Post 6 - The Chaotic Combo

Quadruple whammy! Today, we talk about the new Chaotic Combo: Wilder Forester (Wild), Pascal Wu (Punchy), Burdine Brook (Bubbles) & Angelica Santos (Angelica), the Intrepid Tetrad!

If you're wondering where Magi-Chan is, I have a separate post about him here.

The Intrepid Tetrad. Looking at them, you wouldn't expect them to get along so well, considering how different they are in every way. But it seems fate had other ideas, given the life-changing events in Quinnchester lately. The gang is made up of four, all from differing backgrounds. - Wilder Forester, the leader of the clan, is the type of guy to give you a very specific answer to the most basic of questions; his favourite colour is mindaro and his favourite animal is the Andean mountain cat. He relishes the thrill of the unknown, and has made it his goal to explore every last nook and cranny of the town. Wilder's friends know him to be a headstrong but compassionate fellow, but deep down, he longs to have a family to share his adventures with. - Pascal Wu, real name Wu Jianfeng (武剑锋, Wǔ Jiànfēng) migrated with his family to Quinnchester from China as a baby. Fascinated with the many styles of combat in his home country, he trained in a variety of martial arts throughout his childhood and teen years, growing into a semi-popular teacher of Wing Chun. Despite his short-temper and occasional bouts of scatterbrainedness, Pascal is big-hearted and selfless, willingly the brawn of the tetrad. (also he may have gotten his nickname from Tangled) - Burdine Brook, the assigned beauty of the bunch, is a humble woman. Though she enjoys a successful career as a psychologist, she finds happiness in the simpler things in life. Her favourite activity is fishing at the creek in her little wooden boat, Swan, and selling her catches at the local market. Her gentle nature and genuine passion for her job and hobbies has earned Burdine a home in the hearts of many. But of course, she isn't as much of a pushover as her reputation would suggest... - Angelica Santos, level-headed and wise, grew up in a religious family with the goal of bringing happiness to the world, one small step at a time. She attended a surprisingly pleasant faith school, where she was taught to be strong and love unconditionally; the polar opposite of her very bigoted parents. Even then, Angelica never followed their example, and continues to fulfill her goal to this day. And yet, as incompatible as they might be with each-other, the Intrepid Tetrad have become inseparable, and will do everything in their power to protect Quinnchester.

More name meanings for ya! Forester roughly means "someone in charge of a forest". Wu comes from 武 (wǔ), which has several meanings related to warriorship, while Jianfeng could translate to "pointed edge of a sword". Brook is a surname based on the landform, and Santos is Spanish and Portuguese for saint.

Powers

It wouldn't be Sonichu if the characters didn't have powers, would it?

Sonny, like his regular counterpart, can run as fast as Sonic. He can also strike his foes with lightning.

Rosemary can summon giant flowers from the ground to trap her adversaries and buy her time while they claw their way out.

As mentioned in Magnus' post, he has clairvoyance and can cause transmutation.

Wilder is much more athletic and flexible, and can summon vines to use as grappling hooks.

Pascal's strength has increased, and he's capable of creating fire by rubbing his hands.

Burdine can control water, and uses a siren song to pacify her enemies

Angelica, obviously, can fly. She's also able to form gusts of wind by rolling her hands.

SONICHU SALVAGED

Post 5 - Chris Chan

Almost March, and everything's already going to crap. Will we make it out alive? Only time will tell! In the meantime, let me introduce you to Sonichu Salvaged's version of Chris Chan: Chandler Christian!

I don't know why, but I've been having a lot of trouble putting my thoughts into sentences recently. So this time around, I'm going to do a short, simple bullet point list. Hope that's okay. ☺

Also, if you're wondering why I'm portraying Chris the way I am, check out the Sub-Plot section of Post 4.

daughter of the former Quinnchester mayor (Francis Christian) and his wife (Annabella Westbrook)

dislikes homosexuality due to bullying over a very close friendship with a boy

began identifying as trans-fem as an adult, still hates the gay

inherited the mayor role from her father - no-one knows how she got it, but the leading theory is nepotism

has tried and failed to ban the gay from Quinnchester multiple times

all this because she refuses to accept her own bisexuality

spends most of her time locked in the break room doing who-knows-what, so her staff have to handle most of her duties

even though Pokémon and Sonic exist in this world, she's still dreaming of something new and exciting

envious af - the moment she sees Sonny's new form, she's like "I wanna be that too!"

still a hopeless romantic on a love quest

as mentioned in post 4, she's the centre of a subplot where Magnus guides her in self-improvement

Name should be obvious, it's literally Christian (Chris' dead name, Christine isn't a surname unfortunately) and Chandler reversed. Francis and Annabella come from her parents' middle names (Franklin and Anne).

