i hate confrontation so much that i couldn’t tell my coworker that jane austen did not, in fact, write bridgerton
#i just smiled and said oh right yes of course#this was after me discussing how i’d finally read mansfield park#jane austen

i thought fanny had a nightmare about accepting henry crawford’s proposal. but no, she actually accepted his proposal and changed her mind the next morning????? HELLO?????? fanny price is a lady who, yes is quiet, but knows her own beliefs and principles and desires. my canon fanny price would never accept a proposal on a whim when she knew it was never what she truly wanted.
the changes they made in mansfield park (1999) were fucked up
#seriously why did Any Of That happen#mansfield park (1999)#mansfield park#austen#fanny price#henry crawford

no but the way austen says at the end of mansfield park that fanny would’ve (probably) married henry crawford if he just kept doing what he was doing. like. we could’ve had it all.
#i’m not going to harp on about the cousin thing because at some point you have to accept that it was early 19th century and move on#but like when she had the option to NOT marry her cousin#like okay#i don’t dislike edmund#he’s a little bit tepid and doesn’t treat fanny as well as fanny thinks he treats her#oh well#mansfield park#edmund bertram#fanny price

finished mansfield park this morning, meaning i have thus finished all of austen’s complete novels (sad). my current ranking as it stands:
1. pride and prejudice
2. sense and sensibility
3. persuasion
4. emma
5. mansfield park
6. northanger abbey
#i’ve read mansfield park and northanger abbey only once#the rest have had a few rereads#i kind of hate northanger abbey#but i did deeply enjoy mansfield park#so i’m ranking them now as my current opinion stands#just to see if upon future rereads things could change…….#jane austen#pride and prejudice#sense and sensibility#persuasion#emma#mansfield park#northanger abbey#literature
