Ling's heard plenty about the new King Greed's unorthodox manner of ruling Xerxes. Such a prosperous nation, the heart of alchemical advancement, carries the answer to his own clan's plights back home, if he can get his hands on it. And the way to that is simple: He just needs to earn the King and much-beloved Queen's favor.

Or so he thought. There is no Queen of Xerxes.

Such a woman, the King chuckled at Ling's thinly-veiled question, eerie violet eyes glittering, does not exist.

And yet, the locals speak of her. The palace staff whisper fondly in the halls. Every wing of the palace runs like a well-oiled machine with eyes and ears everywhere, all as the King lazes about and his favored golden-haired consort snorts at his side like he shares in on the joke.

Such a woman does not exist.

And yet, Ling thinks—observing the Golden Consort for days to follow: the smiles that follow him in the halls; those sharp, luminous eyes hidden under a coy grin.

Such a man might.

Let's be crystal clear. Queerbaiting is real. But it occurs when the creators intentionally hint at a queer relationship to lure in a queer audience to give them money, but never actually follow through on their heavy-handed implications of a queer relationship. Queerbaiting does not occur when the creator has been transparent from the very beginning that Malevolent is about friendship and platonic love, meant to work through the toxic masculinity they've lived throughout their entire life, and to express healthy platonic love (and sometimes unhealthy love) between two male-presenting characters. It is not queerbaiting when they emphatically tell each other that they love each other, because love isn't exclusively romantic, and while it is absolutely okay for people to ship them (and something that the creator is totally FINE with, btw), it is not okay to accuse the creator of lying about their relationship when he's been clear about it from the very beginning.

Friendship and platonic love is just as meaningful as romantic love and that's the whole point of Malevolent.

ok so i watched banana fish in order to traumatize myself and im half way through. i havnt cried or been traumatized yet lol. what i wanted to talk about though is how similar ashes childhood is to my moms bc its crazy how alike they are.

first off my mom was raped as a kid—often. after that she told someone and was essentially kicked of to a group home. she was probably around 13 when this happend but she was raped much younger. after that she joined a gang were she basically had to do sex work to have a place to stay. she also had to be a stripper at 16-17. she has never killed anyone but the fact that the show is so similar is scary.

on a side note does anyone have REALLY dark tv/podcast/media recommendations. i prefer animated but if not whatever. idc the ratings or trigger warnings. i want a show that actually makes me cry keep in mind i dont cry at anything most the time.
