          🍃Jacen Solo + Tenel Ka Djo 🌊

A long time ago we found this program where you could take photos you had and warp/animate them to make them cinemagraphs.

We've always wanted to actually try to make cinemagraphs ourselves (where we actually record a video and turn it into a still frame/photo with a few small moving parts) but we have no idea where to start... which is how we ended up messing around with this program some years ago! We found these buried in our in-progress folder and thought we'd post them~ :D

       “Perhaps, but it would be wise to be sure,” Tenel Ka said, glancing in Jacen’s direction. “Do you feel any more?”        Jacen reached out to see if he could locate any other creatures. It took a moment, but he finally located a large group of presences several hundred meters up the canyon.        “There are more,” he reported. “A half a dozen, at least. They seem to be kind of stunned and wary.”        “Good,” Tenel Ka said. “Then that will give us plenty of time to go the other way.”

We were going back through some of the old posts for this project and dang, we had really forgotten how much fun we were having with the modern AU for them. It's so goofy but entertaining (also jacen with all his catssssss). :3

    “You know you absolutely cannot post this photo anywhere, correct?”     “Ugh, I know. Political matters, families, blah blah blah. Just let me pretend we’re allowed to be normal for once. And it’s not just any photo, it’s called a selfie.”     “That sounds ridiculous. Who came up with that?”

A section on the SwG project website is Alternate Universes – one of which will be a modern day spin on Jacen & Tenel Ka called “Yesterday In A Galaxy Next Door” and it’ll include Jacen the photography nerd plus his pets as well as his super secret girlfriend TK – both of whom would rather not be in the public eye but usually are thanks to the politicians in their families. So if you see any photos here (or on the instagram/pinterest/site) with that title in them, they’re part of the modern day AU, which will be looked into more in-depth on the site in the near future!

Sleeping With Ghosts 🍂         – a Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus + Tenel Ka Djo multimedia project

[ We originally were posting the tumblr updates for this project on our general/cosplay tumblr but the whole thing has grown so much bigger than we originally intended so we gave it its own tumblr home where you will find all sorts of photos/photosets, costume work and other craziness (all kinds of it) that happens to fall under the Sleeping With Ghosts (and/or Jacen & Tenel Ka stuff by us) umbrella. You’ll also find us fiddling with a new theme at some point, making a tag list and reposting some of our old stuff (as well as a bunch of new stuff)! It seems like we started this whole thing just yesterday after talking about it for 5+ years! ٩( ᐛ )و ]

⠀⠀The gardens outside of the Queen Mother's chambers were empty of suitors, much to said ruler's delight, and she emerged onto the balcony overlooking them to find Jacen staring out towards the faraway Hapan oceans. ⠀⠀Lights from the fountains below danced over the palace architecture, hitting the man's brow as Tenel Ka leaned on his shoulder and heard a quiet question leave his lips. ⠀⠀Even after ruling 63 planets for over a decade, dealing with trade routes and Hapan council issues and what to do with assassins her grandmother had sent... what Jacen Solo had asked her was one of the most loaded questions she had ever heard anyone ask.

⟿  Happy Star Wars Day!

⠀⠀A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away lol sorry i always gotta, there was a Jacen Solo & Tenel Ka Djo fanart shared on DeviantArt called Lovers by saith100. We were both absolutely in love with it and wanted to do a photo inspired by it for our original J/TK photo set (which later spiraled out of control and turned into the full-fledged multimedia project this journal covers). Then life got in the way. :P

⠀⠀Recently, saith100 did an updated version of this art and we realized that we had never done the photo we planned/wanted to do! We reached out to him to ask if it was okay and he gave us the go-ahead and we used what we could to create something inspired by the art we fell in love with years ago!

⠀⠀(We say inspired by cause we changed some things — hex Does Not like her profile so Tenel Ka is more face-on to the camera, we thought it being more dusky vs. the middle of day fit the vibe of a photo version better... also, hey, Hapan nights aren't that dark so maybe it's actual night, hehe. This was a lot of fun to try/do though!)

⠀It happened all at once. ⠀The power source in Tenel Ka’s lightsaber gave a shriek of electrical overload—and the blade winked out like a snuffed candle. Sparks and smoke poured from the end of the handle where an energy blade should have glowed. ⠀Suddenly, encountering no resistance as Jacen thrust with his last reserves of strength, the emerald green lightsaber sliced through the opening where Tenel Ka’s own blade had been just a moment before—plunging down to the only thing that stood in its way. ⠀Tenel Ka felt a line of blazing agony sweep across her arm just above the elbow. It burned… and yet below the burn she felt only a sickening, horrible coldness—a bone-deep chill like none she had ever felt before. ⠀Somehow her lightsaber thumped on the ground with a soft thud. Impossibly, she saw her hand clenching the carved rancor’s tooth. Sparks the size of lightning bolts flashed around the handle as her weapon exploded in a burst of blinding light. ⠀Bright. So very bright… ⠀Tenel Ka felt a dizzying haze swirling up to engulf her. Everything was so confusing. Jacen screamed something she couldn’t understand. Tenel Ka hoped intensely that she had not hurt him. ⠀ ⠀Jaina, Lowbacca, and Master Skywalker all ran toward her, shouting, but Tenel Ka couldn’t find the energy to stay upright any longer. Just as Jacen reached a hand out toward her, she felt herself falling to the ground. ⠀Then the pain and shock were completely swallowed up in blackness.

[ NOTE: We had to take some artistic liberties here because Tenel Ka's arm falls, the saber explodes and takes her arm with it, AND THEN she falls over. But that didn't work for the way we were thinking of doing these photos so we apologize for that little change! D: ]

Happy Valentine's Day from us goofing off (and also from our height difference woo)! We thought about a mushy post for today but settled for some behind-the-scenes asshattery from over the years instead because you should always be able to goof off with the ones you love. ;)

(Also, Jacen's jokes are totally a love language come on lololololololololololololol)

       After the lightsaber accident, in the days before they all joined Tenel Ka on Hapes, Jacen found himself drifting around the woods outside of the Jedi Temple, alone and listless. His mind whirled with guilt and fear as he mentally repeated the same questions to himself.        Could he have stopped his swing? If he hadn't been so desperate to impress her with his skills, could he have realized her lightsaber wasn't working correctly before it shorted out?        Little did he know that years later, Tenel Ka would wander the grounds of Reef Fortress, the same place they spent time together after the accident, in the same state of mind. She had become the Queen Mother of Hapes and he had been taken by the Yuuzhan Vong, presumably killed.        What could she have done differently? Could she have saved him? Kept him from going with Vergere if she had just stood her ground?

Throwback to 2017 when we made a post for the modern Alternate Universe where Jacen and Tenel Ka went to Jaina Solo's Halloween party as a snake and Merida from Brave. ;)

One of the things we always pondered regarding post-Return of the Jedi Jedi were their robes -- prequel Jedi robes were kind of boring can we get SOME FUN ONES IN HERE PLS? Corran Horn had green ones, though. So that's something. ;)

Because of that train of thought we always talked about making Jedi robes for Jacen & Tenel Ka that would reflect them more as characters. We got the basic parts and then split off -- with Jacen's we went for more of an animal-catching, nature boy feel while Tenel Ka's had a reptile print for the tabards, reptile fabric boots, details with beads and small sharp teeth, and some scaled handguards!

We don't have any photos of the Jacen robes because when we took these photos at Katsucon 2017 Nate didn't have pants for his Jacen robes yet and we didn't want you know... pantless Jedi running around. :| SO ONE DAY SOON, HOPEFULLY. (We need to fix the animal-friendly nature-boy belt thing, too. Hehe.)
