Who are Link's main caregivers?
Before Calamity, it was mainly Mipha and sometimes Zelda. Him and Zelda weren't too close and Zelda got annoyed by him easily, but when it came to regression, she was alright caring for her knight.
Mipha was a good caregiver for him before she met her demise. She often tried to get Zelda to help her care for Link too, just to get her used to being nicer to the knight.
After Calamity it was Zelda, Sidon, and rarely Purah. Since Purah is basically like Zelda's sister, she has taken on the role of "auntie" whenever he's regressed. Sidon takes on the name "Sidey" and rarely "dada".

Storm wreck
Summary: Link has a panic attack when a thunderstorm rolls in and slips.
Notes: takes place after BOTW. slight implication of sh. also the title was inspired by a dnd campaign.
It was a fine evening in Link and Zelda’s small household. Zelda was reading a book in a soft armchair downstairs while Link worked on more whittling crafts up in the loft. They were each having a relaxing time to themselves. Link was really deep into the wooden duck toy he was making and didn’t realize the dark clouds enveloping Hateno Village.
Just when Link thought he was about done with the first stage of the duck and was about to get onto the painting, a bright flash came from outside followed by a crash and Link shot up from his desk. It was all muscle memory. All he could think was that there was a guardian nearby and he needed to get Zelda somewhere safe. He couldn’t even breathe. He grabbed the master sword and ran downstairs and grabbed Zelda by the wrist.
“Link? What’s going-” She couldn’t even finish her sentence before she was dragged under the staircase.
“G-guardian. Nearby. We need to hide, we need to get safe,” He kept muttering, his breathing growing uneven.Another crash and bad memories were suddenly brought back. From the countless guardian attacks during his journey to save Zelda to the time he was killed by them. He could see black spots in his vision as his breathing became ragged, short, and desperate for air.
Zelda was confused as to why he was panicking before she realized how similar the storm sounded to a guardian. Except for the piano music, the loud booms and flashes were almost identical to the guardians laser beams.
“Link, Link, hey, there’s no guardian. It’s just the storm,” Zelda placed a soft hand on his wrist, trying to calm him down. However, he saw a bright flash come from the window followed by a boom which only got him more worked up.
“No, no, no. Is gonna get us. Not safe,” He hyperventilated, his words becoming more slurred as his mindset started to go down. He could feel himself going younger and younger but couldn’t stop himself. It was too late. Zelda could sense him starting to slip. She needed to get him calmed down before he was going to hurt himself.
“Link, sweetheart, baby, listen to me. There’s no guardian. We deactivated them all. You are safe.” Zelda held his face, forcing him to look at her. Another flash and he jerked his head, but she held it facing towards her.
“No, no, don’t look outside, look at me. I’m here, you’re safe,” Zelda said, “Now, can you take some deep breaths for me, baby boy?”
Link shook his head, a couple tears leaking out of his eyes. He couldn’t. He still felt like a guardian was nearby and going to hurt them. The panic had already made a home in Link’s chest. His heart raced and he fell to the floor, dropping the master sword and curling up in a ball. He hated that he couldn’t protect Zelda, but at that moment, he couldn’t focus on that. He felt like he, himself, was about to die. Like he was going to explode from a guardian beam. He hated how selfish it was, but he couldn’t help it.
“You can, I know you can, sweetie.” Zelda crouched down to him. She dug around the storage under the stairs until she found Link’s teddy. She handed the stuffed bear to him and he gladly took it, hugging it close to his chest.
Another crash and Link yelped. He covered his ears and let out a sob. Zelda frantically looked around, trying to find something that’ll help. She hated to do this, but she ripped a small piece of her dress off and ripped it into two pieces. She bundled it up and gently removed Link’s hands from his ears and stuck the bundled up cloth into his ears.
“Baby, is that better?” Zelda asked, slowly wiping away his tears, her voice muffled to the boy. Link nodded as he started calming down a little now that the thunder wasn't quite as loud.
“Alright, let’s take some deep breaths now, okay?” Zelda said. Link nodded before she started demonstrating the breathing. He followed her instructions, jumping and flinching every now and then when the thunder and flash of lighting went off.
When he finally calmed down, he crashed into Zelda’s arms, bawling. He was so frustrated and mad at himself for letting himself get all worked up like that over a small storm, but he was also so scared and afraid and just wanted his mama to make everything better again.
“Oh Link… Shhh it’s okay, you’re alright,” She reassured him softly, holding him close to her chest. She gently rubbed the back of his head as she held it against her collar bone as his tears soaked up that part of her dress.
