"what use is it to be an illustrator of children's books when the world has sentenced the children of your country to the death penalty, to vanish, to genocide?"
some of baraa's illustrations:
this is an illustration for youssef, whose mother is remembered running desperately into the hospital asking if anyone had seen a "small white boy with beautiful curly hair, his name is youssef," a description which was remembered by millions when she finally identified his body:
this illustration is for young omar, who was hugging his little brother and teaching him how to repeat the shahada after him (a prayer spoken by muslims before their death) as he lay on his hospital bed:
"we want a new year that doesn't kill us or our children, we want it a year without blood, without screaming, without pain, we want a new attempt to get our lives back, or something that resembled our life, even if life is a lie we still cling to it, return life to us—a new year's card unlike any other year:"
Imagine trying to sleep, while being forced to listen to a loud, unavoidable noise. A noise that heralds danger, a danger that has already hurt someone you care about. A danger you can do nothing to protect yourself and your love ones from. This is what Mohammed Iwais has to go through every night.
Mohammed Iwais @mohdiwais has spent months trying to raise money so he and his family in Gaza may evacuate to safety. Now, he is struggling to gain connection to the internet, making this goal even harder for him.
Without a good internet connection, he struggles to keep in contact with people through Tumblr, or to make posts to raise funds for his campaign.
On top of all this, Mohammed has to deal with the constant sound of quadcopters nearby him. This sound is an extremely loud droning noise, which causes fear and stress, and makes any kind of sleep or rest extremely difficult. One of Mohammed's sisters was hit by a quadcopter bullet several months ago, and is struggling to heal while being trapped in Gaza without proper medical treatment.
Right now, the Iwais family's campaign is close to completion. They only need ~ $3.1k USD to reach their goal. However, this certainly doesn't mean that it is acceptable for you to stop caring, or for donations to slow down. Mohammed and his family need your help to be able to evacuate!
Please, help them finally reach their goal. If you are not able to donate right now, please help share their campaign.
i and many others have been relentlessly promoting siraj @siraj2024's fundraiser for the past two months, but recently we've been met with a wave of comments claiming there is some issue with the website. so now i need to know:
no button for 'i didnt donate/show results'. if you want to vote, donate to siraj. even $5 usd is enough.

My name is Muhammad Ibrahim. I work as a high school teacher. I am a strong father from Gaza. I have three princesses from my children. I mentioned that I am strong because I try to provide happiness and protection for my family in the midst of sadness and death, and I am looking to shed light in the darkness. I am strong. I do not want to show weakness to my children, but to be honest I have no idea how strong I can pretend to be. I'm not strong. I'm sad, broken, devastated, and terrified at the thought of losing someone in my family.
Since the first hour of October, we have been displaced 6 times. It is a terrifying thing. When you see the planes dropping leaflets on us asking us to evacuate the area, you are asked to evacuate within a specific time. At this time, you are unable to think about what you want to do, and where we will go. While preparing the necessary bags, shells and missiles are raining down on us. Bullets from airplanes. At this moment, you can only escape and save your life and the lives of your children
After more than 300 days of resisting the heinous genocide, my family and I are working to support ourselves through community relief and mutual assistance efforts that stopped three months ago due to the occupation taking control and occupying the city of Rafah.
With the constant risk of death due to malnutrition, dehydration and pollution, diseases are increasing day by day. Like all residents of Gaza, we depend on donations to purchase the goods and services necessary to keep us alive, heal and recover.
One dollar could make a difference in my life. Your skip could cost us a life
Let me tell you about living in the camp, it is like a prison, and even worse, there is no fresh air to breathe, no clean water for daily use and of course to drink, no electricity and no healthy food, only infectious diseases, skin rashes, insects and scorpions.
There is no privacy as the tents are close together, and no quiet, only shelters between you and your neighbors. I stand in long lines under the hot sun for water, for bread, for hospice (food distributed to the displaced in the camp) and even for bathrooms. Public.
More than 300 days of targeted attacks and genocidal tactics have deliberately destroyed life's infrastructure: energy sources, desalination plants, bakeries, factories, hospitals, schools, sewage systems, roads, farmland, homes, my home, and my workplace. Everything has already become a terrifying ghost town
The Gaza Strip has become an uninhabitable biological zone, due to tens of thousands of decaying martyrs who are still crushed under the rubble. The beach is full of sewage and pollution, the health care system has been destroyed, and facilities and agricultural lands have been bombed. We are in a miserable situation, with the outbreak of hepatitis. Polio and other diseases, famine, pollution and constant bombing
My three children, my wife, my mother, and my father need care, and because I am the only person in the family who goes to get water and food, which is considered a huge burden on me, especially since there is no safe place there. I have always been exposed to the risk of death due to sudden bombing and miraculously survived. Therefore, my family and I want to leave Gaza. So that I can protect my children and save our lives, as they need to study, health care, and start a decent life. They have the right to live like all the children of this world, so I want your help in donating so that I can help my family. Since each person needs $5,000 to go out, I need a large amount to be able to travel, so I hope to reach the amount as quickly as possible so that I can get the children back to playing as they used to while studying
A call for help for Aseel and my family in Gaza!!! All thanks and gratitude for your humanitarian stances with us, and we
assistance in this difficult time. Tenth months of displacement and famine have exacerbated our suffering and difficulties beyond belief. We used all the words of sadness and sorrow to describe the situation we had reached, but such words were not enough. The scale of the tragedy and suffering is much greater than what you may have seen or seen on several social media
Dear Friends You can support my family by either donating or sharing my campaign link with others so that the goal is reached sooner Please help us. We are very tired and no one is looking at us. Please help us. If you canno .donate, publish the account
Help us, we need you to spread our story to the world
My name is Ali Ayad, and I come from the Shujaiya neighborhood in Gaza, a region destroyed by war. My wife, Hanan, and I share a dream of providing a safe and peaceful environment for our son, Jude, to grow and thrive. Unfortunately, the war has rendered Gaza uninhabitable, lacking basic necessities like healthcare, education, shelter, and employment opportunities.
Our family has endured immense trauma, displacement, and loss. Our young son has witnessed unimaginable experiences, including airstrikes, bombings, and the destruction of our home. Despite our home being targeted multiple times, we remain determined in our quest for a better life. The most recent bombardment was particularly devastating, occurring after the latest invasion of Shujaiya, our area. This fundraising campaign serves as a beacon of hope for a better life, free from the atrocities we have faced.
I want to express my gratitude to those who have supported us thus far. However, our situation has taken a dire turn. The ongoing genocide has now reached the Rafah area, and we urgently need your help to evacuate our remaining family members (3 individuals).
Your continued support is crucial in helping us reach safety as quickly as possible. Any contribution will bring us closer to a brighter future, free from the chains of war.
Ali, Hanan, and their son Jude are fighting to survive in Ghazza. Their home was destroyed, and they now live in horrible conditions. Jude has been traumatized by the bombings and other horrors of this genocide, and they all live without basic nessities.
In order to evacuate their remaining family and survive this hellish scourge, this family is trying to raise $60,000 CAD. Currently, they've only raised $1,820 CAD.
Everyone, please help them. Donate if you can and share their campaign. Anything you can contribute will help them survive.
