Life
Ending
Beginning
When I designed the final bathhouse, I was clear that it would be an experience-based space, which would be different from a bathhouse in the usual sense; I would see the progression of the bathhouse as a short-term exploration of life's changes, and the space would remain dark, with the only light appearing at the end of the bath and the entrance. The hole in the middle of the bath symbolises the circle in Chinese culture (the circle in Chinese culture means the end and the beginning), while the pool represents the symbol of the mother's belly. When one follows the shimmering light to the pool and ends up lying in it in the dimness, it is like returning to the form in which we started; in the end, everything returns to nothingness. This process is also leading us to think, allowing the people in this to contemplate the process of life and the meaning of existence.

Ideas of wall
Some  interior drawings of my design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are some of my thoughts on the final design of the wall. I was thinking about how to direct people to the pool at different intensities of light. I came up with the idea of combining the change in texture of the wall with the change in light, where the wall would take on a different texture with the change in light in different light conditions. It also acts as a guide. Because in my initial model I only considered the effect of the change in light, I only started with the visual and ignored the other senses. After discussing this with Yana and Polina, I thought it would be interesting to change the texture and form of the walls.

I used rhino to create different surfaces in order to experiment with what textures would suit my environment, and for the surfaces I referred to my previous drawings of 'wet' and 'broken', as I felt that these two could be combined into my wall design. In the end I chose three that could be joined together and fit my design concept and 3D printed them as prototypes.

Combined with my artist model, Tadao Ando's use of light, I found that combining light with different textures would make for an interesting scene. I intend to divide the walls of the bathhouse into three sections, which will have different textures and touches, and extend from the entrance to the pool. For the textures of the walls I have referenced the changes in the flow of the water, from a slight rise and fall at the beginning to a strong rise and fall in the middle and a subsiding spread at the end.

Conceptual Statement
When I was designing the bathhouse, its prototype appeared in my mind, it will be a space with only light and dark and water, this is still a semi-open and single space. It only exists in two colours, black and white, light and dark is the basis for changing it. I used the way of digging holes in the walls to let the light enter the space in this way, instead of opening a big hole, in order to allow the area in a darker situation, let people follow the only light to think, think about what is invisible and become water. The hole in the middle symbolizes the circle in Chinese culture (the circle in Chinese culture has the meaning of completion and beginning point), and the single pool corresponding to it represents the mother's stomach. When people follow the light to the pool and finally lie in the pool in the dim environment, it is like returning to the form we started with, and this process is also guiding us to return to the round point and become like water that can change at will.

Model Making --  3.0
I had the inspiration for the new bathhouse and realized it out. After exploring more possibilities of my model with Yana, I changed the layout of the space to get a new space. In the process of making the model, I focused more on the experience with one person, and then added this new pool for one person. The addition of this separate pool helped me to reinforce the main subject, which is [be water and fromless], and to increase this sense of isolation through the partition at the entrance. And I also adjusted the shape and size of the light-transmitting holes, hoping to make the overall light and darkness a different treatment at first, so that the overall environment of the bathhouse is more varied.

Material -- Ideas
I tried to use 3D printing to achieve the ripples of water and got good results. If this effect can be combined with my final model, it should help me to make the overall space more close to the design concept of fromless and be water. The rippled surface is combined with the change of light and dark.