She held him for a couple of minutes as he cried. She moved the master sword away from them to prevent Link from accidentally (or purposely) hurting himself.
When Link’s tears came to a stop and his sobs turned into sniffles, he started sucking on his thumb, a nervous habit he started doing when he first started involuntarily regressing. Zelda gently removed his hand from his mouth and rummaged around to hopefully find his pacifier. They usually kept his little stuff underneath the stairs, it just often got lost with all the other storage they had under there. Luckily, she found it, but it was looking a little dirty so she carefully removed Link from her lap. The small boy whined and looked like he was about to start crying again.
“It’s okay, sweetie. I’m just gonna wash your paci and then grab some blankets and pillows, alright?” Zelda explained, “I’ll just be up on the loft,”
Link pouted but nodded, knowing she was just going to grab some stuff to make him more comfortable.
Zelda kissed his forehead before slowly walking away to the kitchen sink and washing his paci. It was a pastel green and white pacifier. The shield, button, and handle was made out of a thin piece of carved and sanded wood and the nipple was a soft piece of rubber fit to his mouth. After she washed it, she came back to the stairs and placed it in his mouth before going upstairs and grabbing the bedding and pillows. She walked back down and placed the blanket down underneath them and placed the pillows against the wall and a wooden box.
“How old are you feeling, sweetheart?” She asked. She needed to know in case he wanted to take a nap. Whenever Link was younger than 3, he sometimes needed to use some sort of padding.
Link held up two fingers before flinching when he saw a bright light from the corner of his eye. Zelda let out a small sigh, knowing it would be best if he was padded, just in case. So she grabbed a cloth nappy from a storage box and laid Link down.
“I’m going to get you changed real quick, alright? I’ll be super fast,” Zelda promised. Link nodded and let her get him changed. Usually, he was a bit more fussy when he needed to wear padding but she guessed that he was just exhausted.
When he was all changed, she laid down with him on the comfortable blanket fort they created and held him softly. He snuggled up with her and took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. However, he shuddered when he heard a muffled crash.
“Shh, it’s okay, Link, you’re safe,” Zelda told him, holding him tightly. The reassurance made him feel a bit better. He smiled a little and nuzzled his face into her neck.
They snuggled up with each other for the rest of the evening, keeping each other safe and sound underneath the staircase.

What age range is Link?
He is 1-4 but stays mostly in the 2-4 range. Rarely will he go 1, but it does happen. He doesn't like being so young because he has a hard time with motor skills, emotions, and stuff like that. But Zelda really tries to get him to be comfortable with his younger side.

Summary: Link wakes up from a nightmare small but doesn't want Zelda to know. He tries to hide it throughout the morning but fails.
Notes: Takes place after botw but before tears of the kingdom.
It had been about 2 months since the fall of Calamity Ganon and Link was not adjusting well. He and Zelda moved into a house in Hateno. However, He was constantly dealing with panic attacks (though he hid most of them), sleepless nights, and survivor’s guilt. Ever since he found out about how he was the only Champion to survive the calamity, survivor’s guilt had plagued him. But it seemed a lot worse now that he had spent the last 2 months resting.
This night was like any other. Link tossed and turned in bed until his body physically couldn’t stay awake anymore and he’d pass out due to exhaustion, only to be woken by horrible nightmares. The nightmares he’s had were either about Ganon coming back, the Champions being upset with him, or about something happening to Zelda. That night, it was about Zelda.
Link had woken up with a gasp, shooting upwards from him and Zelda’s mattress. Hyperventilating, he looked around to take in his surroundings. He knew he was in his house, but he still didn’t feel safe. Suddenly, the vulnerable, small feeling crept up on him and now he was feeling a drop in mindset. He balled the sheets in his fist and tried to resist it. He couldn’t regress now! Not when Zelda still needed protecting. If anything were to happen to her… he wouldn’t know what to do with himself. No matter how many times Zelda told him that Ganon wasn’t coming back, Link didn’t believe it. He still thought something bad would happen to her. Afterall, he left her for 100 years.
“Mm… Link? Are you alright?” Zelda rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she started to wake up. Link quickly looked around, trying to find something to use as an excuse so she wouldn’t worry. He knows she knows about the nightmares and wants to do something to help, but he really doesn’t want to worry her. He looked out the window and saw the sun rising and knew he could use that. So he took a few deep breaths and spoke.
