Sorry for being late. Here is mine
The days after the aftermath were painful. Higuchi went out every day to revive some bodies. Or well..bringing them back. She had to avoid the port mafia and the ever growing suspicion people had of her. Students didn’t go to school and Higuchi was a bit popular around these parts of town. So seeing her walk around here obviously gave some suspicion.
Even so, Higuchi's goal is now to collect some dead bodies and revive them — bring them back to their past self. Reverting their time and memories like she had done many times before.
She walks past shops and people until ending at the graveyard. Some people still lingered but most were just ordinary people. Higuchi wouldn’t mind killing them if she had too.
“Let’s see…a shovel. Where can I find a shovel..?” Higuchi looks around before eventually finding one. “Got it.”
She walked over to one of the graves and began to dig. She was familiar with this. Her past self has done this several times with different comrades. It is difficult but for the sake of her own goals it’s fine.
Higuchi however did not see the boy in black watching her every move.
“Dazai-san. I found her.”

for the sake of context i posted the last paragraph i wrote in full lol. from chapter 1.3.2 of hateful eight, my next gen bsd fic:
“The Killer escaped,” Ryuunosuke says simply after a few moments. “He, unfortunately, went straight from the roof of this warehouse into the Yokohama bay. For obvious reasons, following him would have been… problematic, to say the least. And aside from that, the order we were given was primarily concerned with you two.” He shifts his pale gray gaze over to Junichi, his expression softening only a bit, so slightly it would be unnoticeable to those who were not familiar with him and his behavior.

Chapter 101 is pretty interesting.
*spoilers*
I highly doubt Chuuya and Fyodor are going to die. As interesting as that would be for the story, it would kind of be anti climatic to kill off one of the main villians just like that. I think what’s interesting in this chapter is Dazai showing that he did in fact care (just a little bit) for Chuuya. Tbh, (this is just my opinion) I don’t think their connection was really meaningful, but I think that Dazai realized in that moment that they did have some good times together and as much as he says he hates Chuuya, he doesn’t want him to be dead. While it’s clear from this chapter that Dazai cares a little bit, that sure does not stop him from putting Chuuya in harms way literally all the time 😂. Other than that I think this might be part of Dazai’s plan to get Fyodor to expose his ability, and it will be interesting how it all plays out.
Tumblr media
This panel makes me laugh though. He’s just like “good bye ✨”

And “you’re pretty sharp for someone who’s 3 years old “

Yeah it’s pretty clear Dazai doesn’t like Chuuya at all. Their dynamic pretty much is a hate/trust dynamic. Even so he held a minuscule of good times but it isn’t nearly as much compared to how he cares about Oda. Not only that but in Fifteen Dazai does go through a whole dialogue how quick sand can kill Chuuya. It’s nice to see how he uses that detail here

That’s Ango alright. Random but one of the best characters
Can we talk about how hilarious the concept of Ango is
(my opinion is probably biased 'cause he is my favourite)
But we're still talking about a guy with glasses bigger than his balls, he's on the verge of a constant mental breakdown, he's wearing the same suit that's probably never been washed in 4 years, he slicks his hair so much that it looks like Moses went over it
He drinks tomato juice when he goes to a bar & his favourite food is eel.
His ex-ex boss killed one of his only friends, his ex-boss looks like this :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His current boss is in a coma and has probably slept more in 2 months than Ango has in 5 years.
This is a man who is capable of philosophical reasoning without sleeping in 72h.
He suffers from hallucinations and paranoia when his sleep count is negative.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His loyalty is counted on the legs of a one-legged man.
And the only person who can be considered as his friend has already eaten dog food.
Tumblr media
I feel like the whole character was created in random mode 😃

