izzy's car was fucked. it usually was, but today it was extra fucked. she'd been dropping it off, had kind of resigned herself to being late to work as it was, and figured there was no harm in a cigarette before she took off to try to find a way to the salon. she had one in her mouth and was patting down her jacket pockets for a lighter when she noticed maeve. she didn't mean to stare, she just so happened to sometimes. it had gotten her into trouble once or twice, but not enough to stop training her eyes on anyone that interested her. "uh," she went back to work fumbling in her pockets before producing one proudly, like she'd just won an oscar. "here y'go."
SHE WAS WELL AWARE of her own bad habits , cigarettes being one of the most egregious of them , and yet , in a time of a killer on the loose in town who could possibly judge ? sitting outside on her break from work , maeve could hardly think of anything else. thoughts of that poor girl and hopes that nothing like that happens again ran through her mind as she went through the familiar motions of pulling the pack out of her pocket before quickly discovering her lighter to be EMPTY. ' goddamn it , ' she signed to herself before noticing the feeling of someone else's eyes trained on her. ' hey , do you have a light ? ' gesturing to the failing lighter in the case they weren't fluent in asl , her fingers crossed they would get the gist at the very least and be the kind soul she was looking for in a moment of need.

admittedly, izzy had a bit of a drinking problem. it was all in the name of fun, of course, but it was something that she figured she'd have to address eventually. just not today. "it was gruesome," she sighed, planning on attributing at least some of her day drinking on the situation. "uh, just a vodka soda, i guess." drumming her fingers on the bar top, she played with words in her head, trying to find something to say, before settling on, "how's your morning? besides the murder," it seemed like a pretty safe question.
open ! where: local bar
it’s a little insane that the local bar opens as early as it does, nevertheless, benjy is there if not a little just… hungover, not from alcohol itself but just sheer tiredness that feels just about as painful as a hangover. believe it or not, the local bartender didn’t partake in much drinking, but shit at home was not going great, he had a whopping medical bill to pay for his dad’s home healthcare worker and he looked at their accounts last night and it wasn’t going all too great on top of their kitchen sink just absolutely breaking, spraying water everywhere. shit piled up, and by the time he opened the doors and checked restock and turned on the goddamn television a murder happened over night. or early day. either way, it was all over the television and he leaned back against the bar to look up at the screen and said, “shit,” before turning to face the customer. “well that’s cheery,” he mumbles underneath his breath, just what this town needed really. “what can i get for you?”

the world kept on turning, although to izzy, it felt like it shouldn't have. she still had clients, all the businesses were open, it was like if you couldn't see the looks on everyone's faces, you wouldn't even believe it had happened. "hey." she hardly had an appetite, couldn't even bring herself to have her morning cup of tea, but figured she should get something to hold her over throughout what was guaranteed to be an exhausting day. "crazy, huh?"
𝐒𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐒 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍, she recognised the face. the mathers were well enough known to recognise to poor girl in the pavillion. and as tragic as it was, for madeline, the day must continue and so with a heavy heart she opened the doors of brew and bake, offering a small smile as someone walked through the door. ❛ morning. ❜ but there was a lack of cheer that she usually held.

izzy felt sick to her stomach. she'd made it to town just in time to see the horrific display, hand covering her gaping mouth. she wasn't able to focus or think about anything as she watched the body be placed on a stretcher, into a bag. the sound of the word 'sister' snapped her back to life, and her eyes flitted around for a moment before landing on cecilia. she'd been in her class during school, knew her from growing up in the same town, and while she was pretty sure she was overstepping, she hurried over to the other. "cece," she spoke softly, just enough to be heard among the nervous clamor of the other glen ellen residents. "cece, come on, being here's not gonna do you any good." it was hardly the same, but all she could think about was the fire, wishing someone was there to take her away. all izzy wanted was to help.
𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐃. in this moment, the peaceful sunrise was ruined by the distraught phone call. phone screen now cracked as it lays on the dirt path, left behind as her feet carried her across town, away from the hiking paths and into the centre of town, just in time to see them wheel the body away in a bag. ❛ they're just lying. ❜ she mutters to herself. delusion setting in. abbi was at home, tucked into her bed like always, this was a sick joke. ❛ no. no. no. ❜ as her sisters bloodied wrist, dawned in the matching bracelet they both had, falls from the coverings. ❛ this can't be happening, let me through. ❜ but the police, paramedics, who ever that stood around on kept her back. ❛ let me go, that's my sister. ❜