“Yeah, wanted to wake up early…” He forced out of his throat. It was so hard to speak but he couldn’t let Zelda think something was wrong.
“I think I’ll join you then. I want to get in some more research with Purah today,” Zelda said, sitting up. Link didn’t have the strength to argue, so he got out of bed with her.
They started their morning routine together and got ready for the day. Link was having some troubles putting on his tunic and such and it worried Zelda. To her, he looked…disregulated and stressed. She wondered if he had another nightmare.
“How’d you sleep?” She asked while they walked downstairs into the kitchen, hoping he’d be truthful about it
“Fine,” Link mumbled after shrugging. Zelda didn’t believe him but knew interrogating him would just make him feel bad.
Link went over to the cooking pot to start making breakfast. He wanted to help out, show Zelda that he was useful and not some weak baby like he thought he was.
“Hold on, sweetheart, I got breakfast. You just relax, alright?” She stepped in front of him. What happened next basically gave away Link.
“But I wanna help…” He pouted. Now Zelda knew he was regressed. The boy almost never pouted. Not when he was big at least. Her face softened as she came to this realization.
“I know you do, sweetie, but little ones such as yourself don’t need to worry about cooking,” She patted his head.
“M not little!” He raised his voice, not having the big kid filter to keep his inside voice on. Not only that, but his voice was very croaky, telling Zelda it was forced out.
“Shh, it’s okay, Link.” Zelda tried to calm him down.
“Is-is n-n-not!” He barely got out.
“Can you sign to me how you’re feeling?” Zelda said, kneeling down. Link’s face was red with frustration but he started signing anyways.
‘I’m supposed to protect you from Ganon. I can’t do that if I’m a stupid baby.’ He signed.
“Link, sweetheart, Ganon is dead. He’s not coming back. And you aren’t a stupid baby. You may be my baby but you aren’t stupid,” Zelda told him, “We’re safe here. Remember that, Link. You are safe.”
Link didn’t sign anything. He couldn’t think of a proper response. Silence was his best option. Zelda, recognizing his choice, just nodded and stood up.
“Come on, let’s get you your teddy,” She said, holding her hand out to him. He looked away but took it. They walked to the storage area under the stairs and Zelda took out Link’s teddy bear. She gave it to him and helped him take off his armor pieces until he was left in just his tunic and pants. She walked with him back into the kitchen and sat him down at the small table they had.
“Alright, now, you just wait here and Mama is gonna make you some breakfast,” Zelda told him, brushing some hair from his face.
Link sat at the table with Teddy in his lap as he waited for Zelda. He had very strong patience from being a knight so he was fine just waiting.
A couple of minutes later, Zelda placed two plates of fried egg and rice on the table as well as 3 pills for Link. He had to take medication to help with the anxiety and chronic pain. She sat down across from him and poured some milk into his cup with handles on the sides. As they started eating, Zelda decided to strike up a conversation
“What are your plans for today, Link?” She asked.
‘Go to Purah’s with you,’ He signed.
“Alright, but you leave your sword and shield here,” She told him.
‘But how will I protect us?’
“You won’t need to. Hateno has guards.” She declared. She saw his hands move into the shape of another “but”, however, she immediately shut it down.
“You are not bringing any weapons and that is final,” She said, clearing the plates when they finished eating. Link pouted but didn’t say anything back.
After taking his medicine and grabbing a couple things to entertain himself while at the lab (such as a couple wooden Montessori toys, figures, and a sketchbook with crayons) he and Zelda left the house to begin their small trek to the Hateno lab up the hill. As they walked, Link made sure he was behind Zelda at all times in case anyone were to attack them from behind. Zelda knew how badly he wanted to protect her so she just let him walk behind.
“Morning, Zelda! Heading to the lab today?” One of the farmers asked as they started walking up the hill.
“Yup, Link and I are going to continue with our research,” Zelda responded. Instead of “protecting” Zelda from behind, Link was practically hiding behind her now. When he was small, he was skeptical of everyone that wasn’t Zelda, Sidon, or Purah, even if he’s seen them before or knows them.
“Alright, you two have a good time! If you ever need more milk or pumpkins, just stop by!” The farmer said, letting them continue their walk.
When they got to the lap, Zelda knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer it. Link was still hiding behind Zelda, still worried about Purah seeing him regressed. Zelda scratched his head for some reassurance that everything was going to be alright. Luckily it didn’t take long and Purah soon opened the door.