Hmm I def think that he will die at some point in the series and Ango or another person had to take over as head. Solid analysis and theory
[[ BSD THEORY ]]
Today in this post I will explain :
Why I think Taneda Santouka premeditated his comatose state.
So to begin with I'm going to give a brief recap of who Taneda Santouka is, because even though he's a minor character I really enjoy talking about him.
[[ The military police and Special Division for Unusual Powers headed by Santouka Taneda (bald man) rule the day, the Port Mafia ruled by Mori rule the night, and the Armed Detective Agency led by Fukuzawa rule the evenings in between.]]
I want to make it clear that this is a lot of speculation and that it's been a long time since I read the manga so in my head everything is mixed up (seriously there's too much information)
xxxxxxxxxxx
For a very long time and still very recently I was convinced that if there was a character who had to die in the manga it would be him. But now I'm starting to doubt.
To understand my point of view you have to take three things into account.
How he is described by Fukuzawa :
"a ridiculous personality, a strange man in terms of a normal person."
(If anyone can tell me the source of this information, it comes from the wiki but in searching I could not find when Fukuzawa said this)
The fact that he knew in advance that he would be found (half dead)
And above all :
The disadvantages given by mental ability (explained by Ango)
(extremely important point)
xxxxxxxxxxx
[[ "a ridiculous personality, a strange man in terms of a normal person." ]]
So if there's one character I don't understand in the manga, it's Taneda Santouka, even Ango has trouble following his logic.
Tumblr media
In fact, Taneda is probably the most rational person (I think even more than Mori, who is attached to his little Elise)
He doesn't get attached to people in a personal way, for him what counts is the number of lives he can save (he is completely detached from his emotions, simply guided by his intellect and the "greater good" philosophy)
But the truth is that I think the only person he really has a bond and trust in is Ango Sakaguchi.
So Fukuzawa's description alone makes him an exceptional being with unpredictable actions so...
"Why did he go along with such an obvious trap ?! "
Indeed, why did Chief Taneda decide to meet the enemy voluntarily, without bodyguards or any other protections.
According to Ango it was the "terms of the contract"
That they (Taneda & Sigma) both had to come unaccompanied.
But what was to stop Taneda from taking a self-defense weapon (I mean Sigma stabbed Taneda in the heart with a knife so 🤡)
I think it's because Taneda planned that somehow after the meeting he would end up unconscious, let me explain myself....
Already we know that if Sigma decided to stab Taneda it was only a threat (go figure why he did it)
Tumblr media
It is true that he did not use a gun to kill him, but to stab him in the heart 🤨
Anyways...
But what was stopping Taneda from defending himself ?
I mean it's explicitly stated by Ango that he have "bury countless villainous ability users" due to his purely mental ability.
⭕ (the chief's ability is to understand abilities when they're activated nearby)
So when you don't have any means of self-defense, the least you can do is to know how to fight hand to hand (martial arts), to own a weapon, or to come accompanied.
It is true that Chief Taneda is 50 years old, he is getting old... BUT HE WEIGHS 98 KILOS AND IS 185CM TALL; Sigma is a fucking twig next to him (62 kilos, 177cm)
And I mean but LOOK AT THE CONFIGURATION 😃
Tumblr media
Sigma has no combat experience, I doubt Taneda became the leader of a branch of the government without being able to be strong in combat.
Yes the two of them while talking were close but I mean when a knife gets dangerously close to your heart the least you can do is push the weapon arm to the side and try to disarm ?
I'm sorry, but for me, I'm convinced Taneda let it happen.
xxxxxxxxxxx
Let us now turn to the second point :
[[ The fact that he knew in advance that he would be found (half dead) ]]
Ranpo knew that by going to this room he could get a clue to understand the purpose of the DOA.
Given his intellect he had to know where and when the meeting would take place and above all who is present.
However, he had not predicted that there would be a smell of blood and therefore casualties.
Tumblr media
So we can consider that Taneda acted in an illogical way by putting his own life in danger.
It is not known how much time passed between him being stabbed and being found by Ranpo. Let's assume from the blood on the ground at least several minutes.
What I find particularly amazing is that while being at the end of his life, Taneda did everything in his power to remain conscious, at least until someone came along.
He must have anticipated that someone was coming whether it was Ranpo (or someone else) and then gave him all the information he had obtained.
And if Taneda was really worried about his physical condition, he would have put it ahead instead of telling Ranpo to basically stfu.
Tumblr media
He probably knew in advance that he wouldn't be able to wake up afterwards.
xxxxxxxxxxx
And so we come to the most interesting (and most fucked up) point :
[[ Why did he decide to do this? ]]
(And my answer is...)
[[ To put himself out of the game ]]
Because in the manga, the events that take place are often described as a game of chess, Fyodor and Dazai being the masterminds behind it.
If Lucy is written as the Queen, Gogol as probably the Bishop and Sigma as the Rook (⭕ but one of the strongest players), then we can assume that Taneda is somehow the King of the Special Division.