"Sonichu" Species Name

I'm currently trying to come up with ideas for names for Sonny/Rosemary/Magnus' species to replace Sonichu and Rosechu. My initial idea was "Pokémen" but it sounds way too similar to Pokémon already. I also had "Hedgemen" (hedgehog + men) in mind, but it doesn't sound right.

If I can't come up with anything good, I'll probably just stick to using Sonichu and Rosechu.

Hopefully it won't be too long before I upload the next part. I'm hoping to talk about the new and improved Chaotic Combo! Anyway, thank you again for reading! As always, critiques and suggestions are very much appreciated. Adeus! ♡♡♡

SONICHU SALVAGED

Post 4 - Magi-Chan

Hear me out here. Magi-Chan always gave me the vibe of "if this guy was a humanoid in a cartoon, he'd probably be attractive", so that's what I based the design around. Might have gone a little overboard, but... I am very gay.

Anyway, let's talk about Magnus Shan, shall we?

Who would you call the most mysterious person in the world? John Zegrus? Tara Gilesbie? Jack the Ripper? To that, I answer; none of them compare to Magnus Shan. A creature born in a distant future, where xenophobia ran rampant. He was considered a freak of nature, being the only one of his kind, and his life would be taken at the tender age of two. Elsewhere in the past, a powerful guardian aims to fulfil a prophecy that would allow Magnus' species to thrive. Entrusting the help of one Silver the Hedgehog, he brought Magnus to the past and raised him as his own. The infant grew up with powers bestowed upon him by his new father; not only clairvoyance, but the ability to cause transmutation. Analytical, reserved and calm under pressure, Magnus waits in the shadows until after the fateful collision to make himself known to humankind. His aim is to guide Sonny and Rosemary through their new lives, and solely that - unless a certain pathetic mayor comes knocking.

I couldn't find a good surname for Magnus this time round, so I gave him one that sounds like Chan. But then I looked up the etymology, and Shan comes from the Chinese character 單 (shàn/dān), meaning solitary. This reminds me of Magi-Chan's canonical childhood, raised in seclusion by a mentor he never met face-to-face.

And just to confirm, Mewtwo is not Magnus' mentor here.

Sub-Plot

Now, we get to the subplot. This is certainly going to be a questionable choice, but this is the price I pay for wanting to stray from the path.

Magnus is going to assist the character based on Christine in a journey to betterment. Consider this the good ending Chris could've had if she got the help she needs. Something like a road to redemption.

Because getting worked up about changes in kid's TV and hitting a game store owner with a car because you got banned certainly aren't well-adjusted adult things to do. Much less the... mother scenario.

So here's the plan. Chris' character almost commits a crime reminiscent of a real life incident. Magnus forces Chris out of it, and ensures that she learns from it. Over time, Chris grows as a person, allowing herself to become the mayor that Quinnchester's townsfolk deserve.

Post 3 - Rosechu

Hello again! The Ultimate Procrastinator is proud to present the third installment of Sonichu Salvaged. Today, we're covering the upgraded Rosechu: Rosemary Felix!

Rosemary Felix lives among the outskirts of Quinnchester with her older sister, well-known Pokémon trainer Kellie. They're an average pair of siblings, but they stick together through thick and thin. Rosemary is an inquisitive sort of person, always looking for the opportunity to try new things and gain new skills. Whether that be fencing, forestry or taking care of her sister's Pokémon, Rosemary wants to experience all that life has to offer. In fact, her transformation occurred as she was learning to feed Kellie's Dragonite, David. Every morning, a kind fellow going by Sonny would jog past the house while Rosemary tended to her wallflower garden. They'd share a wave and a quick hello, then go back to what they were doing. But as luck would have it, Sonny would run by on the day after their alterations, and I'm sure you know where this goes.