“Good morning, you two! Symin is out getting some more samples from inactive guardians at the moment so it’ll just be us! Unless Link wants to go out with Symin,” Purah offered. She appeared to look as though she was in her late teens, maybe a bit younger than how Link and Zelda looked.
“Hey, Purah! I see you’re getting closer to returning to your normal self again! But no, Link won’t be going out with Symin today. He’s a bit too small right now,” Zelda explained, ruffling Link’s hair a little. Link’s face burned red, a bit embarrassed.
“Aww, little Link is feeling small~ Don’t worry princess, he can hang out with us while we work. I’ll just have to baby proof the area a bit,” Purah promised. Link whined. He wasn’t a baby! He didn’t need to have the place be baby proofed! But he didn’t feel like arguing so he stepped inside, about to have some little time with his Mama and auntie.

BOTW little Link headcanons!
Most of the headcanons are the same but some things changed.
-Link regresses from 1-4 due to stress.
-His caregivers are Zelda, Mipha, Sidon, and Purah will babysit every now and then
-From my fic "Blood Moon" on my non-agere account, Link grew up with a toxic mindset for masculinity. His father always told him that if he wanted to be a knight and a man no less, he'd have to stop acting sensitive and childish. So when he first started regressing, he didnt know what was happening to him and tried to hide it. Eventually, Zelda found out and tried to get him to accept it.
-Link's dad was a Knight and not around a lot so Link had a very independent childhood. Zelda helped him realize how unhealthy it was and how it probably lead to his involuntary regressions.
-Link was very scared of the Champions finding out about his regression. Most of them were really supportive though! Everyone but Revali knows because he's bound to rat on Link to the king to get him demoted.
-He's mainly an involuntary regressor. Rarely will he ever regress voluntarily.
-Sidon became Link's caregiver during and after botw. He's usually his caregiver when Link regresses more older, so about 3-4.
-He really started regressing a lot after defeating calamity ganon. Zelda became a very sweet caregiver for him and they built him a littlespace nook under the stairs of their house.
-Link also attended Zelda's school since he didnt get a very good education since he went straight to knight school at 14.
-I'd say the padded regression headcanon is the same as Sky!Link's. Only uses pull-up every now and then and usually at night.
-He loves milk as it reminds him a lot of his childhood.
-Zelda makes him a bunch of cool ancient type of toys as she loves making them.

Bad Day, Good Night
Summary: Pre-Botw, Link has a bad day and regresses. Zelda makes sure the rest of his day ends good.
Link was acting strange, Zelda realized. It was supper time and all the Champions and the King were sitting at the long table in the dining room, eating their dinner. It was pretty quiet for the most part like it always was. Zelda hated that. She wished that she could have normal dinners where people socialized and got to talk about their day, not just eat with quiet whispers.
However, during dinner, Link looked a little off. He sat slouched in his chair and poked at his food, not really eating it. Usually, the boy was very excited for supper. That’s when he got to sit down to have a meal. He also loved trying and eating food. It was his favorite time of the day. So it definitely concerned Zelda when he barely touched his food.
“Link? Are you doing alright?” She decided to ask. All the champions suddenly glanced over to him. Link looked up from his plate and saw everyone’s stares. For some reason, it made him want to cry. He already was having a horrible day, getting the attention all on him made it so much worse.
But Link knew he couldn’t say anything back or he’d start sobbing. So instead, he nodded his head and ate a spoonful of his soup. However, he could feel everyone staring at him still. He heard Revali whispering something to Daruk but couldn’t make out what he was saying. He doubted it was anything nice.
Mipha looked at him with a concerned face. She was always worried about him. Whether it was when he was injured, or was just having a bad time. She cared about him. But right now, the care felt too overwhelming. Link was feeling more like he was being judged than anything.
Eventually, he couldn't take it anymore. The whispering, the concerned looks, the slurping of soup and crunch of salad. The feeling he hated, dreaded, even, started to creep back up. It was the feeling of vulnerability. He knew what this meant. He was starting to regress. All he knew now was that he needed to get out of there. Link shot up from his seat and ran out of the room and to his chambers.
“Link!” Zelda yelled after him but he was already gone. She cursed herself for not recognizing that he was overwhelmed.
“He looked like he was about to cry…” Mipha said softly.
“He’s a champion, he shouldn’t be crying over nothing,” Revali scoffed.
“Shut up, Bird brain. Being a champion is stressful,” Urbosa said to him.
Zelda couldn’t find it in her heart to sit back down and finish eating. Something was wrong with Link and she was going to find out what it was.
