Asteroids Elevator Pitch
Asteroids is a fairly simple style of game but it's one of the precursors to the wildly popular bullet hell genre. I'd like to give my own spin on this classic game. In Asteroids you pilot a ship and try to keep it alive as long as possible. There are two mains ways of doing this. Guiding the ship using the simple controls out of the way of danger (asteroids and aliens) or you can shoot the dangerous objects t destroy them. What if instead of shooting the asteroids, you sent them bouncing around the screen like pool balls on a pool table? You could direct asteroids into each other simultaneously smashing them up but also creating a dangerous field of rocks ricocheting across the screen. So how do we do this?
Instead of a gun i suggest that there is a small shield that rotates around the ship. The shield covers about a quarter of the ship and must control its position with the 'A' and 'D' keys (clockwise rotation and anticolckwise rotation respectively). The ship would be directed using the arrow keys like in the classic game. It would be like if you combined asteroids with atari breakout.

Platformer Elevator Pitch
So to get us into the mindset of creating a simple platformer they want us to create a short elevator pitch. Since I don't necessarily have to create this I'm going to ignore my own limitations and the limitations of gdevelop (which there are many T-T). Though I'll still keep it simple. Title: Jump Quest
Pitch: An RPG platformer. Large metroidvania style map with a number of different movement options (jump, wall jump, double jump, slide, etc). You travel across the map with your team of 4 (3 follow behind the player character) fighting monsters and completing quests. Combat is real time and simple so as not to detract from the platforming movement. Characters can level up and each have uniquw movement/combat abilities
I'd liken it to Hollow Knight but the story, characters and combat take more from JRPGS rather then metroidvania style games.
Tumblr media
Three unique selling points:
RPG Platformer
Engaging story
Fun movement
Student contact info:
So how do you think I went? Honestly I think the hardest thing is conveying ideas in my head into words. Like I want a real time simple combat system which is reminiscent of JRPGs even though they are traditionally turn based. Like I can see it in my head but It's really hard to put it into something understandable. Anyway I hope the idea is interesting and unique.

Blog Setup
Hi I'm James. I'm a 3rd year IT student with an interest in web and games development. I'm now into my second week of IGB220 and as a requirement of the subject I have created this Tumblr blog to document my work this semester.
This in itself has been an interesting process since I've never used this site before. Over my time this semester I'll have to take the time to get more familiar with all the features, the html editing looks especially interesting. Currently everything has the potential to change as I get more experienced included the formating of my posts. My profile and background are also both placeholders. My profile is my LinkedIn profile (which is a picture from a wedding) and the background is a picture of my poor taped together laptop from first year.
Tumblr media
What a tragic sight. Anyway I'm not entirely sure what this whole process is like or how it will all pan out but I guess we'll just see how it all goes. Maybe if I do a good enough job I could link this to my portfolio. So, welcome to my blog. I'll try to post more then the bare minimum to help get the hang of all this. My next being the review of the 53 pages of reading I'm required to do. Not really looking forward to that, you'll hear what I think about it all in my next post.
