Decided to downsize my art recently.

Doing big pieces means I have to dedicate more time

Which is never a problem until I’ve almost reached completion and become lazy lol.

Not to mention the cost of shipping.

I rather bring that pack (art pieces, stay focused lol) on the plane with me!

Looking forward to the details I’ll master with this piece.

I really made a wig out of 100% DENIM 🤯

In the beginning of this project, there were a few people I knew for sure I wanted to work with and

I never experienced a beat like this before

I was so beat to the GAWDS, stayed up beyond my bedtime because I didn’t want to wipe it off. Lololll

Ughhh

Im the type of person when I find someone good to work with, I want to work with them forever!!!!

I can’t wait until we have the opportunity to create more.

Damn, I documented the hell out of my process lololol.

Every time I go through my phone (I erased all my photos, so I only have content of my jig [jean + hair] ) I’m CHEESIN

It’s really fun to create without boundaries!

The start of something new…

I love canvas work, I do I do I do,

But I’m soooo BORED with it.

In order to keep this art thing going, I feel I have to manipulate denim in various ways, or I’ll stop caring.

In the mist of working on a canvas art piece, I came up with a solution to work smarter and not harder.

This solution led me here.

Im always amazed at my mind. I say this quite often.

Excited to see what is to come of this.

This photo shoot is one of my favs.

It was time for grad pics, and I wanted to showcase both African and African American side

My sister had just came back from Côte d'Ivoire, and brought a lot of Ankara for me.

I made this dress within days, and honestly the color combination is chef’s kiss.

I’m so glad I have this memory forever.

I love looking at past Janett, and gathering inspiration

When I say my pieces are made with 100% denim, I truly mean it! Including the background.

The background of all my portrait pieces is probably my fav thing to blindly create if you will.

I’m cutting hues of white denim/ various sizes, and gluing to the background

No pattern, no precise direction.

However, when I reach 100% completion, it’s very cool to look at.

Perhaps one day I’ll create monochromatic canvas pieces.

Every time I complete a portrait, I’m truly amazed!

I can’t believe I have this talent, and at times, I just walk around like it’s nothing lol

I should be celebrating much more!

This is my first 3ft piece.

Have I said that already?

With my African background, I really wanted it to show throughout my work.

Why not start with implementing African textiles?

So is it Ankara on Denim? Or Denim on Ankara?

Also posting pics of myself because I see tons of videos of elderly saying to photograph yourself often, and I don’t do it often enough.