Not romantically, that's for sure. So where do the children come from? I haven't figured it out yet 😐

Her name doesn't have much to talk about; Rosemary's self-explanatory and Felix is both a real surname and Kel's canonical surname. However, I did get an extra reference in with the wallflower garden.

Outfits

If you're wondering why she has two different outfits as a hybrid, I initially wanted to use Rosechu's main outfit for Rosemary, but I couldn't figure out how to make it work, so I gave her a different outfit. And by the time I did figure it out, I'd already grown attached to the initial design. So I decided, "Hey, why not make it her battle uniform?" So I did! (The golden sword is meant to be that blade she wields in Sonichu #9)

SONICHU SALVAGED

Post 2 - Sonichu

Well, humanity's fucking doomed because half of America is braindead, so I might as well do something to distract myself. So let me introduce you to the Sonichu Salvaged version of the golden star himself: Santiago "Sonny" Valiente!

Sonny, nicknamed by his coworkers, would describe himself as a "free spirit". Carefree and easygoing, this is a man you can turn to when you need a reason to get through the day. He's also a natural-born athlete, always ready to run a mile just for the heck of it. Not to say he is without his flaws; he tends to make impulsive decisions, and can sometimes be abrasive. As I mentioned in the first post, Sonny is the mayor's chief of staff. He works alongside Allison Amber (the secretary) and Hector Iglesias (the deputy mayor, based on Heather Iglesias). All of them are pretty tired of their jobs, but Sonny is by far the most antsy to get out. In his spare time, Sonny likes to explore the outskirts of Quinnchester with his beloved pet, an unnamed Pikachu that he received as a gift from his family. They are an inseparable duo not only figuratively, but literally (that is, after Sonny's transformation.)

Name Explanation

To explain the name I gave Sonny, I gave myself a simple method: A, find a first name that sounds closest to the original name, and B, find a surname with a meaning relating to their character.

The closest I could find to a first name that sounds like Sonichu is Somchai, a common name in Thailand. However, I wanted them to sound like something you may have heard before, so I picked Santiago instead and nicknamed him Sonny, in honour of the Sonees and Roseys.

Meanwhile, I picked Valiente because it sounds similar to the English word of valiant, and is also the Asturian and Spanish word for brave.

SONICHU SALVAGED

Post 1 - Logo and Synopsis

Even in a world with lightning-fast hedgehogs and monsters small enough to fit in your pocket, there are some who still can't find fulfillment. This is no such story.

Sorry for the cringey opening, I just thought it was cute. But anyways, I'd like to welcome you to Sonichu Salvaged, my attempt at improving the bizarre world of Christine W. Chandler's Sonichu webcomic. Today's post will cover the general synopsis of the story I would like to tell.

My aim is to stray away from the typical plot-line of "CWCVille is a shit place and Chris is a loony tyrant and the children are wretched abominations that must be executed on sight". There's at least three adaptations with this plot, and I want to try and stand out. So here's what I have in mind:

In the quiet town of Quinnchester, England (don't ask), a sporty young man by the name of Santiago "Sonny" Valiente tires of his job as the mayor's chief of staff, instead wanting to travel the world with his Pikachu bestie. One day, tapping away on his phone, he sees a breaking news article of a monster on the attack; always a reckless fellow, Sonny takes his Pikachu and heads to the scene of the crime.

Turns out, this is another one of Sonic the Hedgehog's inter-dimensional travels. (at least, I'm assuming this is possible, I love Sonic but I don't know what's happening half the time) The blue blur found his way to Quinnchester in order to fight the monster. Sonny and Pikachu stumble upon this battle, and in a freak collide with Super Sonic, undergo a life-changing alteration.

With a great boom of Chaos Energy combined with Pikachu's inner workings, man and pokémon morph into one, and several others are transformed. Now Sonny, as well as his newfound companion Rosemary Felix, have to adjust to their new life and abilities, all the while taking down a criminal planning to overthrow the mayor.

So yeah, pretty long synopsis. Wish I was better at explaining things more concisely, but... eh.

As you can probably tell, Sonny and Rosemary are the names for Salvaged's version of Sonichu and Rosechu. I'll explain the name choices once I dedicate pages to them, as well as more story details and the subplot.