This means that he is extremely important, needs to be protected but has very few movement possibilities (an extremely limited piece of chess)
So why did he decide to take himself out of the game?
To give his power to Ango (who is his second-in-command)
Because yes, despite the fact that Ango has been in the game for a long time, we don't know what role he plays.
We can suppose that he is a pawn, a knight, we don't know.
But Taneda, by sacrificing his position as head of the division, has given Ango more "moves".
Yes it has its risks, but now Ango is in charge, and is much more influential than before.
Tumblr media
And because of his new position, he has more protections by his side to "maintain the King" (the role of the bodyguards Murakoso and Aoki, who were not present when Taneda was "taken")
If Taneda is the King and Sigma is the Rook, we can really imagine that Taneda's defence was null during the game (the meeting).
Because when you think about it, Taneda has influence but very few contacts, unlike Ango who has collaborated with the ADA, the Mafia and who knows them personally (most of the important members)
By this gesture, Taneda hopes that Ango will have all the chances to win the game.
xxxxxxxxxxx
[[ And about his coma and ability ?? ]]
So to understand this part, I need to define several things :
The course of an open heart operation + follow-up
Artificial coma
Glasgow scale
Locked-in syndrome
As far as Taneda's case is concerned, we have two pieces of information:
He had a major operation, probably on his heart. So I think he must have had open heart surgery.
How does the operation work ?
First of all, this operation requires the evacuation of the blood contained in the heart.
To compensate for the lack of oxygenation of the body and normal blood circulation, the patient is then placed in hypothermia (32 to 34 degrees instead of 37, to put the brain at rest and avoid the appearance of irreversible after-effects) (ice ice baby 🥶) or connected to a pump that allows the blood circulation to be maintained artificially.
The surgeons can then proceed with the operation.
Depending on the procedure performed, open heart surgery can last from less than 3 hours to more than 8 hours.
Is it painful ?
No, it is performed under general anaesthesia, so the patient feels no pain when asleep.
When the patient wakes up, they may feel chest pain, which can be more or less severe.
An adapted medical treatment (analgesics, opiates....) is prescribed to the patient (a good cocktail 🤪)
As a rule, a patient undergoing open-heart surgery is hospitalized for several days in intensive care -
After the operation you will be taken to the intensive care ++ unit (this is a hospital unit when the patient needs heavy respiratory assistance, therefore more serious than intensive care -), where the medical team will take care of you for the monitoring of the respiratory conditions, cardiac, renal... Thanks to different devices.
[[ I should point out that I got all this information from the health care system of my country but it is probably the same in Japan ]]
[[ I speak of intensive care ++ and intensive care - because in French we have two different words so the degree of severity is different "réanimation" > "soins intensifs"]]
You will then have drains to evacuate blood that may escape from the sutures of the course, and a tube is placed in the trachea and connected to a ventilator to make you breathe.
Painkillers will be systematically given to ease the pain; this stops after a few days (2 to 4 days)
Tumblr media
When you wake up, you will gradually breathe on your own helped by the machine, then you will able to breathe w/o the assistance of the machine.
And when you are fully awake, the nurse will stop the machine and remove the tube from your trachea.
The risk of surgery is conditioned by the importance of the procedure to be performed, the state of your heart muscle, your age and your general condition.
We don't have Taneda's health history but I think he suffers from alcoholism (although we have no proof other than the fact that he likes sake)
The total duration of the hospitalization is on average 8 to 10, that is to say that after Taneda stayed at least one week in the hospital; the Special Division decided to put him next to Ango (which I absolutely do not understand, we do not even know if he has a follow-up)
Tumblr media
So we can be sure that he was out for at least a week.
To summarise briefly because even I get lost :
He is operated 👨‍⚕️
Then he is put in intensive care ++, shot up with drugs so that he doesn't feel pain (artificial coma)
Then the doctors reduce the painkillers and he is supposed to wake up (spoilers : he did not 😃)
Taneda didn't wake up after 40 hours, which means that he has been fallen in a "classic" coma for an indefinite period of time (two weeks ?) under the supervision of Ango.
The assessment of coma (artificial or not) is based on a specific scale, the Glasgow Scale, which ranges from 3 to 15.
Three criteria are determined, eye opening, verbal response and motor response; the higher the score the less deep the coma.
A score of 3 means no response at all.
When a patient's vital signs return to normal in an artificial coma, doctors gradually begin to reduce the administration of sedatives and raise the body temperature.
Since Taneda is with Ango, I believe that Taneda is no longer in an induced coma, otherwise he would have continued to be under close medical supervision.
Given the criteria for Taneda's condition, it's a good bet he's in a deep coma or clinically dead 6 to 3.
What might have helped us determine the state of his coma is his position.
Tumblr media
If he was in one of these two positions it would have been a very bad prognosis with a high risk of cardio respiratory arrest.