"fresh air," izzy laughs out loud, glancing between the stomped out cigarette on the ground and safiye. "well, i was being quite counterproductive, huh?" squatting down, careful to mind her short skirt, she picked up the butt, "but if i toss the cigarette butts, what will the woodland creatures eat?" she joked, more for her own sake than for the other's - she was a regular comedian in her own mind. she glances around for a trash bin, contemplates just eating it to dispose of the evidence, before spotting a garbage can and plopping it inside. "ta-da!"
brows raise slightly, watching as the panic sets in on the other, of course, safiye could care less about what other people choose to do with their bodies and that included smoking ( well as long as it wasn't on school grounds at the very least, then she would say something ) ❛ as long as you pick that up, and toss it, it's all good. ❜ the teacher mused jokingly. ❛ and i'll pass on the offer, i just came out here to grab some fresh air. ❜

relief spreads across her face, and she fumbles in her pockets to find her lighter. she laughs as she produces one, stolen from a friend for the playboy embellishment that adorned it, and offers it up. "have at it." fidgeting with a ring, she smiles a little. "i'm usually not so jumpy, sorry for going full paranoid there."
a cheeky smile spreads across their face, they hadn't met to cause the other to startle, in fact, they only really were coming over to borrow a lighter, her refillable one's gas had ran out this morning, and nyx was never one to buy cheap ones that would be wasted. ❛ got my own, thanks. but can i borrow i light ? ❜

a small sigh of relief left izzy's lips, happy not to have disrupted a clean breather's air. it quickly turned to disappointment, though, as she looked down at the half smoked cigarette, lying flat on the pavement like it had been walked over by thousands of pairs of feet. a travesty. if she'd have been seventeen, she might've picked it up, tried to salvage it, but at twenty-six, it felt kind of silly to. and with company? no chance. "one day they're gonna figure out how to melt all those down and make them into cars for, like, three legged dogs, or something. and then you'll be a real hero." she knew everyone in town was on edge, they all had some strong feelings about what had transpired. a lot of her clients had come in lately ready to point fingers or gossip about what had happened. "how are you?" she asked, genuine concern evident in her voice. it was a casual question, left open air for him to talk about something mundane or the thing weighing on everyone's mind.

around ninety percent of the time, izzy would consider herself a good person. she picked up litter. she was kind to animals. never rude to children or the elderly. when she was smoking a cigarette, though, she considered herself bad. not bad, per se, even though that's how she'd probably describe it, but cool bad. like danny zuko in grease bad. "oh, fuck," she'd been so lost in her cool girl thoughts that she hadn't noticed the person standing just a few feet away from her. she dropped the half smoked cigarette to the ground and promptly stomped it out like it had done her wrong - which, i guess in a way, it had. "i didn't mean to like, pollute your air or anything. i promise." she looked at her feet for a second before looking up at her company - whether or not they'd intended to join her didn't matter, they were her friend now. "unless you want one? in which case, live your truth. it's a beautiful day to hack up a lung."

isabelle “izzy” fitz. twenty-six. nightmare baby.
the clinking of ring clad fingers. containing multitudes. “girls who lived with their grandmas are real.” falling in love with strangers. the gossipy hairdresser stereotype personified. owner of at least sixteen pairs of sunglasses. chain smoker. sex as self harm. laughs because if she doesn’t she’ll cry. never not running from something.
isabelle fitz’s parents were not ready for children. they could barely handle themselves, spending most days after their twins were born ashing cigarettes into empty baby bottles and assuming that things would be “just fine.”
izzy’s brother noah was a colicky baby. the twins were with their parents in the rundown house in chicago for two months before noah’s crying got to be too much and the two were promptly shipped off to their grandmother’s small farm home in glen ellen. she lived there alone, largely dismissed as a crazy old lady. she spent most of her time feeding her sheep and tending to her garden.
izzy and noah were incredibly different children. izzy could talk to a brick wall. she was excited by most things, bounced off the walls, and could generally have fun anywhere. noah was quiet, usually letting his sister talk for him, and would much prefer to sit in his room and read than go to any of the wild parties his sister would attend.
when izzy was seventeen, the farm house burned down. it was a whole to-do, and was determined to have been an intentional fire. most people assumed it was set by noah. he was an easy one to blame, and he never denied it.
[redacted]
when high school came to an end, izzy didn’t really know what to do. she wasn’t very good in any of her classes, would’ve much preferred to marry rich and settle down in a gorgeous mcmansion in some quiet suburb and raise three kids, who she’d lovingly name mason. all three of them.
so she went to cosmetology school. she found a real love for hair and style, and stuck with it, which she very rarely does with hobbies and tasks. she works at tres beux now.
personality wise, izzy is super outgoing, personable. loves to be loved, generally speaking, and will go to great lengths to feel liked, or even loved. sometimes she’s not sure who she really is any more, because she’s so focused on being who she thinks someone else wants her to be. sometimes she gives off an almost manic pixie dream girl vibe in a more chaotic way just to appeal to those around her. she’s volatile and impulsive, doing whatever feels good in the moment with little regard for the later consequences. a lot of this includes heavy substance abuse and a lot of sleeping with people just to feel loved.
she hasn’t seen her parents since she was twelve. they sometimes send her birthday cards, but they’re usually about a week late and hastily scribbled on. a quick “have a good yr” at most. her grandmother died two and a half years ago, celebrated by a small funeral and leaving to izzy her flower beds and about twenty dollars. she lives in a trailer now.
i am a mess for wanted connections im so sorry but i love to brainstorm. also i’m sorry this is nawt my best work but my brain is scrambled eggs trying to put izzy into words. iykyk.
here’s her pinterest. here’s her playlist. here’s her musing tag. here’s her wc inspo tag.