“I’m going to see if he’s alright. Continue eating without me,” Zelda pushed her chair in and began walking out of the dining room. Her father gave a look of disapproval, but she didn’t care. She needed to make sure Link was okay.
Zelda made her way out of the dining room and to the hall where everyone’s quarters were. She saw that Link’s door was cracked open, so she concluded that he must be in there. Slowly, she approached the door and gave it a little knock.
“Link? Is it alright if I come in?” She asked. However, she got no answer.
“I’m coming in, okay?”
Slowly, she pushed open the door. The knight’s bedroom was dark, save for the light from the sunset leaking in from the big windows. In the middle of the room was Link’s large bed. The headboard was up against the wall and the canopy draped ever so slightly over the bed. On top of the mattress was Link, curled up in a ball and quietly sobbing.
Zelda closed the door behind her and walked over. She sat down next to him. Link could feel the dip in the mattress as she sat. He could smell her perfume and shampoo. It was a comforting scent.
“Can I hug you?” The princess asked. The knight nodded.
Zelda scooted a bit closer and wrapped her arms around him. Link leaned into her warm grasp. He melted in her arms. The way she embraced him made him feel so small. His mindset started to fully drop. It was going down a deep hole until he landed somewhere between 2 and 3. He nuzzled his face into Zelda’s shoulder and sniffled as his cries started to soften. Soon, his sobs turned into sniffles and he was feeling a lot better than before.
Zelda noticed he was feeling better and pulled away from the hug. She noticed some tears still leaking out so she carefully cupped his cheeks and wiped them away.
“How are you feeling, Link?” She asked. Link held his hands up and far apart before moving them close together, signing the word ‘small’.
“Ah, I see. Do you know why you’ve regressed?” She questioned.
‘Bad day’ Link signed.
“I’m sorry, baby boy. Mama will make it better, okay? You can spend the rest of the evening with me and you can be as small as you want,” She offered. Link smiled and nodded. Zelda got up from her spot on the bed and stretched a little.
“Alright, where’s all your little stuff?” She asked, looking around. Link pointed to his closet.
Zelda smiled and walked over to it and opened the doors. There was a box underneath his champion tunics that had a small note on it. It read “Link’s private stuff, stay out!”. She brought it out and showed it to him to make sure it was the right one. He nodded so she sat it down and opened it. Inside, there was a pacifier, a couple crayons and paper, a teddy bear, a sippy cup, and a few pull-ups. She took out the pacifier and the teddy bear and handed them to him. Link put the pacifier in his mouth and sucked on it happily while hugging the stuffed animal. Zelda giggled at how cute her “strongest knight” was.
“Alrighty, my Little Knight. Before you get to have play time, you have to eat something for dinner first,” Zelda said. Link pouted.
“It won’t take long, don’t worry,” Zelda opened the door a little bit and peaked out, seeing if there were any maids nearby. She spotted one and called her over, asking if she could bring a glass of milk to Link’s chambers. The maid nodded and went to go grab it.
Zelda stepped back inside and saw that Link had already started wandering around the room, trying to entertain himself. He went over to his desk/work table and found some paper. However, next to the paper was his whittling knife. While he was big, he was working on making some wooden toys but hadn't finished any yet. Link wondered if he could still make them now. So he grabbed the knife and the half-finished wooden korok toy and sat on the floor. Immediately, Zelda ran over to him and took the knife away.
“Link, no playing with sharp objects when you're small, you know this,” She set the knife back on the desk and picked him up. Although Zelda didn’t look like it, she could actually lift quite a lot. Link pouted when he was put down on the bed.
There was a sudden knock at the door and Zelda knew that must be Link’s dinner. She cracked open the door where the maid stood with the glass of warm milk. She handed it to Zelda, who accepted it gratefully.
She stepped back inside the room and grabbed Link’s sippy cup. She made sure it was clean before pouring the milk into it and screwing on the cap. She smiled and handed it to Link, who took it and started drinking. He took a couple sips before putting it down.
‘Can I draw now?’ He signed.
“Not yet, Sweetheart. You need to finish your sippy cup before you can do anything,” Zelda told him. He whined but picked the sippy cup back up and drank the rest of the milk.
“Good job, Little one,” Zelda ruffled his hair a little. He smiled and hugged her.
The rest of the evening, Zelda spent her time in Link’s room, helping him draw, giving him lots of cuddles, and reading bedtime stories with him. She wanted to make sure that this day had a good ending for him.
