic attack but everyone seems to lack any change in their facial expressions. Grace is crying, Alyssa is near-tears, yet you wouldn't know that if it weren't for the voice acting because their faces don't change, there's no emotion. I'm going to assume it's a similar to set up to previous RE game trailers where the footage they use for the trailers is from earlier builds, but given how long this game has been in production, I would've hoped we'd get more updated scenes.

Leon Kennedy

✿ The sun was brighter, the people were nicer, and the world was more...colourful. He would take nice, long walks on Santa Monica Pier to calm his mind, then he'd sit on the hot sand watching the sunset.