Unfortunately a blanket hides his body but I don't think he's in either position, so that's a good sign 👍
xxxxxxxxxxx
[[ So why is he still in a coma ? ]]
Well, I think his physical condition and his ability are two decisive factors.
So this is the part where I have the most to say but will ramble the most.
As we know in bsd physical abilities can cause physical problems, so it's not surprising that mental abilities cause mental problems.
What is extremely interesting is that in a chapter, Ango explained that when a brain receives too much information to process, it can fall unconscious. (it happened to Ango when he was using his power)
What if Taneda knew in advance that the information given by Sigma thanks to his ability (difficult to digest for his brain) would knock him out.
That being stabbed suits him because it puts him directly out of the game (he's not thought of as a threat anymore) but in the end he knew that in any case he wouldn't come out of the room conscious.
When Atsushi was touched by Sigma ability, he passed out for a while, but Taneda received some extremely important information and maybe it was too much for his brain to process. + the fact that he was stabbed didn't help.
So I think that in addition to being in a deplorable physical state, the information obtained pushed him into a coma state.
But then why can't he wake up ?
Even Ango was convinced that Taneda would not be able to regain consciousness for a long time (I don't know the subtleties of the English language so for me this sentence means that Ango assumed that Taneda would be unconscious for at least 80 hours)
Tumblr media
What would be particularly advantageous is that Taneda suffers from a locked-in syndrome, he is trapped in his body, cannot physically do anything but is aware of his surroundings...
So being near Ango allows him, even if he can be considered dead, to get information (phone call between Ango and the Prime Minister).
While being a mummy, he has plenty of time to think of strategies (if he wakes up afterwards ofc 😃)
But if this turns out to be true, I doubt Ango knew about his plan, it would have distorted Ango's judgment.
Taneda has given away his crown, now all the cards are in Ango's hands 👥
It's always possible that Taneda wakes up, whether it's by Yosano's ability or just a rather powerful trigger (Ango explained that "there are cases where an external stimulus, such as a sting or a strike, triggers a recovery")
(when Atsushi had memory problems)
And let's face it, if we waited 30 chapters just to know that he was in a stable state, it shows that he might wake up at some point, otherwise he would have already been declared dead 🤨
xxxxxxxxxxx
And then I want to come back to one last point.
Why didn't Taneda kill Sigma when he had the opportunity ?
I mean he explicitly told Ango that if he comes across a DOA member he has to kill him, so why didn't Taneda do it when he had the chance.
Already because he needed to be realistically hurt (stab stab)
But mostly I think Taneda played on Ango's resentment.
Even though we don't know much about the relationship between the two, I think they are very close (I'm sure Ango lied when he said "the chief and I weren't that close")
If he knows Ango's mentality, he knows that Ango would have done anything to avenge Taneda.
Leaving Sigma alive would have made more sense because one, Sigma has an ability that could be EXTREMELY useful for the Special Division, killing him would be a waste.
And it fueled Ango's determination to do anything to stop the criminals (knowing that he was originally reluctant to kill them).
"When the Chief wakes up, I'll hand him my completed case report..."
"Every single one of the culprits will die by my hands"
That's why I think Sigma will end up joining the Special Powers Division (against his will)
Ango will force him to join the organisation (by blackmailing him) "either work for us or die"
So if the Special Division loses Taneda, they will have gained a valuable asset in return (Sigma ability)
xxxxxxxxxxx
Damn, that was long to write 😃🔫
If I made this theory it's already to reassure myself that Taneda Santouka will survive (because if he dies I'll be devastated 🤡🤙)
And I wanted to talk about the fact that I think Sigma won't come to work for the ADA but the Government.
The part with all the medical information is a real mess I'm sorry, all that to say that the man is knocked out 🤯

The part with all the medical information is a real mess I'm sorry, all that to say that the man is knocked out 🤯
I'll tag the people who liked my post "Tonight I will wrote my rant / theory" and my mutuals who I think would be interested in reading this :)

sometimes the best fanfics are written by middle aged adults with years of writing experience who simply know how to craft a good story. but also sometimes the best fanfics are written by a sixteen year old girl with something deeply wrong with her

i think one of the most frustrating things about people assigning odasaku as dazai’s father is that if odasaku truly considered dazai as one of his kids then he wouldn’t go on a suicide mission to avenge them because, hey, he still has one kid left
but that’s not what happened because dazai was never part of the equation
and upon his death, odasaku admitted that dazai was his best friend
“but what about when odasaku pointed out that dazai always looks like a child on the verge of crying?” well you see that’s a poetic way to say that dazai is traumatized. an allegory that is also used in BEAST

so like, it’s weird to interpret their relationship as anything less than equals
even if they’re your notp, there’s no need to make up reasons that odasaku only sees dazai as a child, since they’re already not dating in canon
